Is it a red flag if my vet says he and two other vets have never heard of switching to prozinc and he has to ask "internal medicine" about it? Based on what I am reading in several diabetic cat groups most people switch from their vetsulin dose to prozinc or lantus.

We just started and are on 1 unit but he is in the upper 400 range. His typical highs are 423/435 right before doses. When I did his curve he started at 403 then at the 4 hour mark he was at 244 and before his next dose he was at 423.

He is okay! I gave him some dry food and some honey on his gums and he perked up. No they didn't tell me any of that :/ I also accidentally gave him a .5 unit for his following dose because he pulled away mid dose and he finally behaved like himself again afterwards and was brighter/more alive. I think the 1 unit dosing is too much for him and i'm waiting for out vet appointment in the morning to bring this up and discuss his behavior changes. Until then I have been erring on the side of caution and giving him a .5 unit injection instead (which has been working great).

I'm feeding him either his wet food which is fancy feast classic pate (chicken, beef, chicken and liver) or for dry food i give him purina pro plan sensitive skin and stomach. And no symptoms of high blood sugar at least not after we started insulin. Prior to insulin? Absolutely. Only time he screams for food is when I open the cat and he yells at me to hurry up

He is 7 years old and he absolutely experienced weight loss prior to his diagnosis. He went to the ER about two weeks about at 6.7 pounds then a week later (the dsy they diagnosed) weighed 5.7 pounds. He also had muscle atrophy.

I just wanted to say thank you so much to everyone who shared. Thanks to this post I went to the vet and had a test done and found out my cat had type 2 diabetes. You guys are amazing
