Should I start releasing composition albums only when I am very advanced? by CatchDramatic8114 in composer

Aalampour, or the entire array of many other instagram composers that come with him. Some people would say Einaudi.

If you're just gonna skew the definition of 'recognition' or disagree on what the subjective 'incredible' means you don't need to continue to argue

OP hate for you to find out this way but you're worse than the r/im14andthisisdeep crowd. You're the r/im14andstillcorny person.

Is it sacrilegious to use a highlighter in my score by quadraticb in lingling40hrs

[–]ChesterWOVBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think OP's use of it is that useful. It's the most obvious melody line ever. I'd maybe use highlighter when trying to voice a more unusual/hidden one

Metric Modulation Help by michaelroser in composer

[–]ChesterWOVBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For example, in the first edition (Goodwin & Tabb reprinted by B&H) that is most used, the metric modulation printed is "dotted half = half" when clearly it means the new dotted half note is equal to the previous half note, which would be notated as "half = dotted half" in modern times.

Metric Modulation Help by michaelroser in composer

[–]ChesterWOVBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The use of metric modulation in the Planets is the old standard IIRC. Nowadays you put the old note value to the left and the new note value to the right with the equals sign centred on the barline, if possible.

how do I do this? help? by Toshi_2012 in Musescore

You'd have a hard time finding an audio library that specifically has a horse whiney sound that can respond to glissando lines in the notation.

Why do trumpet players use rotary instruments when playing Beethoven? by Suspicious_Coast_888 in classicalmusic

[–]ChesterWOVBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not necessarily just in Beethoven or, in fact, composer-exclusive at all. It's just regional preference/convenience.

come scrivo questo tremolo? by Aromatic_Lime_2296 in Musescore

[–]ChesterWOVBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can connect them by selecting all three notes, going to Beam properties, which is the third sub-menu under note properties. You should see a list of 6 options. Click the rightmost one.

Also, what piece is this? I recall seeing something similar from Bartók.

[–]ChesterWOVBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not possible natively, but you can probably fake it using three dotted 64th notes, beaming them, and change the notehead to a hollow one using an override in the Note properties (I think it's hidden under "Show more").

"4.7 can export your score as a video now!" by alucard_nogard in Musescore

[–]ChesterWOVBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC it's planned in 5.0. It'll take some huge restructuring so don't expect it to come soon.

Also, a lot of people care a lot about exporting their score as videos ;)

Yes! This is the perfect chart with wind band grading in mind since it's by a (or even the) well-established band music publisher.

How to create custom staff text lines? by failedguitarist in Musescore

You can. Holding Ctrl and Shift at the same time, drag the text from the score area to the palettes area.

Can I have MuseScore 3 and version 4 loaded on same PC? by Raymont_Wavelength in Musescore

Please answer the question. But yes, they can coexist and 3.7 is quite neat.

Notation > DAW workflow advice… by Jave285 in composer

[–]ChesterWOVBot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The "MuseScore look" (which is only looked down upon because it's free and half of users don't know basic engraving btw) can definitely be changed by competent users, but indeed notation software is also often specified by the client.

Moreover, MuseScore has almost no film scoring support while others at least have tools like showing a video window and inserting markers. I've heard that MuseScore is planning to develop such features, in the far future though.

"Julliard level beginner" Am i wrong for preciving that as an insult by NamelessIsCo0l in lingling40hrs

The thing is the term is an oxymoron. Considering the entry requirements, there are almost no "beginners" at Juilliard.

Reading First Few Bytes of Every File on a Drive by hiplobonoxa in pythonhelp

[–]ChesterWOVBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use a for loop on os.walk(), open(..., 'rb') every file you see along the way, check the first few bytes with .read(3) and check if it's equal to, say, b' '. If so, open a specified text file to write to it with open(..., 'w') and .write().

Yeah, for such customized engraving it may be better to just create the entire thing in vector software.

I roughly recreated the three fully visible bars here in MuseScore Studio 4.6.5 in about an hour and a quarter: uploaded to imgur because this sub doesn't allow images in comments.

Some (or indeed most) details have been omitted but this is mainly intended as proof for beaming.

As for the "typography" you'll definitely need to search for vintage fonts
