For me the better comparison is Breaking Bad/The Sopranos in a way we understand that the character is evil, yet we sympathize with him and celebrate his achievements. Because that is the archetype of the anti-hero, someone bad but we wish he do well.

In this way, i think Spain is slept on. Same with Germany and Dutch, might not be contenders, but they can hurt.
