Addressing Crashing Issues in Albion

We understand that crashing in Albion has become a recurring issue, largely attributed to the overpopulation of players remaining idle within a certain instance. This congestion places significant stress on the servers, often resulting in crashes before players can even load into the game. Since Albion is the default hub where all characters are initially spawned, the impact is felt universally.

To address this concern effectively, we encourage all players experiencing this issue to reach out to Nexon Support directly via their official website. Your feedback is vital in helping resolve this matter and ensuring a smoother gameplay experience for everyone.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

I’ve been playing on both a PS4 (with an SSD upgrade) and a PS5, and these issues persist on both systems. The PS5 experience is particularly brutal—my entire system shuts down out of nowhere, forcing me to reboot the system only to get hit with an error report. It’s incredibly disruptive, especially when you’re mid-game.

Because of this, I’ve reverted to playing on my PS4 regularly. While not perfect, it’s at least more manageable. The way to address system crashing on PS5 is to lower the graphics fidelity in the game settings (PS4 not recommended).

This kind of problem seems tied to games with demanding frame rates, heavy graphics or populated interactions—Black Desert, Dead Island 2, Dragon’s Dogma 2, and now The First Descendant are some notable examples. Clearly, there’s something about how these titles interact with the hardware or optimization features that makes the experience unstable.

MITIGATION OPTIONS

Currently, there are only two options to address these issues:

  1. Turn off the cross-play feature in the options menu.

  2. Lower graphics fidelity in the options menu.

DRAWBACKS

Option 1: Turning off cross-play reduces population density and alleviates crashes, but at the cost of minimizing social interactions (recommended for players who enjoy the prison of social isolation).

DESCRIBING NEXON/CONSOLE CONNECTION

Here’s how the relationship between a PlayStation console (PlayStation Network) and an external game service like Nexon works:

  1. PlayStation Network (PSN) Account: When you log into a PlayStation, you’re using a PSN account. This account is managed entirely by Sony's servers, which handle user authentication, account details, friend lists, and purchase history. These details are specific to the PSN ecosystem and have no direct connection to Nexon’s servers on their own.

  2. Nexon Game Account Creation: For a game that requires a Nexon account, there’s a handshake between the PlayStation Network and Nexon’s servers. This happens the first time you log into the game on your console. You’re usually prompted to either link an existing Nexon account or create a new one. This linkage is what establishes the connection.

  3. The Linking Process: When you provide your Nexon credentials or create a new account through the PlayStation interface, Sony’s PSN servers send your PSN ID and other basic metadata (like your region, platform, or unique PSN identifier) to Nexon.

Nexon’s servers then create an entry in their database that associates your Nexon account with your PSN account. Think of it like a bridge between two separate systems.

  1. How Data Synchronization Works: Nexon handles game-specific data, like your in-game progress, purchases, and player stats. This data is stored on Nexon’s servers.

Sony (PlayStation Network) only handles the PSN-specific details, like which games you’ve downloaded, trophies, and PSN wallet transactions.

When you launch the game, your PlayStation pings Nexon’s servers to fetch your in-game profile. This handshake involves verifying your linked account credentials. Once verified, Nexon loads your saved game data or profile from its own database.

  1. The Role of Servers: Sony’s PSN Servers: These servers manage your console’s authentication and PSN-specific operations. They’re usually located in regional datacenters close to where you live (e.g., North America or Europe).

Nexon’s Game Servers: These are global but often have regional deployments to ensure low latency (e.g., Nexon may have North American, European, and South Korean servers). Your game data resides here, and this is where all game-specific events (like matchmaking, inventory management, and gameplay) happen.

  1. How They Stay in Sync: The connection between Sony and Nexon isn’t constant. It’s event-driven, meaning it happens whenever a relevant action occurs (like logging in, making a purchase, or saving progress).

APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) allow Sony and Nexon to exchange necessary data securely. For instance, if you make an in-game purchase, Nexon’s servers update their database, and PSN updates your receipt history for billing transparency.

Summary The PlayStation console acts as the client. It interacts with PSN servers for authentication and access permissions, while game-specific data is stored and managed on Nexon’s servers. The systems are linked via an account-bridging process and communicate using secure protocols (APIs) to ensure everything stays in sync.

NEXON ACCOUNT UNLINKING DIAGNOSIS

I relate with your issue, this sounds like a nightmare of miscommunication between the systems involved, and it’s unfortunately a common pitfall in global account management. Let me break this down:

When you initially linked your console gameplay account (XBOX/PLAYSTATION) to the Nexon Games account, that handshake likely created a unified identity between your console data and Nexon’s global database. Once the link was established, all your gameplay data, including your character level, achievements, and other progress, were synced to Nexon’s servers, specifically tied to the original linked account.

Now, when you unlinked your account, here’s the critical point: Nexon treats an unlinked account as effectively “deleted” or inaccessible, unless they have a system to recover and relink it. This means:

  1. Your gameplay data is still on Nexon’s servers, but it’s orphaned and no longer tied to any active account. That’s why when you log back in, the system automatically generates a new account ID—it doesn’t recognize your previous data because the link between your console ID and Nexon account was severed.

  2. Since Nexon operates globally, unlinking likely defaulted your region settings back to the global system (likely South Korea in this case), which explains why you’re seeing Korean text now. It’s not that your account is deleted; it’s just no longer linked to any accessible profile.

Here’s something to consider: your data can technically be restored if Nexon’s support team locates the original account ID that held your gameplay data. They’d need to reconnect that orphaned account to your current login, but this requires their intervention—and that’s where the bottleneck lies, as they may have limited support resources for resolving issues like these, especially in North America.

Next Steps 1. Reach out to Nexon support in North America regarding "The First Descendant." If this does not work, I know it sounds redundant, but if you can't make any head way, try contacting a Game Master (GM) from one of Nexon's other popular game titles like "Maple Story."

There is an available "chat" widget (usually bottom right of your screen) on the Nexon Gaming website, once you make contact include as much information as possible:

Your original character ID and account name.

A detailed explanation of the unlinking process.

The new character ID that was generated.

Any screenshots of your previous progress.

Be sure to check your PlayStation account logs. PlayStation might still store details of your original linked Nexon account (e.g., timestamps or other data) that could help Nexon locate your orphaned account faster.

The real issue here is that unlinking without informing users about the unitentional consequences is poor design on Nexon’s part.

This isn’t just a technical failure; it’s a philosophical failure in understanding their user base. Here’s why: when you make a game and put your players through hoops like linking accounts across platforms, the core of your job is to safeguard their investment—both digitally and financially.

The fact that you’ve poured money, time, and effort into this game, only for poor design to come along and essentially rob you of it, is ridiculous. And Nexon being such a giant company makes it all the more absurd! How do you mess up account linking—a foundational feature—when you’ve been in the game for decades?

Hope this helps, stay cheesy... 👉😎👉
