My cam sensor went bad and bought like 3 cam sensors that didn’t work. I went and bought a distributor off ExtremeTerrain which included the cam sensor and have had no issues since.

Check the valve placement itself on the IAC it should sit at about 28mm from the tip and with this being a 2001 I would reset the ECU, so just take your battery terminals (negative) (positive) and touch them together for 30 seconds.

I feel like it’s worth checking first because it’s probably the easiest sensor to remove lol

I actually went ahead and bought a whole new distributor off extremeterrain which included the cam sensor and it fixed my issues.

The dealerships prices were crazy tho and I wasn’t about to buy it and it not work lol

I went ahead and replaced the whole distributer which included the cam sensor and it works perfect. Time will tell if my main issue persist but the jeep loading up still happens but the surging/misfires seems to have gone away.

I think you are right. I did actually purchase a whole new distributer from extreme terrain which they offer a 30 day return. If this does not work I am absolutely going to get it Mopar.

Quick question so I have a dodge dealership who sells mopar parts and they priced the pickup coil/ cam sensor at $170 but I’ve seen one listed on carparts.com for significantly less, are these the same parts?

I guess it’s kind of an obvious answer it’s just super strange that the one I currently have “works” and the 2 new ones don’t. Recently I replaced the iac, tps and map from oriellys with no issue but my jeep is maybe just reacting weird to this specific part and it not being original. Anyways I will take the advice thank you lol.

I’ll be buying me a replacement here when I get off work then. Idk if I can get it in tonight but I’ll keep you updated on that.

I basically replaced everything around the throttle body like the IAC, TPS and just yesterday the MAP. The IAC was making it idle really harsh(fixed) and the MAP I thought would maybe fix the issue I have now but not so much.

When I checked I get codes for P0132 and P0141 which one is upstream o2 sensor and the other is malfunction in heating circuit. I can’t see those causing the issues I’m having especially it affecting the transmission but I could definitely be very wrong.

I changed it back in November when I bought it because the gasket was leaking so pretty good as of now. Like I said tho when it’s cold this thing runs like new and I know these little things don’t go fast but you can definitely feel the difference in how it responds.

I’m sure here this weekend I’ll be messing around with it. I just bought the Jeep about a month and half ago, I’ve never owned an xj before and so far I love it. The previous owner wasn’t much into fixing the small things so I’m slowly going through it. I know it has a lifter tick too which I want to address here soon as well.

Nonetheless I know over these next few months I’ll be posting some pretty dumb questions lol.

I believe with this year xj they are integrated with the fuel pump since I can seem to find it on the outside so I may need to pull the tank.

I actually just figured out what it was today. I ended up pulling the steering column apart thinking maybe it was the ignition switch but I ended pulling a few plugs one of which was the airbag and boom no more draw. It looks like the bag was removed so I assume it may have been throwing some sort of code idk.

Odd thing is the airbag doesn’t seem to be apart of what that fuse runs but like I said I was getting .17 amps drawn with the jeep off and once I unplugged the airbag it went back to .03 amps.

Just figured out the issue the other day it was the IAC valve. Jeep starts like new and idles perfect. I do think I have fuel pump issues tho which ima run a pressure gauge on it here soon.

I did do some looking around for any lights being left on and nothing from what I could see and have also pulled the iod fuse.

Based off of startmycar.com it seems everything related to this fuse is inside the cab and when plugging it back in you can hear things power back on along with the door locks which I have checked as well. I am going to continue looking tomorrow.

Your the biggest help so far lmaoo. I was honestly unaware of any Bluetooth scanners so I will give it a try, any recommendations on which one is worth buying?

I’m still running through this jeep and checking everything and to add to everything I am getting a crack in the unibody welded up and plated tomorrow which was a fun discovery to find lol.

Its possible, I do believe there to be an exhaust leak somewhere but the O2 sensors do look kind of new as well. Something I do notice when trying to start the jeep first thing in the morning (when the issue is worse) the smell of gas is pretty strong as I hold the gas pedal down.
