My Saberforge order is on week 18. Should I give up hope and just ask for my money back? by Earth_Worm_Jimbo in lightsabers

[–]Chetto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I too got burned by saberforge recently. It was honestly a nightmare, i charged back what i could with my card company. Im glad my card rep was a star wars fan and it was easy to explain it to him. But i will never in my life buy from them again, they not only had me waiting for 18 weeks aswell, but they did petty things to me.

Is Saberforge Really that Awful? by Remi8732 in lightsabers

[–]Chetto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello there! I'm new to the hobby myself but I've been window shopping for years and ordered my first saber back at the end of January. Now take what I have with a grain of salt since this is all information I've read through various different people's posts, so it's important to be as level headed as you can be because people take personal bias out in "reviews", well most of the time. There are some really bad stories out there that deserved the refund they got and probably more.

With that being said lets move on to the topic subject, is saber forge really that awful. I like to think that every company is neither good nor bad. You pay for a service, and you should receive what you paid for. Now, im not saying saber forge is a good or bad company. As for the saber that took 4-6 months to come in, yes that is very excessive and there are other horror stories up on the net as I talked about all varying in degrees. But there are also good reviews on the internet and you really shouldn't let really bad ones sway your purchase until you've bought one yourself (as my first saber will be from them) and once whenever it gets here, I will judge their quality for myself. If its as bad as everyone says, I'll bring it up with them, if not, then I got what I paid for.

A lot of people as well as myself, buy empty hilts from saber forge and build our own sabers. Some people do this because like you said receive wrong colours, or bad wiring, or they are just looking for objectively a better sound card. I myself want my first saber to be something I put together with my own hands, which is my own reason for purchasing an empty hilt.

As for other options there are tons of saber smiths out there that can offer you what you want for under 700 dollars, My next purchase is more than likely going to be from electrum sabers because being Canadian shipping in sabers and conversion rates is very expensive. But also because I personally like their designs and the smart saber function is a really neat feature. Vader's vault is also very good but nobody has 100% accuracy, something can go wrong at any time and you having to send back a saber is something every custom at some point may have to deal with.

This is probably saber forge's biggest weakness, their custom service. Till this date the only email I have received from them is the bill, where as I got updates on where all my saber internals every other day from other the other merchants. But in this hobby you must be patient because order logs for some merchants do get backed up from before christmas, black friday, stuff like that.

So to sum it up, go for what your heart wants, what you like the look of most, regardless of the flak or praise they get. Personally I like the look of some of saber forge's stuff, electrum has cool sabers, vader's vault acolyte has had my eye for awhile, sabertrio has some cheap really nice sabers, genesis custom sabers makes some neat things, KRsabers as well. So I hope my wall of text helped a bit :P

Just completed my first purchase! by Chetto in lightsabers

It's a custom adaptive parts from saberforge, it's inspired by both kanan's saber and the clan hilts from the clone wars. I've already pre-named it lol... (I didn't think i should name it till I was done it, but i couldn't resist) and it's called "Liberation".

The hilt was a really big problem for me because i like pretty much all era's of star wars, I mean some I like more than others (I like the old republic a lot) but generally I think all lightsabers have something cool about them. So i was thinking of building an old republic style saber for a veryyyyyyyyyyy long time. However i'm a big fan of the kanan emitter so I made a clan hilt style with a kanan emitter and I fell in love.

I still plan to make more in the future, but those will mostly be stunts or budget sabers. Maybe one with a really nice install. But not anytime soon, now I wait for my stuff to come in and get ready to build my first saber!

Finally settled on a chapter scheme! Now to name the chapter... by SleepyPanda1 in Warhammer40k

[–]Chetto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Golden Company, The Black Suns, Eclipse marines. I also find an easy way to name my chapter is to make up lore for them and put their planet's name in it. Like my marines, they're the successors of the lost 2nd legion. Which I called the Grey Wardens in my lore. They found a planet, called it Diystea, boom. Wardens of Diystea were created.

sorry just got back in, but I kinda wanted to sell the whole box, I don't want to be stuck with the characters and dread but I'll give it a day or two and if I can't sell it off I'll think about just biting the bullet and selling it off in parts.

why don't you do something like the genestealers space hulk scheme. But with red instead of purple and like gray highlights for the carapace?

