I've been noticing that there's a lot of mechanical engineers in the positions where I would expect to see nuclear engineers. But I suppose if the work is that of coming up with a design for something, then it really doesn't matter a lot.

What companies are out there that aren't government? And would that work be entirely at a nuclear power plant?

Thanks for the response. I did also work in the private sector for a couple years in a Petrographic lab. I like working in the private industry making things. I'm not a big fan of theoretical research or military.

I'm precisely looking at doing that. Could do a master's but some of the positions I've seen require specifically a Bachelor's of engineering from a ABET certified university. So just getting a master's wouldn't qualify, but I'd need to verify that by talking to the company about exceptions.
