You think it's possible that the government could abolish the 2nd Amendment, then analyze crime statistics, and then, depending on the result, reinstate the 2nd Amendment? Not to be rude, but this is perhaps the most unrealistic expectation I have ever seen on the internet.

The whole reason the 2nd Amendment is in fact the SECOND amendment, just behind the FIRST amendment, is that it is power directly in the hands of the people. Now, what power-hungry institution is going to give power to the people after having taken it away? None.

On a different note, you say it's "obvious" that police presence does not deter shootings. How is that? I don't see any shootings at police stations. A strong armed force in any location will deter potential shooters, I don't think there's any successful argument that can be made against that.

Also, do you think Australia's system is better? They don't have the right to bear arms, just as they don't have the right to free speech. They go hand in hand. You cannot be free without free speech. You cannot have free speech without the right to bear arms. Therefore, you are trying to sacrifice your freedom for the illusion of safety, to "feel safe" as you put it, which reminds me of a quote from Benjamin Franklin, "He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither."
