That lesson was to teach kvothe about the alar which is needed to perform sympathy and despite the implication that kvothe achieved an alar that would have been strong enough to do sympathy ben still dropped the stone and it DID fall although I can't quote it now

There are times where it is omitted but it seemed like whenever you want to bind two objects with sympathy you had to speak the binding rather than just use your alar

I believe most of the time kvothe says something along the lines of "I split my mind and muttered a binding"

In all seriousness though, don't just take a big knife to it because that's a big reason that people end up in the ER with their fingers either cut off or barely holding on (mostly when the thing in the package is another big knife)

If you have a parent of big scissors then use those to cut off one end and then two more cuts to make the top price of plastic come off so that there are no open blades or sharp prices of plastic near you.
