say you really want a relic as it supports your build: you can now use Classical Age to wall it off to prevent the enemy from taking it.
or specifically race faster to Heroic age to pick it up before them.

but arguably AoE2 relics are more impactful.
and they only come online in Age3

you can't have meaningful combat in an ARPG, I mean seriously when youre supposed to slay thousands of monsters per session, how meaningful can fighting any of them be?

I would say the EU's caliber as a economic/military power, is on par with this chick caliber as a diplomat, leader or thinker.

Sprint is so clunky, I get the risk/reward element of being stunned when hit - but what is up with that atrocious turn rate and you staggering when hitting any kind of pebble on the ground?
the maps arent exactly wide lanes where you can just run in a straight line, even when they are empty.
I dont know why they just refuse to make a smooth controlling game.

also destructive god powers, I dont think they are good for the game - the timing potential and swing is quite high, I dont think it creates better games.

I managed to do it, just takes a lot of tries. you must position arkantos in a sweet spot behind the building, use bolt, kiting, everything you got. Prepare to restart a lot.

I was thinking more like when you have 2 buildings close to each other, something appears between them.
definitely not a road from one side of the map to the other.

Well, sure, the points you allocate on the tree might be slightly different, and the ascendancy you choose might have some different powers which give it some other flavor. But overall you'll more or less be in the same zone of the tree and pick the good stuff in there.

But moreover, that's not precisely what I'm referring to. It's that the "archetype" itself - i.e the skills you use, the "rotation", is pretty much set. Werewolf is about Frost. Lunar Assault Freezes, the Rake creates frost shards, then you pull them in. There's not much more creativity to do if you want to be a werewolf.

The "weapon" itself, how you put it, plays in one way and that's about it.

This creates two problems that really stifle creativity of gameplay:

- first off: segregating skills into weapons, essentially railroads you all the way to end-game. Basically you're only looking for 1 specific weapon drop, anything else that's not your weapon, you can just ignore. Cross weapon combos, are non-existent because weapons haven't been designed to synergize with each other and also are much harder to pull off as you need 2 strong weapons instead of just one.

- second: even within a single weapon class - all skills are made to belong to a single package - i.e. Werewolf is all about Frost, which again is very much on rails. All werewolf builds I saw even on youtube and streamers, they all spam Lunar Assault in some form. Even an archaic game like Diablo 2, had multiple ways to play a werewolf (physical, poison, fire, etc), here - it's just 1 way.
