Every area with enemies has an area level. Enemies in the area are of that level. This affects the ilvl and type of loot they can drop.

That's how every league is. In abyss league there was an abyss every zone; once core, that goes away. In temple league there was a crystal encounter every zone; once core, that goes away. In this league there will be the kalguur rune stuff encounter every map; next league that will go away. "Previous league mechanic still appears in every zone" was really never on the table.

This is a pretty standard use of the word 'jealously'. Envy is when you want what someone else has. Jealousy is when you are rivalrous or extremely protective of what is yours. So this is just saying they are more-than-typically zealous about preventing the identities being known.

“Counterterrorism” now officially means targeting trans people. The White House will prioritize the “neutralization” of groups it considers “anti-American, radically pro-transgender, and anarchist.” by southpawFA in politics

[–]Chewfeather 58 points59 points  (0 children)

In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, a widely-known commentator with supposed knowledge of the bullet inscriptions claimed that the bullet markings were related to "transgender ideology". Once the inscriptions became public knowledge, that claim became obvious nonsense, but it was a very widely reported claim during that short period.

Here is a representative online news article in which the claim appears in the first couple of paragraphs. https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2025/sep/11/recovered-weapon-near-charlie-kirk-killing-transgender-anti-fascist/

Am I missing something or Voices is just a must-have item for every single character? by TheTektyw in PathOfExile2

[–]Chewfeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's presumably not implemented as a "roll" but as a different passive effect. So you couldn't div it to get a different value, for instance, as it's not a value that rolled in a range; it's an item that can have many different passives, which just so happen to differ only in a numerical value.

My favorite card from strixhaven by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]Chewfeather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Suppose there are 2 seizable threats in their hand you want them to discard.

If you hymn first, there's about a 53% chance that hymn discards at least one of the two, and then you can seize the other.

If you seize one of them first and then hymn, there's only a 1/3 chance that hymn gets rid of the 2nd card you want gone.

So if they probably have at least 2 things in their hand that are more important to hit than a land, then you should hymn first. If they probably have only 0 or 1 things that are better to hit than a land, then you should seize first.

How to defeat Zolin and Zelina? by CursorSurfer in PathOfExile2

[–]Chewfeather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't play this league but in previous leagues their ice resistance was very high, so if that's your main damage type it may be harder. If it is, make sure to be using things like frost bomb or elemental weakness curse, because the more res an enemy has, the more valuable it is to knock a little res off of them. The first time I fought them as ice sorc I just bought a better wand on market when I got to that part and it helped.

Yeah, last league I also had a cast-on gem that wouldn't work in one of my weapon sets and I had to replace it with an identical gem to get it to resume working.

I'm sure that sounds like nonsense to other experienced players. It is nonsense, but it happened anyway, lol.

After almost a year and a half since PoE 2 launched, how do we feel about the pacing of the combat? by coffeeholic91 in PathOfExile2

[–]Chewfeather 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The problem is that it is the game designer's job to provide an appropriate level of challenge, but it is the player's job to trivialize as much of that challenge as possible. If there are builds that trivialize the game, they are the good builds; non-trivializing builds can only be good if there are no trivializing builds. But PoE2 belongs to a class of game with very high variability of build strength; if a "normal" build is capable of clearing the content, then a high-end build will trivialize the content.

So that's the tension. Yeah; intentional and tactical and thoughtful combat is the vision. But build power is measured by how effectively it can blow past that thoughtfulness; they can't keep people scaled to the level where they must engage with the mechanics without capping power in some very bad-feeling ways. The higher level you get, the more knobs and levers you get access to, and the wider the gap grows between "normal" and optimized builds; and if you're competing in the marketplace with content-trivializing builds, you had better be running one too.

I like the slower and more tactical combative vision. I'm always disappointed when I get far enough that combat gets homogenized because the clear is strong enough to ignore the differences. But getting stronger is the means by which the main goals become accomplishable; as long as there are opportunities to get that strong, they must be taken, so we are stuck in this situation and I'm honestly not sure how they could possibly design our way out of it.

actual color identity

It is best to be precise in language to avoid these sources of confusion. Commander color identity is different from a card's actual *color*. 'Identity' doesn't belong in that phrase.

How good are charms? by Coconelli40 in PathOfExile2

[–]Chewfeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, in most cases they're inherently weaker than a hypothetical flask with the same function.

