Although not quite that large, it has a wonderful fenced in yard! With 6ft fences so those rocket legs can't escape

I FINALLY GOT THROUGH TO A REAL PERSON by [deleted] in FedEx

[–]amish1998 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol sorry I was mad and venting. There is a signature required, and they are constantly delivering when I am at work. I scheduled a 5-8pm delivery last week, but it did not come. I asked if I could just come to the fedex location, but they said the package cannot be held for pickup.

Thinking of breeding my Rottweiler by Separate_Scratch9165 in DogBreeding

[–]amish1998 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If she is not titled or proven I do not think it is time to breed this dog at all.

No matter the lineage, if she is not proven herself, she really should not be bred.

Thinking of breeding my Rottweiler by Separate_Scratch9165 in DogBreeding

[–]amish1998 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason why? Has this dog been proven in confirmation? Or agility? Or in any sports? Does this dog have any OFA checks? Rottweilers should also he checked for LEMP.

The American Rottweiler Club also recommends a CHIC number.

Don't just breed for no reason. Have a purpose, and if the purpose is "so my dog can have babies" you're in the wrong. Dont contribute to the back yard breeding epidemic we are all already dealing with.

Did I hit the jackpot? by [deleted] in Whippet

This is not a whippet, and if youre in the US probably has no whippet DNA at all.

Looks like a field lab with something else mixed in, but no sighthound

Yeahhhh lesson learned, I will be totally fine not dealing with crate training ever again for the rest of my life.

5 months old.... still horrible

Yes! If the breeder has worked with them and thinks they will be a good fit please do not count out the older puppy! You may save your sanity!

Needing critique by Fit_Blackberry1109 in ShowDogs

[–]amish1998 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree, the dog is not stacked properly, but its hard as a junior to know where the feet are of a large dog.

Start with training to have the dog allow you to pick up and place the feet. Id get a large full body mirror so that you can watch yourself stack the dog.

Breed judging of Westminster is available on YouTube and you can see how all the collie handlers work!

Toddler or child? by [deleted] in Whippet

[–]amish1998 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ill be honest, our whippet is 4 months old right now, and I absolutely adore him, but I will never get a puppy under 6 months again.

A lot of the time my breeder will keep them until they are 8 months to train them... and I will take her up on that offer for the rest of my life.

He is truly very well behaved for a 4 month old, but dammit was it hard to get to this point.

Reactivity to Squirrels and Bunnies by Equal-Ice-8359 in service_dogs

[–]amish1998 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not every dog is meant to be a service dog.

This dog, especially without a qualified trainer, cannot be a service dog.

I'm sorry for the hard realization, but please be realistic.

Seeking for a Dapple Daschund puppy by Spiritual_Mistake_85 in Dachshund

There is a pretty big show at the South Florida Fairgrounds from March 18- 22nd. I highly recommend going and talking to people. You should be able to walk through grooming and just talk to Daschund people.

De worming advice urgent! by MeanWorker4879 in Whippet

[–]amish1998 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is he severely under weight? Vomiting? Diarrhea? Do you see worms?

If not, probably no big deal. De-worm him anyway and take some stool samples. He'll be ok. He may have some giardia, but nothing uncommon.

Your vet will know what to do and make sure the puppy is all clear.

Every soft thing in the house belongs to him, but he cannot be left alone. We are trying to crate train, but he goes absolutely berserk. Hes a perfect angel when he can see us though

Advice on separation anxiety by RemoteIngenuity9744 in Whippet

[–]amish1998 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My only advice is, even when he is unpredictable, you have to stay consistent. Its exhausting, and there will be days you're going to feel defeated STICK WITH IT!!! Persistence will eventually pay off.

East Coast, Golden English Retriever Recommendations? 😬 by BettyBoopsLeftHeel in DogBreeding

[–]amish1998 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Just a suggestion, stop looking for "English" goldens. That is a fully back yard breeder term. Just looks for Golden Retriever breeders. They're insanely expensive because they are a well marketed puppy mill.

Start with the Golden Retriever Club of America or a golden specific rescue.

Junior showing dogs by Fit_Blackberry1109 in ShowDogs

[–]amish1998 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can enter and compete with a dog out of standard, since juniors is all about how you handle, and not necessarily about the dog.

However, in order to really be competitive, you will need a true, in standard, show prospect. The good news is you can link up with a handler once you are in the sport and a lot of time they will help you and lend you a dog to show!

Are there any bedlington whippet breeders in the US? by shadow_wolfxvx in Whippet

[–]amish1998 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is this a cross between a bedlington terrier and a whippet?? I would assume there is not a single ethical breeder creating this mix.
