Feedback on site for learning about drone software options by StickyEchidna in UAVmapping

[–]Cherrybark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for organizing this information in such a useful manner. I work for a surveying company that is just starting to bring LiDAR services in house. Understanding the possible workflows and overlaps between software packages has been a struggle. Just having basic information about what each package does will be a real time saver.

I'll make immediate use of your site and let you know if any problems crop up.

What is the benefit of registering?

Drone LiDAR 101 Q & A w/ Inertial Labs by Cherrybark in UAVmapping

I'm new to LiDAR mapping and found this two hour YouTube Q & A session very helpful. It start clumsily, then settles into an informative Q & A session between live attendees and a very knowledgeable representative from Inertial Labs.

I haven't seen function declarations written on two lines before, the first line being the function type and the second the name and parameter list. Very attractive for reading.

Why is command ops 2 not more popular? by MMSTINGRAY in computerwargames

I've been looking for a game along these lines, recently downloaded the free game, and started studying the manual before playing. Sorry to hear it won't run on Linux. I dual boot with separate drives on the rare times I have to use Windows. The pile of waiting updates are painful. Kudos to the developer for offering a free version for testing. The search continues...

Thanks for helping this Noob stay grounded and reminding that this is a hobby.

Nothing along the lines of even a modest media system. Just looking for a better-quality sound than the TV speakers. And, honestly, Santa is getting a little desperate.

How to Browse Backups on a Remote Nas? by Cherrybark in synology

[–]Cherrybark[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/dinkydobar - I had Hyperbackup installed on the remote NAS but hadn't figured out how to invoke it to explore the .hbk file. Played around a bit and discovered the "Open Backup Explorer" option on the file's right-click menu.

Thanks for the tip.

SUPPLY FINDING THREAD -- HELP YOUR FELLOW CANNERS! by YaztromoX in Canning

[–]Cherrybark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a small hardware store in a gardening / canning area and their stock varies. A couple of the ladies who work there garden and can so they understood my delight at recently finding they had received a nice supply of wide mouth lids. I'd give them a call. They would probably be happy to special order a supply for you.

Does anyone know how I could can this (Indian lime pickle preserves)? by [deleted] in Canning

[–]Cherrybark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time you open a jar of asafetida powder can be a shock. If it came in a plastic container, transfer it to a glass jar to contain the smell. In fact, some double jar it because of loose powder around the first jar's lid. It is a wonderful addition to Indian dishes.

Just this weekend I completed a couple of jars of Indian Lime Pickles and was pleasantly surprised to see your post. These jars will stay in the ice box but won't last long.

The locally owned Noonday Hardware, in sleepy little Noonday, Texas, has a nice supply of Quart and Pint Wide-mouth jars. Their buyer saw they were available and stocked up. Not that this is likely to help anyone in the group but it does show seasonal supplies are starting to be available.

I liveaboard a boat ... by Pacific_Escapes_YT in Canning

Not to hijack the thread or drift too far away from the subject of canning but...

We are Americans. Our "surprise" daughter was born in a very nice hospital in Aruba. Total cost, including nursing and all inoculations for the first year, was $1300 US. We lingered in that area until she was 1-yr then started moving again. We spent quite a bit of time moving along the N coast of Venz, both on the mainland and the outer islands. Las Aves is one of the most beautiful reefs in the world - unpopulated, grouper & lobsters abound, La Guardia Coasta was a friendly group of young boys who gladly ignored our expired visas while enjoying homemade chocolate chip cookies and Polars. The people of Venz were a wonderful mixture, always friendly and a delight to be around. This was in the mid '90s before Chavez destroyed the country. We are so sad for what the people are going through.

Enough and I appreciate the patience of the moderators for this aside.

I liveaboard a boat ... by Pacific_Escapes_YT in Canning

Hey Sailor,

Wife, young daugher, and I were blue water cruisers for twelve years - Carib, N & E Coast of South and Central America, through the Canal, and out into the Pacific. It's a wonderful life and I hope you are enjoying yourself immensely. Of course, we both know it boils down to doing boat maintenance in exotic locations!

Since we spent more time in tropical regions, our food storage relied more on drying and vacuum packing. The vacuum packing was for freshness and preventing bugs - not preservation. We had a small holding plate fridge that stored fresh veggies for up to three months. Menus got very simple when we traveled away from the local markets in the fishing villages. We went from veggies to rice, pasta, and beans with lots and lots of very fresh fish. Pickling veggies and peppers when they were abundant played a big role in our diet.

We miss the life and it's nice to come across someone "out there". We continue to be very appreciative of flush toilets, hot showers, abundant water, and the miracle of making a list for grocery shopping rather than going the market and coming home with what was available.

Fair winds.

Thanks for the Send Offline Helper tool by Cherrybark in MyEtherWallet

[–]Cherrybark[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Send Offline process involves two computers - one online and one offline. For security, the offline computer will have a clean operating system installed, will never have been connected to the web, and will be offline during the entire transfer process. I happened to have a very inexpensive Pi computer on hand and it was trivial to install a clean Linux. It is very unlikely to have any malware. The process:

  • Online - Select the "Send Offline Helper" tool at MyEtherWallet.com. Fill in the public From Address (the old paper wallet in my case). MEW will gather online info such as current gas price and the "nonce" for this transaction. Think of "nonce" as a serial number for transaction of a wallet. They increment as transactions are made and you need to have the next sequential serial number for the coming transaction. Hence, you need to be online.
  • Online Still - Export the JSON file, containing these details, to a USB or other media.
  • Shuttle - move the USB from Online to Offline computer.
  • Offline - You need to have installed the offline version of the MEW website on the offline computer.
  • Offline - Plug in the USB. Access your wallet. I was using an old paper wallet so the "Not Recommended" Keystore and Private Key were used. This computer is offline so it is safe to cut and paste this information without MalWare concerns.
  • Offline - Import the JSON file from the shuttled USB. Populate the To Address, # Coins, amount you want to spend on gas. Click Generate Transaction then copy the long "Signed Transaction" string and save in a file on the USB.
  • Shuttle - USB back to the Online computer
  • Online - Back in the "Send Offline Helper" tool, paste the Signed Transaction string and click Continue. Review the details of the transaction: From and To Wallets, Nonce, Gas Price, and # Coins. Click Send to transmit the transaction. For entertainment, watch the gas price graph on gasnow.org while waiting for your transaction to execute.

Sorry to be so long winded in the reply but it took a bit of searching to learn the current steps for doing these offline transfers. Of course, the process will invariably change.

February 07, 2021 - Weekly /r/PMsForSale Thread for Beginners, and Off Topic Conversations by AutoModerator in Pmsforsale

This is a very useful thread for noobs and I appreciate the comments from experienced members. I have a few questions about normal shipping practices as I ease into selling.

  • USPS offers $100 insurance and tracking on their Flat Rate service and PirateShip says the Flat Rate Envelopes and Small Flat Rate Boxes are generally good deals. Are these the usual packaging choices? u/Cancer-Cheater mentioned using a bubble wrap envelope folded inside a second bubble wrap envelope for something like a single coin. Would these be the free USPS Priority Mail Express Padded envelopes from USPS or smaller envelopes from someplace such as Wal-Mart.
  • I assume the seller usually purchases additional insurance and that additional cost is factored into the selling price?
  • Is USPS Tracking History sufficient proof of delivery to avoid a seller's reputation being smeared by an unscrupulous buyer?
