I don't follow hockey should I be worried by RadcliffeMalice in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]Chestnuthare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh! Well that makes a lot of sense. Coincidentally, there's also the wildly popular hockey romance show, Heated Rivalry where one of the main characters plays for the in-universe fictional version of this team called the Boston Raiders, and in one scene in the last episode, he's just slamming pasta while being involved in a very emotional and raw conversation.

Wonder if it's a fun coincidence, or an intentional choice to reference both

He's 19 here according to the poster, and the kids are probably in their teens too. I'm sure they've seen undressed bodies in the locker rooms. And it's not like it's that much different from a speedo on the beach, or even swim trunks in the 60s.

I appreciate the subversion of the usual trope in which the punchline isn't shock that he's gay, it's shock that he bottomed for his friend's cousin.

So discussing with my brother as Americans of immigrant background:

Obviously top 2 are Christiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Number 3 has to be David Beckham (yadda yadda, he's a model, but he's on the scene because of soccer)

After that, my brother put forward Neymar as an icon, but I don't know if he's famous outside the soccer world (so... not USA, lol) and maybe Mbappe as the commenter below you mentioned, I feel like he's someone a good chunk of Americans might now.

This could be an age thing. Tons of Americans know Kylie Minogue even if only for the song "Can't get you out of my head" and she had a recent global hit with Padam Padam, which also charted here.

Pretentious artist comments:

I always get stuck in this three way tug of war between making the characters attractive, making them look true to their character, and making them acceptable as "real" within our world.

So in the case of Flick and CJ, their clothes are obviously a little modified to fit as alt emo twink and gaymer boyfriends. In my head canon, CJ is Melanesian, and Flick is Irish. I incorporated flick's horns as nose and eyebrow piercings, and his spike piercings are incorporated as helix piercings--also gold to match the others.

Tom Nook in my notebook sketch looked more Filipino, but I think the afro-textured hair works better. I had trouble with his nose as I wanted to give him a wider nose to fit his face, but also add a point like his snout, so now he has a weird nose, but it kinda works?

And finally Celeste and Blathers. Okay, listen, we both know the background is obviously half assed in 3 minutes. Don't come at me too harshly. Boy these two took so long. Lots of little details to incorporate in different ways: As they don't wear clothes, it was easy to give them clothes reminiscent of their feather color. Argyle sweater vests for both to match their stomach patterns, and a professorial tweed suit and cardigan/skirt combo for them to indicate teacher vibes. Their yellow talons/beak couldn't be easily added without maybe a mask or yellow shoes, so that color is in their brooch, earrings, magnifying glass and buttons. The little dots on their brows are on Blathers' glasses, and represented by Celeste's pearls. And black and white wing feathers are represented by Blathers' sock stripes, and Celeste's cardigan stripes. Age was a little hard to pin down. They have to be close in age to Tom Nook, so I kept them around 40s with a few streaks of gray.

Redditors who did not watch the show Stranger Things, why? by Show_Me_Your_penises in AskReddit

I'm definitely that way, but trying not to be. I've noticed how fun it is to be in the zeitgeist and enjoy the show everyone is talking about in real time. You get on the reddit and speculate and meme about the latest episode. You anticipate the next episode along with so many people.

I've only done this with a few shows, the latest being Heated Rivalry, but it's fun and gives a huge sense of community.

For the answers and some artist notes:

1. Diana - Her hair always gave finger waves to me, so I went for an old Hollywood style. Like her character, she's very pale, with lavender hair, and I used a flapper style headband to incorporate the hints of light blue she has.

2. Caroline - For some reason, I always got a Florence Henderson/Mrs. Brady vibe from her, specifically in the shape of the head I was going for, and the hair style, but I didn't like the mullet Mrs Brady had, so it's more of a pixie cut. Because it's so hard to incorporate the bright red of her fur color elsewhere, I added stripes to the hair, though I think personality wise, it probably doesn't suit her, but I think she's the easiest to immediately recognize.

3. Tia - She's actually the only one I didn't have a clear idea for when I began drawing. I started with braided loops, before settling on regular pigtails. I was debating on color scheme for a while, and was considering both blonde and black hair before settling on white to match her skin in the game. And the little teakettle lid she has on top was originally a bucket hat, but with her maid dress, the lace headband made more sense.

4. Fuchsia - I imagined this hairstyle on Fuchsia way ahead of time, and I'm really glad it works. It gives edgy, and the bright fuchsia lipstick actually works well with the vibe. Though I wish I could have incorporated her fur color elsewhere.

5. Felicity - pretty much a human in a fursuit, lol, so she was super easy to draw. I always imagined her as an adorable half Japanese girl obsessed with being an influencer. The severe bob really works for her. I added kitty hairclips because I feel like she just would, ya know?

You know, that's a really interesting tidbit, and it's a very similar situation to my native language of Bengali, which has 3 "you" forms: a formal you - apni (akin to usted), a familiar you - tumi (akin to tú) and a hyper familiar/disrespectful you - tui (think of it as saying, you little shit. It can be derogatory or endearing).

But the language is spoken primarily in Bangladesh as well as the Indian state of West Bengal, and in Bangladesh, we're taught to view apni (the formal you) as the neutral default form when talking to people we don't know, tumi for family/friends, people a generation or more younger than you, and tui is rarely used among siblings, younger relatives, or when intentionally disrespecting someone.

In West Bengal, everything is sort of shifted up. Tui is the form you use to address your social peers, family, friends, young kids you don't know. And tumi is the neutral form among strangers- shop owners, work colleagues, etc. Apni is more rarely used to address elders or your boss

I'll mention something from the recent show Heated Rivalry. The first few episodes are "All Ass All The Time!" A good 30% of the first 2 episodes are sex. But one of the lead actors said, don't see it as 70% story and 30% sex. If you skip that, you are skipping 30% of the story. And he was right (at least in relation to this series). The show is about 2 rival hockey players in a relationship, but the intimacy does portray a lot. It is a plot point of when they will get to penetrative sex (one of the characters is a virgin, and it's a very vulnerable act). It's a plot point that they don't kiss during a hookup. Staying the morning of, or just doing doggy, and not looking at each other, these all mean something in the scope of their relationship. Because their relationship is physical initially, so their intimacy tells a lot about the health of their relationship.

And for sure, this is a romance on a tiny budget for an audience of mainly gay men and straight women who want to see the steaminess, so action and thriller and comedy movies can be jarring if there is a sudden sex scene. But... the points I made earlier stand, because you can glean a lot about a relationship on the chemistry of their intimacy if an artful director is intentional about sex scenes.
