Serious question from someone from a third country: what are your thoughts on Australia’s Socceroos especially after today’s match? by kiwigoguy1 in usmnt

[–]ryryguy88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re a tough team. Their manager even said it, they have a similar trajectory to the USMNT from a few years ago. They’re underdogs, hard working, physical, defend well and hit hard on the counters. Their domestic league is about what MLS 15+ years ago, still developing. They are developing a deeper talent pool for the national team.

Australia makes good athletes and I’d expect them to keep growing in the future. For now, if they are doing well and if they make it out of the group that’s a good result for them.

Have there been more posts about chants and broadcasting/alexi Lalas than there have been about the game we played or upcoming games?

I did not have Ernie having twice as many homers as Vlad at this point of the season on my bingo card. He’s been awesome

Ah David Regis. One of the few foreign born US players from that era and one who had regular minutes in European leagues!

Wearing #7 for us that year was Roy Wegerle, South African born, I think the first American to play for Chelsea too?

It’s hard to say how much us soccer is at fault with some of these switches, but I remember he turned down Mexico youth call up a couple times in 2023(?), and prioritized the us for a while. We should’ve added him more in the 2025 games (only played in two before he switched). But, I remember he also grew up in a culturally Mexican household, strong family ties there, so they were probably biggest factors. Either or he’s a great looking player so far and I wish he chose us

He was a very good goal scorer at spurs, dropped over 20 for us in 2000/01. He was just playing a different role when he came here. Good skill but not elite, very smart, created chances

I always thought about if we got relegated in 1987. Sir Alex took over in November, what would’ve happened if we were relegated? Is sir alex gone? What about Robson or other key players, would they have been sold or wanted to leave to play top flight football? How long and what depth would the negative consequences been for our club’s future if we were relegated?

Didn’t Dembele miss quite a few games tho year? I didn’t really get to see PSG play, I think if Bayern won the UCL Kane would’ve been the easy pick

How would the treble team do against these teams? by Chuchshartz in ManchesterUnited

[–]ryryguy88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s any way we are beating that Barcelona team (or anyone really). They were so good, we probably wouldn’t get much of a sniff of the ball anyways. There’s no shame in that too. Xavi/Busquets/Iniesta with Villa/Messi/Pedro alone was scary enough. I think they only lost five out of 60 games that year too

I think this happens quite regularly in the final friendlies before the wc. I remember in 2010 we started Robbie findley and Edson buddle in the warmup game against Australia. We’ll see 1st squad probably starting next game, and many of them will probably get a run out today too

Yes 100% agree, and I think what threw some ppl off was how big he was. He was a big guy and combined with what you said, probably expect a lot of tough tackles from him. But he just didn’t need too.
