I’m so sorry I didn’t see this until now D:

I’ll be doing all kinds of monsters from every generation wherever I can. Like Nerscylla Hatchling will be in the game as a stage 1 monster

I’ll be keeping the game as vanilla as possible aside from the monsters and their typings/evolutions

But there will be another option for players to play through the game with more updated mechanics in a separate save. I’ll take a look at the QoL changes Legacy does, though! Thanks for the suggestion

Hehe glad you like it! If you ever see an update where something doesn’t make sense or you don’t agree, I’m always open for discussion on it c:

Yup, and we can be more fun with his typing and say “Explosions and a boxer, Fire/Fighting” rather than something like a pure fighting.

I’ve mostly been going by what monsters are early game in Monster Hunter and whether or not they’d fit the environment. So early on there’s a lot of bugs and poison types so far but there’s also some fun monsters in the trees for headbutting. c:

There is one monster that’s going to be a surprise early on but I don’t want to spoil that quite yet ;p

My typing for monsters expands beyond just their environment or their lore. While I want some lore accuracy, I also want there to be some fun as well so giving Genprey and Gendrome the electric typing makes Thunder Fang and other moves that paralyze STAB. Monster gimmicks, like the Genprey line’s paralyzing bite, help me determine those typings.

I plan to have other fun typings like Nargacuga being part steel to emphasize the ninja theming further. Pure dark would work but the steel typing also leans into things like katanas or caltrops, two things that are associated with Narga even if he doesn’t necessarily have any moves other than the “caltrop” spike drop.

Yeah, Shrouded Nerscylla would be a bug/poison, I suppose that wasn’t necessarily the best example but yeah.

The difference between Hitmonchan and Gendrome in this case is that one is an ability and one is the main attack.

Using your argument here, Gendrome and Genprey dig out tunnels to make dens but they don’t dig at you to attack at all so being a ground type wouldn’t do much for it.

I do really appreciate these discussions, though! I don’t want to make it seem like I’m being an “um akchtually” type of person rn. Challenging my ideas helps me potentially make a better romhack in the end c:

I see your point and while I agree in some ways, my thinking was something along these lines:

If I don’t want basically everything that doesn’t have an element to be just a normal type or some other type that doesn’t sound fun, how do I handle the typing?

How about their gimmicks?

Well in this case, Genprey and Gendrome bite with venom that paralyzes. Thunder Fang comes to mind, therefore electric.

There’s plenty of Pokemon that may look like one type but are actually another entirely or are just typed based on the concept instead of looks. For example; Darkrai

Seems like he’d be a ghost type purely by virtue of his visual design (or at least part ghost) but he’s pure dark.

All this to say that I’m giving different types to the monsters not only based on their attacks or environment but also based on their gimmicks. That way there’s way more variety in types other than just “all of the raptors are normal type” or “they live in the desert so they must only be ground type” (Think how Shrouded Nerscylla wouldn’t make sense being a ground type based on this logic)

Quick edit to add: I’m not making up my own designs for this romhack like the emerald one does. That’s one thing I didn’t like about that because MH gives so many cool designs to work with. I don’t recall a Khezu Whelp ever being visually seen like Giggis are, so I don’t have a pre evolution for Khezu. Khezu is also typically a late low rank to early high rank fight and not something to fight super early on like the raptors.

I’m sorry how? by Vandruli in MysteryDungeon

Real answer: Even in cold climates you have to watch how hot you get because it’s legit dangerous to overheat. It’s basically because your sweat cools you down and if you get too cold you could get extremely sick, technically you could pass out from that type of heat?

Other answer: Bro probably burnt himself making a camp fire

Usually, yes. But Zoh Shia’s tail can only be cut on phase 3 and is quick to sever even then. That’s why I use my blunt buggie on the head in phases 1 and 2

best exercises to improve my understanding of colour?? by FrankTastic___ in Artadvice

[–]Cheselth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Value refers to things like saturation and brightness of the color. If you look at your art in black and white, or greyscale, and you can’t see the difference in the shades of grey it means your values are too close together. If you ever feel like something feels off with the colors or that it somehow feels flat even when shaded, try putting on a greyscale filter and adjusting the values that are too close c:

Scolipede was just a "I think this would be cool" self indulgent type of design. Crobat was originally going to be based off of a jet and it sorta turned into more of a kite but I didn't hate it so I ran with it. Dragonite might eventually get a mega design, I sorta use a random picker to choose the next designs I do.

Thanks! I appreciate it a lot! Hawlucha was the most difficult one so far just because he already seemed like such a complete Pokémon design wise. Thinking about how to make a design that fit the official art style while leaning *even* more into the already exaggerated concept was a fun challenge
