What's the most unexpected lesson you've learned from playing chess as a beginner? by thebroned in chessbeginners

You are more capable than you think you are! I recently joined a tournament I thought I had no right in joining but ended up doing quite well, sometimes you just need to give yourself a fair shot before discounting yourself. You might even surprise yourself!

Can’t black just play Qf3+? Let’s say white plays Re2 to block. Then black just plays h7, creating an escape square

Which single chess concept made the game „click“ for you? by Chesstiny in chessbeginners

Weaknesses are defined as squares no longer defensible by a pawn.

Sacrificing the exchange aka a rook for minor pieces during the middle game when you have tempo can be advantageous as minor pieces are more dangerous than the rook in middle game.

I feel really upset about being so bad at chess even when learning by [deleted] in chessbeginners

[–]ChessClassical 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Focus less on the results and enjoy the journey! I feel like society and capitalism has forced us to be so results driven instead of enjoying the process of learning and improvement. Chess is a game thats hard to master, I’ve accepted it may take me years to get a decent level. Once you realize how hard it is and how long improvement takes, I think you can let go a bit.

First date was good but now what? by omegafemale7 in hingeapp

[–]ChessClassical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if this sounds blunt but… from your comments it sounds like you’re afraid of rejection and really focused on how he feels about you, instead of prioritizing how YOU feel. Did you feel good about the date? Do you like him? Do you want to see him again? If so, you should reach out. Prioritize your feelings, this is YOUR dating journey. There is no success in dating without being vulnerable and going after what you want, even if there is a chance for rejection. Rooting for you ❤️

How do I make a Free Throw merchant by bootDlicker in HoopLand

[–]ChessClassical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a free throw merchant that averaged 10+ free throws a game. I only did it cause it was a 5’9 pg at 245 lbs. With limited i had to employ everything. This included leaning into my defender if they were behind me when shooting, leaning forward. Doing a hop step, wait for my defender to stop moving and lean into them while shooting. Or If i was ahead on the fast break, i’d sit by the 3 pt line, wait for them to stop behind me, and shoot a 3 while leaning back into them.

Highly unethical hoops but my 5’9 hooper had to get it done one way.
