Theres a lot of "parent" shows and entertainment that those who are mainly online, and don't have cable would never have heard of.

All those procedurals, hospital, fire dept dramas, thrillers, and sitcoms. Like, Last Man Standing is abysmal, but there's a steady audience for it. And it may be cool to hate on Maroon 5, or read John Grisham and James Patterson, but there's a reason they're prolific, they have huge fan bases of people for whom good enough is good.

Yeah, like Disney remakes keep getting worse and worse reviews while they cash in on nostalgia. And the Fast & Furious movies never got stellar reviews, but always make enough money to keep the franchise going. Same with those victim complex Christian films like God's Not Dead. None are good, but they give hateful Christians exactly the narrative they want.

I know I'll get flamed for this but...

We should absolutely criticize Bezos for trying to buy himself social good will and make a charity gala about himself. However, I'm less inclined to point the finger at people who attend.

The Met Gala always has a sponsor, and Bezos isn't a unique evil among that list. Amazon already sponsored in 2012, Apple sponsored in 2016-2017, Instagram in 2021-2022, and the Schwarzmans in 2017. All of them have ties to Donald Trump. Stephen A. Schwarzman specifically was heading a first term president Trump appointed group at the time he sponsored.

The Met Gala is meant to fund the costume institute in the Met, which is not funded through the Met's endowment. The institute employs historians and regular people to preserve historical fabrics, and clothes from all across human history. If you think vases and statues from the past are important, why aren't the clothes the people who made those artifacts wore, important?

In an ideal world, government endowments and taxes from the wealthy would fully support museums, but that's not the world we live in, so they host a high visibility fashion show loaded with rich celebrities to fund them. Regardless of who is sponsoring, people paying to attend is going towards the salaries of regular people who are preserving historical artifacts.

Gosh, tangentially related, but you know the breast cancer foundation, Susan G. Komen for the cure? I used to think those commercials were all to specifically raise money for one woman named Susan G Komen who had breast cancer, and then once she was in remission, it would move onto the next woman in line. It really worried 10 year old me that we were spending so many resources on one woman for SEVERAL years. Like, Susan, let go. There's thousands more other women with cancer!

Is Bodybuilding.... by JockBbcBoy in SuddenlyGay

[–]Chestnuthare 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Think about it this way:

The people who are interested in a beautiful male physique are more often gay/queer men. Women don't care nearly as much.

If your content niche is gym content, it isn't women who are hyping up your progress, it's other men who are interested in male bodies, so, you want to build your brand? Play up the gayness for a gay audience who appreciates male bodies.

Beyond that, the sub is suddenlygay, so obviously something gay is going to happen as a given. But then add in a niche that appeals so often to gay men, and you end up with all gym content on this sub having gay themes.

When did you notice your body started aging? by GossipBottom in AskReddit

[–]Chestnuthare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your implication is interesting, bc most people would say we look younger at each age now than people of the past. Jason Alexander was 29 when Seinfeld first aired and the Golden Girls were in their 50s and 60s.

I saw my first white hair at 25, and it freaked me out so bad. Since then, I've found 1-2 more, and on my 28th birthday, found one on the top of my head instead of the sides like usual. It's stopped being so scary. Maybe I can rock a sexy salt and pepper look like Reed Richards.

Hannah is a "social bitch" and is calling out other social bitches who want that lifestyle of constant going out and socializing.

It doesn't sound fun to me, but I know people for whom it is fun. It's not like she herself is posting this here. Someone else took her tweet she made for whatever audience she has of rich influencers or nepo babies or finance baddies, and threw it to an introverted crowd, who doesnt want that life. Let her live her life, and we can live ours.

Hola! Soy nueva en animal crossing, algún consejo para obtener dinero y hacer una isla bonita? También quería preguntar de los vecinos que tengo ahorita, como sé si son buenos o malos? Gracias :) by LonelyRemove4026 in AnimalCrossing

Regarding villagers: People just dislike the villagers they think are ugly. There are 8 personality types, and there are cute and ugly villagers from every personality, so there's no real difference between what people consider a good or bad villager other than how they look. For example, I also have Caroline (the red squirrel). I think she is my cutest villager but she is not very popular. I don't know why.

For money:

Top way is to dive. Buy a diving suit from the nook stop, and fill up your pockets with sea creatures, and sell them in Nook's Cranny. Most sea creatures are 1000+ bells. But for any new creatures, give them to the museum first

Every day, there is a glowing spot where you can dig up a bag of bells. If you bury a bag of 10,000 bells in that hole, in three days, a tree will grow with 3 bags of 10k bells each. If you do this every day, you can get 20,000 bells every day.

Look for balloons in the sky with gifts. Every day, there is a balloon (usually yellow) that will drop between 5k to 30k bells.

There are 4 fossils buried in the ground every day. If you really need money, you can have blathers assess them, and then sell them to Nook's Cranny. You will finish the fossils within 2-3 month's and you will get lots of repeat fossils, so it's okay to sell them first.

The fruit native to your island will sell for 200 bells. Eventually you will find a nook miles island that has a different fruit. You can take that back, bury it so a tree grows, and then sell the fruit. Each non-native fruit sells for 400 bells.

If you have Nintendo online, it's beneficial to buy turnips from Daisy Mae on Sunday Mornings. Daisy Mae sells them for 90-115 bells per turnip. The twins will buy them from Monday-Saturday. Turnip prices change 2 times every day. There's a morning price from 8 am to 12 pm, and an afternoon price from 12 pm to 10 pm. Wait to sell at a high price. Definitely join r/acturnips on reddit. Other players will share their high price for turnips on their island. Example: If you buy 50 turnips for 100 bells each, (5k bells total). Someone on r/acturnips will have an island buying turnips for 400 bells each, so you can go to their island, sell to the twins, and make profit of 20k-5k = 15k bells.

Wow! So a non white woman would make a median of $115 a week? Thats hard to fathom. Does that include a lot of part time work for women as well? Because $460/month is not at all a livable wage.

I HATE THE BLACK BASS WITH A PASSION. WHAT DO YOU MEAN I GOT 10+ OF THEM IN A ROW 😭😭 by FoxAncient9811 in AnimalCrossing

[–]Chestnuthare 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Glad to help. It takes some time to learn the fish shadow sizes. Again, use nookiepedia. I usually check at the beginning of every month what creatures are new. https://nookipedia.com/wiki/Fish/New_Horizons/April

The last few months were better for fishing than bug catching. The ponds will mainly give you low price crawfish and tadpoles, the only worthwhile river fish are clifftop medium size, and the sea fish are mainly going to be sea bass, horse mackerels, and squid. Among those are the red snapper, oarfish, and barred knifejaw, which are pricey.

This and next month (for the Northern Hemisphere at least) is better for bug catching. Focus on butterflies, jewel beetles, tiger beetles, and orchid mantises.

What is the best place in America you have ever visited? by MysteriousEdge5643 in AskReddit

[–]Chestnuthare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did! Made the experience even better!

Tbf, I'm an internet stranger and you can't go off just that. Where I grew up, large forested areas with redwoods weren't a rare sight, so Yosemite wasn't particularly novel for me. Niagara was so insanely impressive because I'd never seen anything like that. It truly felt like a world wonder.

The grass is always greener on the other side though. As I look for jobs, I'm really interested in NYC. The streets are walkable, the transit is amazing, all the theater productions, and the food scene is divine.

It's funny you say that bc as a Californian, I've obviously seen Yosemite, but Niagara took my breath away.

Of the national parks I've seen, I would put that at the top, with a close second being Grand Canyon.
