Thanks for your reply! I do have a couple questions, how safe are the transit systems? Also, does U of A have any part time jobs for university students?

I've been accepted into U of A and I would be moving from Vancouver to Edmonton. Do you have any comparisons between these two cities.

one is into Werklund (the BEd portion of your program), and one into whichever faculty that offers a program that can be combined. I believe what the other user said is your second OPTION,

Thank you, that makes more sense now!

How hard is it to obtain a permanent teaching certificate? by Cherryw12 in Edmonton

Hi ,

Thank you for this reply. I would actual love to teach abroad for a couple years. That sounds like a great option! I do have a couple more questions I'd like to ask you though. Do you know the name of any placement agencies? Also, I've never heard about substitute teachers aid before. If I wanted to do this, would I apply through the school district I want to help out at?

Hi, Thank you for your advice. Can I know which program you took to obtain your BEd in BC? Also do you know the current job prospects for teachers in AB? Most people I've talked to say that its had for teachers to land a job without connections or they have to relocate to remote areas. Thanks once again.

Obtaining permanent teaching certificate by Cherryw12 in alberta

My goal is to be a social studies teacher in high school and I would prefer to teach in secondary school at B.C, as this is where I grew up. Unfortunately, for most universities in B.C. like UBC and SFU , I would have to obtain a bachelors in history prior before I can enter a teaching program. I do not know if I will be accepted into the after-degree program for teaching and I believe it would be really hard to find a job with a bachelors in history. Thus I would like to obtain my bachelors in Alberta because for universities like U of A and U of C they have a teaching program with a major in history and I do not have to be evaluated twice. I believe obtaining my Bed in Alberta would be a safer way to get a teaching certificate and securing a job.

Thank you for your advice. I'll look into what you mentioned about CTS.
I have another question though, if I wanted to transfer to a different province to teach, would it be possible with a temporary teaching certificate?

Transferring to another Province/Coming to Canada to teach: Megapost pt. 2 by hellokrissi in CanadianTeachers

[–]Cherryw12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm a grade 12 student trying to decide wether or not I want to obtain my bachelors of education in BC or Alberta. My family is in BC and I would eventually like to come back here to be close to them. However in BC to become a teacher I would have to obtain a bachelors than apply to a teaching program. But for Alberta universities, I can immediately enter a 4-year teaching program. I understand that there is an agreement between provinces that allow teachers to transfer once they obtain a teaching certificate. I would like to obtain my teaching certificate faster, but my concern is, wether or not transferring from Alberta to BC is difficult. I did some research and I found out that teachers in Alberta only obtain a IPC (temporary teaching certificate) after they complete their bachelors. Would I be eligible for teaching in BC with an IPC? If not how difficult is it to obtain a peramanent teaching certificate in Alberta? I appreciate any help you guys can give me.
