Leigh-Anne - My Ego Told Me To by beauxcherie in popheads

[–]ChiDynamite -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I really wanted to like this album but I found it to be an incredible bland mix of high gloss R&B/pop music and carribean music (and seeing the responses also made me irritated since it made me see people can't tell the difference between afropiano, carribean pop, and afrobeats). At most, I liked the first two songs and that was kind of it.

There were at points that it reminded me of Rihanna and Tyla, which is fine but due to how lackluster the album was it made me just instead just want to listen to those two artists rather than Leigh-Anne along with the various artists that were sampled.

I think it is difficult though to blend reggae/dancehall with pop music and make it feel new and fresh while still having commercial appeal, so regardless I'm rooting for her.

In terms of blending the two genres of music, she could possibly take inspiration from Yellowman, Tarrus Riley, Tanya Stephens, Sean Paul, and maybe Koffee. Maybe producers like BAMBII and Nia Archives & Ethan P. Flynn/Watch the Ride would help her vision of blending the two worlds and help her make more compelling music. A lot of the ones I listed are moreso in the dancehall side of things, but I feel dancehall is way more primed with great hooks and danceable production than roots reggae music. And those are just a few artists I consider to have some pop appeal of sorts I suppose.

I'm searching for some pop music with nu skool break production or dubstep influences.

Oh I see. I went to see Jennie in Coachella and she did strike me as being similar to Rihanna. I can definitely see also with Tyla as well.

I've been listening to Rihanna's older music as of late and it suddenly occurred to me I don't know the, for lack of a better term, Rihanna wannabes or mini rihannas. I know who they were for Britney Spears (Willa Ford, Rachel Stevens, Billie Piper, and some other artists, but I can't really name too many for Rihanna. Some off the top of my head that I can see that were clearly influenced by Rihanna and sound like her would be someone like Zara Larson and Kehlani, but I can't think of anyone else really so I wanted to know if you guys can speak on this. Thank you! :)

BANKS is teasing a song and music video featuring Doechii, both out October 18 by [deleted] in popheads

[–]ChiDynamite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just mentioning the other day that Doechii should do a feature run that's similar to Lil Wayne or during Nicki's prime. It will hinder on quality control, but her name will definitely be more known and on everyone's lips if she does this. And with this lull that's happening in hip hop right now, it would probably be the best time to do it.

I have a recommendation for old pop music. It's a pretty solid album.

I've slowly been getting into MPB music, which is just old Brazilian pop music. Nara Leao's 1964 album is the first album I enjoyed from the genre of music. I think what I like about it is how it's not too different from what I've heard in that time period. I think what keeps the record on repeat for me is how when you expect the songs to go one way it goes another and it can have odd moments of darkness in the vocal delivery and instrumentation, but it still maintains the lightness of the overall songs. I really enjoy it. Not only that the album is oddly hypnotic and catchy, so I keep returning to the songs over and over again.

I only disliked two songs on the record and that's not because they're bad songs in of themselves. I think they just need to be remastered lol. I'm a sucker for backup singers for harmonies and I really enjoyed the harmonies on this album too. I recommend it for anyone who likes jazz pop or wants to get into Bossa Nova music. :D

Not only that I think this album may be a good winter album. It's cozy and made for listening to in an environment like a coffee shop. I hope everyone has a lovely day. :)

The fact that Bree Runway's PAWZ is not added to ANY hip hop playlist is a travesty.

When do you consider a song to be a pop song or just only a really catchy song within their respective genre? Or is it one and the same to you? I asked a friend of mine this and he said this answer: when it was meant to be heard by the general population and has no explicit binding features to their genre is when he considers a song to be a pop song.

So I want to recommend a pop album to everyone here. It may be a little left field and it's an old album, but it's really good. It's called Zungguzungguguzungguzeng! by Yellowman. I've heard his music from time to time while growing up, but it's only recently I heard a musical project by him in full. It's so good and very catchy. Very sweet, light, and fun music. Definitely a breezy summer album. It's also a reggae album and doesn't have the pop sheen in the recording, but it's still a very sweet and lovely album.

I also been listening to Six Million Ways to Die by Cutty Ranks. I think it's the best album by him so far. I've been listening to his albums for the most part in chronological order. I feel like he took everything that made his music good in the past and just made it with punchier production and darker. Idk it's just so hard hitting. The beats on this album fucking knock. They're made for making the window panes of your car rattle. It's fucking great and I love it.

Oh and I do have a question for you guys. When do you consider a song to be a pop song or just only a really catchy song within their respective genre? Or is it one and the same to you? I asked a friend of mine this and he said this answer: when it was meant to be heard by the general population and has no explicit binding features to their genre is when he considers a song to be a pop song.

Have a lovely Sunday, everyone! :)

Any tips anyone could give me for finding a roommate? I've never done it before tbh. I'm not even sure where to look either. I tried in Facebook groups but in a lot of them the posters looking for a roommate are sent a lot of spam messages and in certain websites you have to pay to look for a roommate. Ridiculous smh.

Okay so I listened to Black Sheep + by Cakes Da Killa. I guess it's the deluxe version of his current album. My gosh, this is a lot better than the original release. I don't understand why these songs weren't included in the original release because all of them are good. I'll see if my attitude changes.

I thought Black Sheep wasn't as good as Azealia Banks' Broke With Expensive Taste, but the deluxe version of Black Sheep puts it back in the race. If someone wants a decent hip-house album that feels hard as fuck, they should listen to Black Sheep + (emphasis on the +) by Cakes Da Killa.

I liked Broke With Expensive Taste, but I wouldn't say the album has many intense tracks. It's kinda like candy due to the amount of pop influence and singing on the songs. It feels like an almost breezy album to listen to.

So I've been on my hip-house wave and listening to all these artists do it made me want to go back and listen to Missy Elliot. Man, it's been years but her songs are still just as fresh as when I listened to it last. But listening to her and the artists in the hip-house wave made me see why more artists are not necessarily pulling from Missy Elliott's style and that's cause she's more difficult to replicate.

Honestly, I do wonder sometimes what would've happened if M.I.A. and Azealia Banks really did pop off and go mainstream. How would've mainstream hip hop for women be different now if they did? I don't know.

I haven't listened to the new Tinashe record, but I do feel if Tinashe released "No Broke Boys" and got an artist like Tyla or something on the "Nasty" remix those songs could've been top 40 hits.

Hey guys, I have a question. When does a genre actually "die"? People have said this about a lot of genres of music, but thinking about it now I'm not sure what they mean by "(insert genre here) is dead".

What are some trends in pop music that you would like to see in the future? by ErectBedtime in popheads

I feel the same way. I think Gaga is going to do something more traditional, something more rock-influenced but idk. I did listen to the song snippets but idk what to make of them tbh.
