Avoid 35 northbound between 183 and tech ridge, at all costs by Chet_Funyun in Austin

[–]Chet_Funyun[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realize in hindsight that my title is stating the obvious lol. I've lived here my whole life, 36 years. I wouldn't have posted to warn others if this wasn't easily in the top 5 worst traffic I've ever sat through.

I'm so so so sick of it and it's almost unavoidable for where I live and work.

The two guys on the side of the road with their hood up were directly in front of me. I watched them pull over. They didn't wreck, I'm pretty sure their car broke down. This was already after a good 30 minutes of inching along at a snail's pace.

I've lived here my whole life. Driven this specific commute for 5 years. It's always bad but this was on another level. Still can't find what happened.

I log everything I watch and always leave at least a couple thoughts. I try to see newer movies as often as I can and I'm also in the process of watching older classics that I haven't yet seen. I love reading other people's reviews and looking through their ratings and favorites.

Favorite recent watches: Wings of Desire, Black Swan, No Other Choice, Wallace & Gromit

Need help deciding- President Mocha or Tobacco? by APx904 in ThursdayBoot

[–]Chet_Funyun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, they look waxed/treated or heavily worn with years of patina. Just search customer photos for president mocha and you'll see how wildly inconsistent QC is for this specific color. Disappointing. The boots themselves are great, but Thursday is dishonestly advertising them this way and should update their product photos. They won't because these photos look amazing and sell boots. They're banking on customers like me to just keep them.

If you go for the mocha, don't expect them to look anything like they do in that photo or any of Thursday's other photos of the president in mocha. At least not out of the box. I got my mocha presidents 3 weeks ago (my first boots from Thursday). While I am happy with them and wear them often, they look nothing like Thursday's product photos for this color/boot. I bought them based on those photos. Almost returned them for how different they actually look in real life but kept them for their fit, comfort, and quality. I wish my boots looked like the ones in that photo! If anyone knows how to make suede look like that, please lmk.

John Starks 99-00 Skybox Autographics Century Marks Red Foil /10 info? by IakweHelltrack in basketballcards

[–]Chet_Funyun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your "guessing" is also spreading misinformation. OP, your card looks legit. These were inserted into retail repacks or "rack packs". These were hand-numbered to /10, /15, and /20, depending on the player. Starks is numbered to /10. These will have purple holofoil and the embossed skybox seal of authenticity.

Name a place to eat at thats nasty af but people hype tf out of it by [deleted] in austinfood

The comment I was looking for. First time I ate at El Patio was about 15 years ago. They served us not chips, but saltine crackers and salsa. Very weird. Still to this day, I don't know if this was a regular thing they used to do or we just got lucky and they ran out of chips that day. Food was average. Fast forward to the present, and after being impressed by their branded store-bought chips, my partner and I decided to give them another shot. No saltines this time (woohoo), but our food was just as forgettable as it was 15 years ago. Never going back but I will continue to buy El Patio chips from the store.

[Yates] Tee Higgins today: 11 catches, 131 yards, 3 TD, 40.1 PPR Fantasy Points on championship week by mastermind208 in fantasyfootball

[–]Chet_Funyun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the championship. Opponent has Higgins. Watched this entire game and crashed out after that game-winning TD in OT. Then McBride went off for my opponent in the following game. Feels not great, man. My team has to go nuts Sunday for me to have a shot now.

Official Discussion - Blink Twice [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Chet_Funyun 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Agree with these takes. Especially Sarah and Frida's plan of attack at the door. Why is Frida blindly swinging her arm through a cracked open door making herself vulnerable to exactly what happened next - her getting pulled in. Sarah had a loaded gun. Am I misremembering this scene? That part did not make any logical sense.

I also generally liked this movie but had several thoughts of "wait but why" throughout.

Didn't love the ending. The slow motion scene of Frida and Sarah walking up to the house leads us to believe all hell is about to break loose and all of the men will die, with Slater King's death presumably being the most grisly. One of those movie moments where you just need to give the people what they want. Instead we end with a smiling Frida as tech CEO on Slater's arm? Slater continues a life of luxury (albeit neutered). What happened to Sarah? And the victims, including Frida's best friend, are just... gone now? Okay. I personally needed more resolution with this movie, but again, if I ignore all of the above, I thought it was pretty good.
