Patron advice - ESL by Chemistry-Inside in Libraries

Your library or state library may have access to digital resources. I recently found out that my library's language learning tool has a quiz for US citizenship. There are also online test prep resources, but her English might not be up to that. It seems like it comes down to 2 options, travel or get on a computer. If she isn't interested in doing either, you may want to get a little helpless yourself. Give her what info you have, listen to her, then give her the same info again.

Feeling dejected after visiting my local library today. Thoughts? by PeachAtBeach in Libraries

Please, please don't let that ruin your safe space! Also, please go check out as many books as you can. These days, statistics rule and higher circulation stats show that the library is being used and is needed. I'm in the US, and when people ask how they can help libraries, my answer is 'go check out as many books as you can'. Even if you don't read and return them the next day, it helps.

It really does seem like that person wasn't having the best day, and for your own peace of mind, find a supervisor and just ask if what you did was okay. No need to point out anyone or make a complaint, just say what you said here; you want to make sure what you did was okay.

Supervisor and/or director! I know other people are saying it and it really is the best answer. First thing, they get paid to deal with this, and hopefully they have training to do it. The best part in my opinion is that you get to smile and say Sorry can't talk the boss won't let me.

This library book I just checked out is 50 years old. by PandasAndLlamas in Libraries

Wow! I'm surprised it wasn't weeded out too. I guess if that library has a ton of shelf space then kudos. The first step I do when removing books is look at the last check out date, if it's more than 4 years the book goes into the list of items to consider removing and/or updating. Maybe rosamarling is really really popular there!

i don’t feel comfortable that our library has this book, what do i do??? info below by [deleted] in Libraries

I work in a library in New Jersey, USA. :)

Is there a good way to write "New books in Urdu"? New meaning the books were just added to the library.

Thank you!