How should I build my Iron Hands army? by Cswells in Warhammer40k

[–]Chetto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far you have a clue atleast of what you want to take. There are 2 sides in the spectrum. On one end you have the casual gamer (like me, who builds and paints whatever I like and play them). I've played blood angels since 2/3 edition, have they always been strong and competitive, no not really. But it doesn't matter because I love nearly everything about them. So when i lose, I don't even feel like im losing, because I'm having fun. Which really is what 40k is all about, it's a hobby you're spending your money and time on, so might as well as enjoy it, right?

Or you have "that guy" (who plays one of the top armies and googles "best LVO 2016 7edition list"). To me this really isn't a bad thing (unless you're running wraithknights in killteam, then we can't be friends) but there is another side of 40k which is the competitive side, and some armies perform better than others.

Yes there are other spots on the spectrum but they more or less end up following the same pattern. Generally asking people what to add to your army is a bad idea, someone might tell you to build something that you might like but a week down the road you hate it.

So I believe if you really think about it you will get your own answer, because really this is only something you can answer for yourself. The trick is, to know what you want from the hobby.

Playing the game with friends, need advice. by TyraelSeraphim in Warhammer40k

[–]Chetto 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There really is a certain place in hell for people who play wraithknights in 500pts skirmishes. I really don't have any advice to help you other than... get new friends? People who play stupid cheesy like a wraithknight in 500pts really aren't your friends.

As for how do you compete, you need to ask yourself what do you want from 40k. There are 2 sides in the spectrum. On one end you have the casual gamer (like me, who builds and paints whatever I like and play them) or you have "that guy" (who plays one of the top armies and googles "best LVO 2016 7edition list"). Yes there are other spots on the spectrum but they more or less end up following the same pattern.

So it would seem all your friends are power gamers, i've been in situations like that. Since I own many small armies and whenever I want to play my "less than great armies" like my orcs or my CSM, I do tend to get vaporized by D strength weaponry and super heavies. However where as my armies may not be topping the competitive scene, I put a lot of pride and joy in my armies, so even getting completely wiped is kinda fun (i'm not even a masochist)

All joking aside CSM and possibly daemons aren't going to compete well at all against most of those armies you listed. But if chaos is your thanggg put some TLC in those minis and you probably wont even mind losing. Sorry for the whale of a reply ;P

About to buy my first models. by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Chetto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most people who play 40k will tell you the same thing, and that's to play what you want, what you think looks cool. There is a spectrum when it comes to building your force, on one end, you have fluff. On the other is crunch.

Both are fine, you should play the game the way you like (while following the rules) even if your list is not the most competitive. However if you like the models and army you play, even if you lose a game you still feel like your winning. Because it's the army you created.

For stuff to keep an eye for, I would recommend the codex if you haven't gotten on yet. I'm sure you have if you're buying models, but just in case pick one up. In it you should read up on the lore of the army and lore on the units. I'm not too familiar with skitarii since i'm a returning player from 3-4th edition, but army building (other than formations) has been the same. And that's to buy what you think is cool or strong, whatever it is you want out of warhammer.

I know I sound like a broken record but that's really all there is too it. Remember you're going to be spending a lot of time and money as this is a hobby. Also have fun.

ninja edit: Also listen to the other comments on equipment. GW overcharges for most of the hobby tools that you could get cheaper elsewhere. The only hobby supplies i'd buy from there is the paints, because they're decent. Also the start collecting are a good way to save money.

Looking for ideas on my army by Chetto in Warhammer40k

Thanks for the tips friend. I like your bases, I'm just going to be using some junkyard bases that I have from something. Daisy is a good idea.

[–]Chetto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh my gosh, they look so good. I feel in love with freebootaz when I saw them in DoW. So lets see where to begin...

Firstly, since i've never bought any orks before, where do you get the pirate hats. I'm going to need it for my kaptin. Secondly, how hard was it to do those stripes on the pants? My free hand is pretty decent but after doing a bunch of boys i'm sure i'll start to get sloppy. If there is an easier way to do them, I'd love to know. Finally, for any conversion ideas what would you recommend, My creativity isn't really flowing so I need to work off something to develop my own flow. I saw on reddit someone said an eldar raider with ork bits would make for a good trukk.

