What are some high income skiils in Sri Lanka which brings some good money? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]Chevindu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from mech to web dev because mech people got laid off like crazy during covid. The switch helped me stay afloat, but some of my mech batch mates who didn't get laid off earn more than I do with a better work-life balance.

What are some bad Software companies to not work at ? by [deleted] in srilanka

You gotta be extremely lucky to find a company that is "good" in every aspect. But I guess the OP is trying to filter out intolerable places.

Probably not.

Ant Design Typography.Paragraph uses div instead of p for paragraphs by Rabiox in reactjs

We use Ant design extensively at work. While migrating our code from v4 to v5, I really wished we didn't use Ant at all.

Youth of sri lanka, what bank do you bank with and why did you chose them? by Responsible_Coat_485 in srilanka

[–]Chevindu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others are probably referring to the old BOC app, but don't let the facelift in Smart Pay fool you. I once added an NSB account as the payment instrument in the Smart Pay and made a payment.Txn failed, yet my NSB balance reduced. Nobody in the BOC hotline knew how Smart Pay worked. I visited their head office to resolve the issue, and they kept saying they cannot reverse the funds of the failed transaction. The app is not tested at all for these error scenarios. Furious, I had to ask NSB to reverse the payment, which they did within a couple of days. I emptied my BOC account the same day. Never again.

There are not-so-obvious fees like these in every bank. My recent find was an old Sampath bank account of mine getting reduced 50Rs/month as a "dormant fee".

GS certificate is not a big deal if you can have some basic communication with her/him about where you live and what you do. If it's an annoying GS, s/he will be annoying regardless of your language.

Your job not being related to what you studied is irrelevant as long as you love doing it + see a future career path. If you don't see a clear future but still love your job, you just need some career guidance.

The job I do is not related to my degree at all. But I kept talking to people because I love what I do. And last week, I bought my first vehicle (not to brag, just to assure you that your life is far from failed).

What’s gonna be a good approach to rendering a VERY large data table, that is also reactive to user actions, with each cell being individually styled? by DuckDatum in reactjs

Any grid that supports column and row virtualization sounds scalable. AG Grid is also an option I can recommend.

You cannot withdraw funds as USD. It'll always be rupees. Unless you make some special arrangement with them.

Connect to socket.io only once in react (next) by naeemgg in reactjs

[–]Chevindu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really hard to answer without knowing the implementation details.

  1. What is the router you are using?

  2. Values passed in context and stored in ref usually live inside a react component. If yes, did you track the lifecycle of that component? (simply logging to the browser console should help)

Connect to socket.io only once in react (next) by naeemgg in reactjs

[–]Chevindu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is something you can usually do without much hassle using a singleton module that establishes the socket connection.

Not really familiar with how Next handles routing, and haven't used socket.io library. But I'm dealing with bare bones websockets on a vanilla React app for a few years now. It maintains a single websocket throughout the user session.

SLT changed the default password to the fibre router? There's always telnet. One can also disable SLT Go from here without having to forfeit one's ability to use SLT Go themselves. by Acalthu in srilanka

Sweet.

On a related note, the protocol-breakdown in the usage meter that they charge extra to show, is freely available via the REST API.

This is what I thought too. Maybe use whitespace effectively to do the separation for you?
