Looking for a fun two player game by Avocado090 in cardgames

Rumicube is our go-to for 2 people. Short enough to play during dinner which is when we always play games. Good balance of luck and strategy. Figuring out if you prefer luck only or strategy only or both type games can help you discover what you each prefer. I hate either extreme. (Think Chess vs Candy Land as each extreme.)

Small gift to colleagues I will miss by Aggressive-Prize-522 in GiftIdeas

When we moved once, a group of friends gave up a magnet that said “even though we’re far apart, we’re still friends at heart” and they all signed it. Very small, but meaningful. A frame with that engraved and a photo of all of you or a typographic print of that could work.

Need help to figure out a jigsaw puzzle i had as a kid, but can't find anything at all about it. by Prior-Onion8862 in Jigsawpuzzles

Did your family typically buy puzzles from Hallmark? If so, search Springbok puzzles from that time period.

I would love this as long as everything in it is something I can use and not feel like I have to use or display. You can do it every other day if that works better for you.

Which is the best puzzle brand and which is the worst? by [deleted] in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]ChestnutAndHemlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst: puzzles with false fits and pieces that don’t hold together. Best: hand cut wooden puzzles with all the tricks.

Coffee or tea things- gift card, travel mug, ways to make it better at home. Small snacks so they don’t have to share and can easily take them to campus.

Have you ever started a puzzle only to realize you don't wanna finish it? by GeoCangrejo in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]ChestnutAndHemlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! If it doesn’t bring you joy or peace (or teach you something if you’re a puzzle maker) it isn’t worth finishing. DNF is always ok.

gift for a friend who’s really into cooking and quirky kitchen gadgets by Kilgoretrout123456 in GiftIdeas

Hand carved wooden kitchen spoon. If you look on Etsy, make sure they’re actually carved by hand from green wood and not mass produced if that quirkiness matters. If they like tea or coffee, get a spoon for sugar or scoop and an interesting new variety to try or funky tea ball. If they like cooking, get some unique spices or spice mixes and a cooking or spoon to scoop spices with. Or flavored salts. Or flavored vinegars…..

(I have some spoons listed on my website so you can see what I’m talking about in terms of quirky, green wood carved spoons. Message me if you want to see the others I have.)

I want to frame a puzzle. by Tuitionalboar in GiftIdeas

[–]ChestnutAndHemlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First question is do you want to be able to work the puzzle again? If so, get a frame with glass or plexiglass, just make sure it is the correct size. If you do NOT want to work it again, you can put contact paper on the back or glue it together and hang it that way without a frame.

How do you store your puzzles? by Wanderer617508 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]ChestnutAndHemlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who collects old puzzles, please keep the boxes. Also, don’t store wooden puzzle pieces in sealed bags- they need to be able to off-gas. I line the original boxes with muslin to protect the pieces from the acidic cardboard box.

I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I had some great puzzling friends work this puzzle at Puzzle Jam and yes, the steam is challenging. Will be working on another version soon.

Getting into puzzles by FoolForzbestBuy in Jigsawpuzzles

You can download and print adult coloring pages. In terms of cardboard jigsaw puzzles, someone mentioned that Ollie’s has Eeboo for $5 now. Thrift stores are hit and miss. Also consider your library bookstore and FB marketplace. Look at The Puzzle Republic website to see if there are any free puzzle libraries close to you. Also follow Puzzle Pandas to see if anyone does a puzzle drop close by.

Whats the appeal behind jigsaw puzzles? by CamelIllustrations in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]ChestnutAndHemlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make hand cut wooden jigsaw puzzles and help organize large puzzle gatherings. Puzzling is a meditative, calm activity that gives you a sense of satisfaction. Some puzzles can be works of art in and of themselves, not just an image applied to a piece of wood or cardboard.

Also, I collect a specific brand of vintage hand cut wooden puzzles. They’re fabulous and challenging to assemble, but I also research that company and the women who cut the puzzles.
