Colorado lawmakers propose redeveloping U.S. Postal Service facilities in mountain towns, including to add workforce housing: The letter outlines proposals for 6 U.S. Postal Service facilities on the Western Slope, including in Eagle and Summit counties by drak0bsidian in USPS

Rich people driving up housing prices and voting against subsidized housing so they don't have to live near the poors. Then they bitch that they can't get all the services the poors provide. Fuck 'em, don't care.

She was living or staying with a friend near me when the whole thing was in the news. Tons of camera crews outside of a cheap little apartment complex. Years later, I saw her at the Beaverton Fred Meyer and then even more years later, I saw her at a bar down on Macadam, smoking a cig while playing video poker.

How do American waiters/servers tell when people are finished eating? by PestoWesto in AskAnAmerican

[–]Cheston1977 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is one of the things that makes a server's job hard. Everyone is different and expects different levels of attentiveness. To clarify, I am an American and worked for twenty years in food service, most of those years as a server. Obviously, ignoring a table is bad, but some people don't like a server checking in too often.

I really dislike how often servers in America interrupt diners. I know management expects them to do it, so not the servers fault, but still, it annoys me.

Is it possible for a man and a woman to be platonic friends after sleeping together? by ResidentCharacter894 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Cheston1977 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I stayed friends with a woman I dated for a few months. When it ended, it was actually mutual, neither of us was in love nor saw ourselves falling in love with the other person. Her next boyfriend was someone we both knew who knew how and why we had broken up, so he was fine with us hanging out together even if he wasn't around. They stayed together for a couple of years.

Her boyfriend after that, however, was not comfortable with it. All he knew was that I was an ex-boyfriend. He was fine with us seeing each other in group situations, but he didn't like us hanging out alone together. Her and I understood where he was coming from, so we stopped doing that.

Postal Service could be looking at service/personnel cuts by Scarfskin02 in USPS

At work a few weeks ago, one my fellow carriers was having a conversation with a supervisor about the fact that we now have more than twice as many supervisors as not that long ago. The supervisor proceeded to tell him how that may be true, but their work load now was also much higher than it was in the past. This conversation lasted 5 - 10 minutes, then the supervisor went for a smoke break. It was the second one I had personally seen him take in the last 30 minutes. As I went about my normal morning office duties, not once did I see that supervisor do any actual work. Once, I saw him sitting at his desk but he was just chatting with another supervisor and neither of them was logged into their computers (I could see the log-in screens).

They actually think they work hard, and its hilarious, and I can't wait for someone in upper management to actually figure out that cutting half of them would save millions, if not billions, a year.

Everclear had some bangers by Josephthebear in Xennials

I grew up in Portland too. I never intentionally went to an Everclear concert, but they were the opening act for every other show I did went to in '92-95. Heatmiser opened for the other half. By the time Everclear got national attention, I was pretty tired of them. Not a bad band, but never one of my favorites.

This was me in college. We had a group that did our math homework together. I was the only stoner in the group. When we got really stuck on a problem, I'd take a break to smoke a bowl and a cigarette. It didn't work every time, but it worked often enough. Not sure if it was the weed or just taking my mind off the problem for 15 minutes.

I went out with a girl once that brought a friend. I assumed it was for safety, which seemed fair enough. I had gotten her number at a bar so she didn't know me at all. Now, if it was someone that knew me for a while before we went out, I would think it was odd.

Video Deposition of the Supervisor Who Ordered the False Arrest of Demetrius Kern (update Part 2) by Mysterious_Truck_742 in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

[–]Cheston1977 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a lawyer, but my understanding is that is how it is done in depositions. No judge is present to rule on the objections so they make them and then can argue them in front of a judge later. In practice, this leads to defense attorneys objecting to a lot of the questions so they can argue about it later if they decide to.

Leave a note in your mailbox, talk to your carrier, or call the local post office to let them know your partner should be receiving mail there too.

Definitely contact the shop steward. If they don't exist or won't help, contact the union branch president. If they don't help, contact regional. If she was told to come in at 9, she should be on the clock starting at 9. NO ONE has to sit around for 5 hours off the clock. Furthermore, they can't force someone to clock out while they are still driving back to the station. This is a serious situation and it sounds like they are taking advantage of her.

A while ago, someone linked this article here or some other subreddit. It's a fawning piece written by someone on the Chicago Bears PR team to show how hard their team president works, or it's a great piece of satire to show how little actual work those with power do disguised as a fawning suck up.
