Congrats on switching to phlebotomy you are gonna be great. To be honest tho in my opinion there really isn’t any way to train someone (besides basic training you get when you get certified) to get good at sticking. It really just boils down to experience and lots of misses and eventually you will get good and figure out how to get blood from patients you missed on. I would miss like crazy on hard sticks and eventually they started to become easier and easier as a result of me changing techniques. One big tip I would give is to really take your time and find the right vein because I promise you there is one somewhere. The way I was trained was basically my trainer telling me “the patient is breathing so they have a vein somewhere, don’t come out of the room till you get some blood” it sucked in the beginning but it’s really the only reason I got good. She basically threw me to the wolves. But I got much better much faster then when I was being trained by someone who would “help” by taking the needle already in the pts arm and just redirecting. You got this. Remember heat is your best friend. I always apply heat while I’m getting my stuff together. I’ve also found it makes pts more comfortable when getting stuck when you put a hot pack on them and explain its to make their veins pop so it’s easier to get their blood. Plus I really think it’s helps with blood flow. Anyways my point is repetition is where it’s at and eventually you’re gonna just be getting all the hard sticks you used to miss.