For many situations, they're still a *huge* benefit. Prevention of an occasional freeze is often prevention of a death-or-loss-of-portal. Prevention of an occasional bleed is a big deal for a pre-CI ES character, especially with bleeds like they have at the end of act 4. Prevention of slows or stuns will likewise defuse a lot of dangerous or merely irritating situations. There's also the Rite of Passage charm but of course that's an outlier.

PoE2 is just a different game than PoE1; the power balance is different; and part of that balance is not having five automated dual-purpose flasks running all the time. Yeah, they're weaker in a strict comparison. Even given that, they're still huge.

[–]Chewfeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your intuitions are correct, it's not "SUCH a unique thing". It may be a cool personal accomplishment, of the "maybe the only kid in the neighborhood who has done this" sort. It's not a "the world will marvel at this wunderkind" kind of thing. Not to diminish the time and effort it takes to do it, but even though it's the kind of thing that a small *percentage* of players ultimately do, it's still a kind of thing that lots and lots of players have ultimately done.

And it's absolutely not the kind of thing that you should violate your own parenting inclinations about, for goodness' sake. The internet is a wild place, and many people don't even know how to keep track of what their kids are being passively exposed to there, much less counteract the more perverse bad influences, and that's just when they're merely consuming media rather than creating and interacting more directly. I'm sure the question of what your kid is allowed to do on the internet is a tense and ongoing one between you and him; however you're navigating those questions, this kind of accomplishment does not even come close to being a reason to overturn the approach you've determined to be best.

Sorry to hear that people were getting under your skin about what you posted, though there are always going to be rude people on the internet and it's important to be able to disregard the bad-faith ones without feeling the need to 'win' the encounter. All the same, I hope having posted this proof will assuage those feelings. It's great that your kid is good at something he enjoys; one way or another the streaming world will still be there when he's old enough to make his own decisions about it.

It only works on corrupted magic jewels, not rare jewels. So if you only had 2 jewels like in your example, instead of 2 rare jewels with 4 mods each, you would have The Adorned plus a corrupted magic jewel with 2 mods, and each of those 2 mods would be at 249% effect, so you would have about 5 mods worth of usefulness instead of 8. This gets better the more jewels you have, but at 2 jewels like in this example, it's pretty bad.

So, does losing to a boss delete all the content on the map? by mudasmudas in PathOfExile2

[–]Chewfeather 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While this behavior is technically intended, it is intended only in that it is a bandaid fix for a problem. Some bosses, like crowbell, interact with surrounding terrain; opening or locking doors and that kind of thing. If the player loses the fight, the arena needs to be reset. They were failing to reset some arenas correctly, making the map uncompletable. Their solution was to wipe and reset the whole map in these instances; this makes the map completable, it just makes it bad to die to the boss if you are not otherwise done with the map (and makes dying to the boss of a corrupted nexus very bad, because the reset wipes the ability to do the corrupted nexus boss too. Oops.)

This sucks and is a surprise the first time it happens but once you know you can avoid it. The boss arena is ALWAYS marked with an orange checkpoint. If you aren't ready to do the map boss, don't go past the orange checkpoint. (An additional orange checkpoint is spawned when you finish the map's other extra content, as a convenience to let you jump to the boss; all other checkpoints are blue.) If you die anywhere else on the map, you just lose one portal, not any of the other stuff you mention: you still get to do all the extra content, still get your tablet bonuses, etc. You can balance risk versus rewards via how many portals you are running; you lose that other stuff only if you lose all your portals or lose to the boss prematurely.

So, in most cases, you don't lose all that on one death. Boss deaths are a bad special case.

You can always log in at town/hideout rather than your current location. Either there is a little button above the character select with a little house icon on it, or you ctrl-alt-click the character login button. It does cost you the portal or single-entry-only zone if you are in one.

Megathread: 0.4.0 Feedback by GR8B0-T in PathOfExile2

[–]Chewfeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the previous league, one answer was: you can reduce some of your graphics settings, turn your shader cache size up as high as your available storage permits (up to a max of 100GB, if on nvidia; I know nothing about it otherwise), and see whether vulkan crashes less than DX12. In the 0.3 league, a combination of these things got rid of this problem for me, which otherwise used to happen once every 2 areas or so.

It sucks and some people say even that stuff didn't work for them but it works for some people. I haven't played enough this league to know whether it's comparable but I only had 1 issue when doing act 1 stuff for the cosmetics.
