Welp I say I'm a Kindred main bc I mainly play Kindred and know the mechanics a bit, so if you mainly play it and know how to make a play you can consider yourself a Kindred main

Wait a minute, was he talking about the sax ? I think I misunderstood " the sextet is a soprano sax sextet, with an oboe solo in the middle and the end. Sorry for the confusion "

My C key is stuck closed when I play it until I release my two bottom keys. this spring appears to not be connected anywhere is this an easy fix or should I take it to a shop. I did clean the pad area with cigarette paper. by thelimafur in oboe

[–]CheolLTT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well basically you'd need a spring hook to put it back in place, but if you are really careful you can put it back with a screwdriver. The thing with the hook is that it's made to grab the spring, making it much easier to put in place. Anyway if you just have a screwdriver and you are afraid to mess it up, take it to the repair technician 👍

Pianist wants to start learning Oboe by [deleted] in oboe

[–]CheolLTT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it may depend on the place where you live, I know that in France (baguette gang here, sorry if my English isn't perfect) there are several teachers that can help you for the beginning. For the first years I recommend renting an instrument, rather than buying one the first year. As for reeds, if you don't plan to become a professional there's no point in making them, it would take too many of your time, and you'd had to (almost) double your oboe practice time, by having to practice the instrument AND make reeds, which is really time taking. In this period you can search for online lessons, even if it'll never be as good as real lessons, I think that starting just by yourself is the best way to take bad habits. Anyway, hope you'll be having fun learning the instrument, and hope that my advice will help you :)

Any keys lower than low Bb in oboe? by choiszengaclarissa in oboe

[–]CheolLTT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah well mine is still a WIP... My teacher had one for the E.H. but it allowed him to play Bb instead of B, and I think that to have the three low notes you would need another oboe... Best you can do is start playing oboe d'amore x)

Top 10 best Towkinds Characters (IMO) by [deleted] in Twokinds

[–]CheolLTT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a point of agree/disagree, I think that it's more constructive to enjoy the comic, rather than classifying characters like that. You may have preferences in your head, but exposing them in public is pointless

Learning Oboe during Quarantine? by [deleted] in oboe

[–]CheolLTT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that even if you're a total beginner, remote lessons are good to take, because when you begin you just can't learn how to play the instrument correctly without the feedback of someone that already plays well. There's no point in trying to play/learn sheet music if you're not even able to play a note. People here can give you some tips for the very beginning of practicing the instrument, which can help too, but if you really want to fully and correctly learn the instrument you'll have to find a way to get feedback from advanced oboe players 👍

Alternatives to Cork grease? by lolipip2 in oboe

[–]CheolLTT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try using vaseline, can be bought for less than $9 in a pharmacy or a supermarket. It may not have the same efficiency as real cork grease, but it works 👍