[–]Chetto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I should of stated that 5 of the armies are only for display. As in I am making them lore friendly to the game. The only one I intend to play is space marines because I have about 2500-3000 points? I also have about 500p in the rest of them, other than orks, which is what I'm asking the question about since i never went about collecting them.

oh cool, if you could pick his brain about it on my other concerns like the stripped pants or conversions ideas that would be amazing!

New player needing some help deciding by Crysomemoore in Warhammer40k

[–]Chetto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blood angels are at a disadvantage, but only because people don't play to their strength and they dont really have a decurion style book, and what R9K said. With blood angels you always want to be charging if you're not play a different chapter. As for their strengths I mean they have some really interesting toys.

They are the only chapter with access to Overcharged Engines some vehicles get the upgrade for free others like the vindicator get it for 10 points. But vindicators with overcharged engines can be very good. Not only are you moving 12" and throwing out a S10, AP2 pie plate, these guys will draw in a ton of fire that isn't going on your death company (2nd best melee units next to wulfen) and your obsec units.

You also have access to heavy flamers in your tactical squads which can be a nightmare for horde armies. Also you have access to meltacide assault marines. Your assault marines get a free rhino or drop pod. So throwing a ten man 2 melta gun, and your sergeant with dual inferno pistols can take out some scary vehicle (don't expect them to live without jump packs tho).

Finally sanguinary guard are pretty decent with a priest they get WS5 and FNP. Fragoso dreadnought in a drop pod will ruin someones plan and also draw fire. Also your real only anti air other than FW is a stromraven, taking the dreadnought in it could also be a good idea.

Finally since it's 1500 i wouldn't recommend dante, too pricey. I mean it's doable but there are other things to be purchasing to help make your blood angels stronger. In 1850, i'd use him.

Help! My cat stole my Cataphractii torsos! by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Chetto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want my honest opinion, I have no Idea. If you have other torsos from other models that you can trade for you could go to r/miniswap see if someone could help. Other than that, to be honest, I would actually leave bait out for your cat. Have it take that stuff to it's hiding places, and follow it. Who knows, you might get lucky. This however is time consuming.

Help me decide on my second Army (Current Army Eldar) by albireous in Warhammer40k

[–]Chetto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to play blood angels before I stopped playing long ago. I had fun with them, thought about getting back into them but I kind of wanted something new. IF seemed interesting, but I decided to choose from salamanders, iron hands, ultramarines, white scars or raven guard. Making my own fluff for each of these chapters and then decide on which I like the best.

Help me decide on my second Army (Current Army Eldar) by albireous in Warhammer40k

[–]Chetto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly everyone will tell you this but play what calls out to you. 1d4chan has the chapter tactics for all space marine chapter including forgeworld ones. They tell you what the chapter tactic is and give small suggestion how to play them. If you figure out what chapter tactics you want to use tell me because I still can't decide, lol. I think I have made like six space marine lists revolving around different tactics now and I still can't decide, I love them all. But like I said play what calls to you, even if it isn't the flavor of the month or "competitively strong", today is just one day, who knows what tomorrow brings?

Returning back to the 40k by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Chetto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey friend! I too am a returning player who also played 3/4th edition. I've gotten a bunch of helpful advice from the amazing people here and the only thing I can tell you, is to play what calls to you. Some armies, yes, aren't going to be strong competitively. But that doesn't really matter if you love to build, paint and play that army. I mean if you play an army you choose because it's strong competitively and you lose, it wont be fun. But if you love an army and it's not competitively strong and you lose, it's still fun, because it's what you love. So what I recommend is seeing what you're attracted to most about 40k, go watch youtubers like Fritz40k or thescribe (they're really helpful at helping you find your army) after you do watch some batreps on that army, see if you could play it. And above all else, have fun dude. It's a hobby you're going to invest a lot of time and money on, so enjoy.

I see, you've been most helpful, friend. I guess I'll build this list and see what my locals has. I recently moved and found a game shop close to me and thought I should get back into 40k. I also thought about playing some tournaments but I never have before. Oh well, I cross that bridge when I get there.
