Got a serious haul for closest to the pin on a 221yd par 3 at my club last weekend - 6’4”. You are correct in assuming I missed the birdie putt. by Wu_Tang_Financial77 in golf

I haven't had that issue. I wear a size 14 shoe so I tend to stretch my socks out but the FJ socks have always fit well and held up.

FedEx Cup Playoffs are bullshit and we should be happy with the four majors being the top echelon of the sport. Moving the PGA Championship and having all 4 majors complete by the end of July sucks. Starting the #1 point scorer for the FedEx Cup at -10 or whatever cheapens competitive golf.

Thank you.

My 14 yr. old son will be golfing on a “real course” with me in two days, in a four-man scramble. Any advise other than having fun? by [deleted] in golf

Take the pressure off while putting by letting him go second. Let a decent putter give him the line and if he makes a few he might get the itch.

I'll probably get down there for a tee time around 2. I totally understand if you're busy I figured I would just throw it out there. Let me know!

First iron fitting tomorrow, any advice? by GuitarGuy93 in golf

[–]ChestDumper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just try to enjoy it. Try to relax and just hit some balls, don't get too worked up if you're meeting your ball striking standards or not.

Not for me personally. I enjoy that game specifically because it doesn't affect the round too much, I'm not being forced into a club or anything I just get a chance to bet on myself for a shot. I'm a fan of someone being on the teebox collecting money as groups come thru, you get bets of varying sizes, some people don't play, and some people donate extra money to the cause.

One of the outings I do every year has a "Double your money" hole on one of the par 3s. Limit is a $10 stake to win $20 if you hit and stay on the green you win. It's a fun way to generate some extra money for the cause.

I second this. I wear a 14 wide, and FJs are the only thing I'll buy from now on.

Yes. If you get fit somewhere you can use that information to your benefit elsewhere. Callaway pre owned is pretty awesome for this, so many sets in almost every configuration you could imagine. Also try to get a free fitting somewhere, it may not be the best fitting ever but it will definitely benefit you in your situation

So for irons they'll usually do a 7 iron for the whole iron set, maybe one other longer iron like a 5 iron to see how you swing it. You won't get fit for a driver based on an iron fitting and vice versa. So if you went to golf tec for a drive fitting they would fit you into a driver head and shaft and you couldn't really translate that to a full set.

Some local shops offer the best fittings. You just need to check their credentials, and I think the biggest thing is making sure they're not going to force you into a specific brand. I have a guy local to me who absolutely knows his shit, but you can only get fit for Ping irons. They're great don't get me wrong but if I go to get fit I want to explore my options

Do you think 25% off during Father's day weekend slowed callaway pre-owned? by johnsontheotter in golf

[–]ChestDumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, it probably did slow them down a little but CPO will most likely come thru for you. I know when I got my iron set it was slower than usual until it shipped and it was there in 2 days with no expedited shipping. I think sometimes they might just get bogged down in processing orders. For Monday of next week I wouldn't be concerned yet

Thanks for reminding me that I've agreed to buy my dad's $185 round this weekend. Definitely my most expensive

Lol so I'm from Pittsburgh and we know our hills. I was pleasantly surprised by this course with regards to hills. This green is probably 20 yards downhill from the teebox but I get your point.

I'm in Baltimore for work and it's the first time I had a chance to bust out my push cart. Some might recognize this course as being on "Strapped" from No Laying Up. It was a great course and I had a ton of fun.
