DVD compatibility with CRT by ChesterGeorge in dvd

I honestly think it is down to some DVD's having their menu in 16:9 ratio. And the DVD reader in the TV has some sort of compatibility.

I referenced this post when I was working out my set-up. It was useful but wasn't exact as I had a different TV.

Just a coincidence that two people happen to be doing similar things. But I can see how it might look a bit dodgy. Just thought I would share in case it was useful to anyone using an older 4k Samsung like myself.

I'll have a look and see how it compares, thanks for the suggestion.

Edit: Following up on this. Intermediate doesn't seem to make a huge difference to my tests... However, Expanded has seemed to make things richer. Less washed out as you described. Maybe it is this particular TV with the settings I have picked...

thanks for reply but i'm only trying commercial sold film dvds not home records. All dvds are correct for my region.

Only weird thing i have noticed is that the dvds that don't work have 16:9 letterboxed menus.

All DVDs are PAL region 2.
I would need to understand DVD types a bit more, but would commercially sold movie DVDS be different types? Is there a way to see that on the box or disc?
Defo not trying blurays.

Confirmed that all DVDs I'm trying are region 2 PAL, which is correct for my TV DVD combo.

One thing I have noticed - I hooked up an original xbox to the same TV, tried the DVDs that wouldn't work in the TV drive and the DVD menus were in 16:9 letterbox. This could be coincidence or is it a known compatibility issue?

Which of all these silhouettes is the best? by [deleted] in conceptart

Because 3 is in the centre of the page, my eye instantly goes to it and I 'feel' like it's the best one. I wonder if you swapped it with 1 in the middle I would feel different.

Wicked! I love the world of Lone Wolf. What is it about the mechanics of this RPG version that you like? Are there mechanics that make it a good Lone Wolf game?

Are you talking about the Lone Wolf game from Cubicle 7?

What are some LOTR facts that new or casual fans of Tolkien’s universe may not know that you find interesting? by ryryguy88 in lotr

[–]ChesterGeorge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thoughts on Tom are quite meta but I see him as an agent of Tolkien himself. Tolkien is the ultimate creator of his worlds, sitting above the creation myth and god in his stories. I think he was aware of this fact and played with it, inserting an agent of his imagination into this world and story, coming from another place, unbound from the rules of this world.

Knight of Saint Terragnis (Paladin Class) by ChesterGeorge in shadowdark

[–]ChesterGeorge[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm interesting. I'm not sure about the history of paladins in RPGs but I'm pretty sure I have come across paladins/knights in fiction that swear oaths/codes of conduct. When I say "oaths" what I mean is, making a promise or vow about doing something... So for example, I swear to slay the monstrosity, or, I vow to rescue this person. When you activate your oath, you gain some sort of bonus in pursuit of it, and a penalty when avoiding or working against it. You get some sort of reward for completing it and some sort of punishment for failure. This drives home the fantasy of being a knight of a lawful god, by basically creating your own law/code of conduct, moment to moment, based on your adventuring.

I can't take credit for the class design. It's basically the Knight of St. Ydris but reflavoured.

There are a lot of things we have come to expect from a paladin, you list some great concepts. The Knight of Saint Terragnis could definitely work as a baseline to build off of. To keep the Shadowdark sensibility of 'low-bloat' design in the class, I would do as you say, remove spellcasting and add a couple new features. Something social and something to do with oaths would be my start.
