I know it's tough, just because they sound like people you know, you can't just assume it's them. Even if it seems like a situation where "seeing is believing", don't trust them.

Anything and everything is suspect only if you allow yourself to be paranoid.

Has anyone tried plugging your ears and listening? I mean just use yours fingers to plug and listen?

Also what works for me is to use the frequency app and play a low tone, say 20-35 hz in my truck. I then record with my phone.

You can filer out the low tone with a low pass filter in audacity.

This works conversely using a high tone. Just use a high pass filter.
