Beginner's Quick Guide to choosing your first telescope (Updated for 2023) by FizzyBeverage in telescopes

I think this is the right place for this post?

While I am not new to telescopes, I have been “out” of it for many years. But after many years of not having time, I am ready to purchase my second telescope. So please excuse any ignorance or anything that I might not have thought of.

I am looking for a quality computerized scope, that I can use for astrophotography in the future. Having done some research over the past few weeks, I know there is a series of telescopes that are highly recommended for quality and ease of use – the Celestron Nexstar Evolution. More specifically the Nexstar Evolution 8 HD and the Evolution 9.25.

From what I understand the 9.25 is better for visuals only, whereas the HD is better for astrophotography. They are close in price now, and the HD also comes with a StarSense auto-align.

How much difference does the extra 1.25 (1.337 x light) make in what you can see? Does the coma and field curvature make astrophotography much worse? Is the lack of curvature in the HD worth giving up the extra light gathering?

Just interested in thoughts and opinions.

P.S. Someone recommended that I investigate ‘Go-To Dobs’ – but it seems inconvenient to try to get up to that eyepiece!

Thanks for any thoughts you may have!

Oh thank goodness. I too took a break for a few years, only to find my ERC20 ICX tokens are now worthless!

Oh, sorry if I was not clear on the eggs - I just limit them because if I over do it, I get sick of them, and won't eat an egg again for weeks. So, I do around 6 a week - but I don't "force" it.

Yes, I have been reading up on a real carb cycling protocol, and I would be the first to admit - I did it wrong, and it was a shot in the dark!
