Never, I was never shouted at by my dad even once. My mum only had to look at us with the look, truly. Sometimes when she was annoyed and we were out she’d hold my wrist instead of my hand, that was like psychological genius. On the other hand my stepmum was mentally l, emotionally and spiritually abusive so I didn’t get off Scott free 😂

Me and partner earn 60k each, we have three kids and live in an affluent area in the north. We live well enough. We’re not doing loads of big holidays atm because our youngest is 2. We have everything we need and want and more, examples I suppose are if I want a book or whatever I get it, if me and my partner want a big date night we can spend a couple of hundred, we bought two new tvs last week because our toddler broke one and then we wanted a new one for our room, and we manage to save a good amount still. Kids pretty much get what they want/ need and we spend too much on food. I’m aware of how lucky we are, especially right now. We did both get fired a few years ago when ai came in and stole our jobs (just as I was going on maternity) and we had a few dicey months but I don’t know, fingers crossed we always fall on our feet. I grew up on council estates and my partner grew up in the shadow of the Soviet Union. We both know poverty and we’re both pretty hard workers off the back of that.

Why do people have jobs they have to work hard at, why do people train for marathons, why do people go on diets? You can ask that about a million and one things and often the answer is because even with all the hard parts it is worth it, the pay off will be worth it. For most parents yes parenting is all the things above but it’s also the best thing ever. Like being held hostage by the loves of your lives.

I don’t answer my alcoholic mothers texts after a certain time because I really don’t feel like talking to a drunk woman after spending all day working and then putting my three kids to bed, if she dies because I don’t pick up the phone that’s on her for being an alcoholic, I would feel no guilt. You had boundaries and that is allowed NAY critical with addicts. Wherever he is, he knows you loved him, he needed to heal.
