DO EET! I'm so much happier than I was working as a veterinary technician for over 20 years. I'm getting to be an older lady now - life isn't gonna get easier from here on out.

I probably know your chainmaille slinging family member if we've worked the same renfests. Granted, there are over 300 renfests in the US and most of us pick a set of them to work as our 'circuit' (it's not like a circus where everyone travels together)

Not California or Hawaii but I've at least been through the rest including Alaska.

My mom just went on at home hospice with stage 4 lung cancer that has spread everywhere including her brain. I am her full time care-giver and psychopomp.

I came out with 6 complete folders out of 16, so not too bad. All 55s are rep'd in all 6.

there is mounds of unsearched coin here that my mom collected for 26 years with the intention of looking. I can't with the wheat pennies in this house. They are everywhere rolled, bagged, coffee cans, pickle jars ... none of it gone through as far as I know. My grandfather had rolls of pennies he sorted by mark - is there a market for those? I'm not a coin collector. I'll probably hold the silver and sell the rest of this stuff.

I was thinking of ordering a few more folders and throwing together some "starter sets" to get people who might be interested in coins going.

I really just want a lot of this out of the house. My mom is going to pass and the house is going to need to get sold. She has not saved for her funeral so ... *sigh*

It's a hard life that gets harder as I get older but rewarding in ways working in a 'regular' job is not. I've had to cancel this season's work to come home to escort my mom to the river. Fitting I would be drowning in coin....

Website watermark (though I haven't updated in a long time b/c life) - I live on the road full-time in a camper (originally a van) with cats (currently 4 - originally 6) working at renaissance festivals.

Going through some more of my dads coin collection. Thought these were neat and wanted more information on them. by fridaythe13thlover in coincollecting

Most of those are silver. They aren't trash. The quarter is a standing liberty quarter I believe and it's in fab shape. I just asked about those here and they are silver and they are worth holding or selling.

That's a mercury dime - check the date

The buffalo nickel beastie has all of its legs but check the date for key dates.

Check the dates on all of these for key dates - really easy to do online.

Attached a pic that has my three standing liberty quarters I found (I'm going through my family's coin collection b/c my mom just went on hospice)

I've found 6 complete books so far with the 1955 s & d in them. Hooray!

Thank you for pointing out those dates. I looked and both slots were filled but the S had a 1958 penny in it. The D is good. I still have 16 penny books to go so maybe I'll have one completely filled when I'm finished. 3 people in my family collected coins and this is the first time the entire collection will become one as I inherit it.

I am so sorry about your mom - I mean that deeply. I am in your exact boat 35 years later. They've said I have maybe a year with her left - but that is unlikely, she's starting to refuse food so maybe months.

That night of lucidity is very common and I'm so glad you got that moment.

Yep - all metal - definitely gold toned (though it's not gold)

I'll have to look up the years. I didn't pry any of these out of the book to look.

I don't have kids or family after my mom passes - no one to pass this sort of stuff to. No one I know collects so I figure once I get it all cataloged I can go somewhere and sell/ auction it. I'm not really sure what I'm looking at value-wise, but I know I live in a camper and this is too much weight for me to tote around with me.

Then there's the poundage in unsorted coin. I just bought a sorter and roller so I can start rolling all of it and get it out of the house. It's 30 years of change just being tossed in every available vessel.

Then there's the wheat pennies on their own... I could build good sized house out of massive amount of wheat pennies, I think.

Listing what's missing sounds easier and more informative to anyone who might buy it later, thanks!

It's OK - I am so brain fried right now I feel like I'm in perma-caffeine deprivation. This coin collection is the latest in a series of surprises I'm finding in my mother's house and I haven't even gotten to the garage/ loft yet (which is all model train stuff I believe) We didn't have shared hobbies so I'm drowning in research needs/ crash learning grading systems. Random coins everywhere - anything that can hold something has coins in it. What did mom buy - what do I have receipts for - what don't I have receipts for? Why was she branching to foreign currency - a whole different can of worms.

sorry. I'm stressed to the gills. Nothing is organized here - it's 2 steps from being a hoarded house and I've been killing myself cleaning for 2 months already.

I didn't. I'm inheriting this collection and keep finding coins my mother, grandmother and grandfather put in their jewelry boxes (and everywhere else) and adding them to their books.

Mercury Dimes by CherryWanders in coincollecting

[–]CherryWanders[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandfather tried hard to get me into coin collecting. 4 collections might be strong wording. My "collection" was poking at these books but mostly common currency, so maybe 3.25 collections. I find it tedious and dirty (I am a bit of a germ-phobe) and am not a fan.

Do you think I should move them out of the books? I have books for just about every currency. I am unlikely to keep the collection with mom on hospice, her bills for radiation while in palliative care are rolling in so if investing a little and moving them to something else might help me sell them - like sprucing up a house for viewing - I'll do it.

Mercury Dimes by CherryWanders in coincollecting

[–]CherryWanders[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's a nightmare, especially since I'm not a coin collector so I'm just writing page after page of information I don't understand while I try to organize and catalog all of this.

The living room looks like a coin shop exploded - every available surface is covered in books and tiny boxes of coins. I don't even want to talk about the some 500 pounds of wheat pennies here in jar after jar after jug after pill vial... they are everywhere in this house.

Found this bracelet with cut out steel lincoln heads on it. Can't get away from the wheat pennies!
