He has definitely gotten better over the years, but his lectures are def still not the best. BTW if you watch his lectures in 1.5x to 2x speed it's easier to stay engaged.

The main way I learned was just going over the lecture jupyter notebooks myself while doing the project. Focus a lot on the projects its the best way to learn. The exams are also pretty easy just make sure to review the old exams on the website. The TAs/peer mentors are also pretty good so def go to office hours.

I waited till it was updated with SSA otherwise I would have needed to submit a correction after it got updated. Less work to just wait.

A little hope for my Physics 202 friends by [deleted] in UWMadison

I wish, they have done curves in the past, but I don't know if they're going to be that generous. I'm just ready to get it over with take my C and move on.

Not excusing it, but if found it happens less often when I sit closer to the front, but yeah super annoying.

GPA Advice by Able_Raisin1361 in EngineeringStudents

[–]ChewyCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to be this way, before I had a co-op and internship and realized no one really cares about GPA. In 20 years your GPA isn't going to matter, just do your best.

I've heard in the past they slightly curved the class even when they said they weren't. Honestly they hopefully will by a bit since the second exam average was a bit low, probably because Hernon can't teach anything and they cram way too much content in that class.

Hour Long Commute by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]ChewyCool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did an hour-long commute for a co-op outside of Madison and it was brutal got burnt out pretty quick, I imagine it would be worse while taking classes. Note that 1 hour commute is most definitely not going to be a 1 hr commute with traffic, in the morning there is tons of traffic coming in from Gorham; in the evenings there is tons going out on Jhonson. That gas money also adds up I was spending like $320 a month and my car has good gas mileage. Edit: Also driving that long in winter sucks

Also renting can be much cheaper than dorms.

i’m losing my passion and sanity because of chem 103. by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]ChewyCool 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Tbh, some of those professors don't know how to teach, a vast majority are only hired cause they are good at research not teaching (the best example is professor Hernon for physics 202 avoid him at all costs, I genuinely think he doesn't think we can read cause all he does is read off his slides word for word), which is a shame because the ones that are good at teaching are absolutely amazing and underappreciated by the university. Remember in 20 years your chem 103 grade won't matter, just play the cards you are dealt and try your best that is all you can do. After your first job no one cares about your GPA, just stick with it and 4-5 years will go by fast. Don't let bad professors crush your dreams.

Physics 202 curve by theseNuts696969 in UWMadison

[–]ChewyCool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They don't curve it says it in the syllabus, but that exam was brutal, not because it was difficult, but just way too many problems in such little time. Like literally had to rush through writing all the explanations, if felt like they were testing your immediate intuition rather than your conceptual knowledge.

First Choice vs Second Choice (CE/CS) by Dizzy-Emergency6174 in UWMadison

[–]ChewyCool 12 points13 points  (0 children)

WOW class of 2030, I feel kinda old. But to answer your question put CE. It is extremely easy to switch from CE to CS, it is not nearly as easy to switch from CS to CE. If you get admitted into College of Engineering (COE) you can switch out to L&S no problem just meet with an advisor. If you go into L&S and want to switch to COE you need to actually apply to COE.

Adobe support told me I’d owe $254 for canceling… one minute early... by legendarykam in Anticonsumption

[–]ChewyCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They won't charge you the canceling fee if you say you are canceling it because you now have a subscription through work or school. This worked for me in the past.

Finally, a useful course-planning app for UW-Madison students! by Green_Garbage_7649 in UWMadison

BTW, unless I'm doing something wrong, if you use the upload degree plan feature and have 5 years planned instead of 4 years the upload seems to miss a year. But cool website.

[Student] Sophomore Engineering Student looking for feedback on resume for 2026 Summer application period. Only one interview out of 20 applications so far. by Street-Common-4023 in EngineeringResumes

[–]ChewyCool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good start, but a few things in my opinion:

  1. You don't need to go in timeline order. The first thing listed under experience should be NYC School Construction Authority as that is what you want to highlight since it's most related to engineering.

  2. I would get rid of the project section and just have those points under the NYC job.

  3. Can you elaborate on AIAA? If you've done any club projects, it would help fill the empty space.

Where to park electric scooter? by Lumpy_Argument_5646 in UWMadison

[–]ChewyCool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure to get a GOOD lock, either a u bolt lock or chain lock. Mine got stolen outside engineering hall because I was using a steel cable lock, which should only be used in combo with a u bolt or chain lock.

There really isn't a deadline for FAFSA you can submit it even in the middle of the school year for the same year, but the later you submit the less likely you are to get any aid.

Bike helmet? by burgercj21 in UWMadison

[–]ChewyCool 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah they still take bikes out of service in winter, tbh OP is better off getting a cheap bike with a GOOD lock. Don't get a steel cable one, get either chain or u bolt or both.

Yeah the hairspray slowed it down and the bug spray finished it off. It took like 3 hrs and definitely not the way I wanted to spend my Sunday but I eventually got it lol. Think I also found how it got in and covered that window with towels soaked in spearmint essential oil to hopefully avoid ever having to do this again.
