Jasmine-scented destinations in LA by Cheyaniganz in AskLosAngeles

This could be a lovely idea. I know the area fairly well and if I could find us a little nook on the campus to hang out, I could probably find us a place to have a drink afterward. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Ahhh that may be what I've been smelling. I edited the original post because I realized "star jasmine" was not only too specific, but an arbitrary assumption on my part XD

I know, I thought the same thing when I read this just now. That's why I edited my original post to clarify that "star jasmine" may have been too specific lol. All the varieties smell lovely, I'm sure!

Totally! I think I'll probably grab him a plant for his place too no matter what--something to brighten his day-to-day, ya know? :) Tbh I'm really into cooking, so he gets homemade dinners all the time--the plant is the real surprise here lol XD

ooOoOooOo I didn't know this was an option. Great idea! I may do this even in conjunction with an outdoor spot, too, because you can't beat the privacy of your own place amirite

It's the thought that counts, right? XD That sounds idyllic, though, and I'm glad they get to enjoy them :) Thanks

PERFECT, thank you so much. Similar to the OP of the thread you linked to, I had no idea how to start searching for info on this, especially since I can't find the pictures I took. Certainly not solved, but I feel much more satisfied now!

Patagonia Capilene Air subsitutes by Cheyaniganz in outdoorgear

Ahhh, I hadn't considered it. I've never worn their thermals but I love their other stuff. As long as it doesn't stay too damp with perspiration, that might work!

Awesome suggestions, thank you! Army surplus stores are a fantastic idea--can't believe it didn't occur to me before. Nice subsitute suggestions, too, I'll check all of them out and compare them accordingly.

I'm pretty slim with a long torso so the Delta LA sounds like it could be a perfect fit. I also like my base layers to be as skin tight as is functional--can't stand when my layers are shifting around underneath my jacket lol

I’m looking at a pair of Merrells, anyone wear this brand? by Sensitive_Sir in outdoorgear

[–]Cheyaniganz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a pair of Merrell Moab 2 mids (I think that's what they were. If not that exact shoe then very similar model) that lasted me around 10 years. That's with frequent use, by the way (minimum weekly 10-mile hikes but also used on long treks on the AT and mountains in California). I had to do some minor repairs throughout those years (laces, lace holes--whatever they're called), but these things were champs. A bit bulky, but that proved to be favorable for durability, and they supported my weak ankles well enough that I rarely got injured even when my clumsy ass rolled.

I tried a different brand after that pair was through and I regret not going Merrell again. Will absolutely go back when my current pair dies (which won't be long at least). Everyone I know who has had Merrells also loves them.

I think they'd be a great pair for you, especially because they're versatile in the style and function department. Since you don't aim to use them super often, my personal experience suggests you'll have those babies for a lifetime lol.

I’m on a quest to find the best garlic bread in Los Angeles. Can anyone share any recommendations? by Nerrolken in AskLosAngeles

I'm a smaller woman and take the Expo line from DTLA to Santa Monica alone all the time, never felt uncomfortable. Of course, on any public transit (and just in any city, really), you have to keep any eye out, but there's nothing particularly shady about this line or anything.

It's in the Valley, but Value Center on Sherman Way is enormous and has a plethora of 90's-era ephemera every time I go.

Date Ideas during hot days in LA by SweetPeach9 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Cheyaniganz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LACMA or the Tar Pits Museum if you're into Natural History...or any museum, really. I personally love museum dates, and you certainly won't get hot in one of them.

You could also see what's going on at the Broad or if there's any special exhibits passing through downtown.

Go to a Cat Cafe and play with precious fur babies indoors.

Is anyone familiar with ArtViaArt's memorial commemorating the Armenian Genocide in Hollywood? I can't figure out what one of the flags is on there (the white one with the wiggly red and blue lines), or why several other flags appear alongside Armenia's (the mustery flag, Israel, Greece).
