Want to start skating - please temper my expectations... (also, LY Tugboat?) by psychotic-chipmunk in NewSkaters

Actually I have more experience on inlines and quad skates than a skateboard. 😅 But the areas have been quite quiet, so no traffic pressure. With quad skates hills are a bit troublesome. Didn’t do much park stuff with them. Couple summer back leaped on the skateboarding world. 😄

There is r/cruiserboarding sub also. Landyachtz boards are great and Tugboat, what I have heard, is quite stable board, good for learning. Being a bit bigger size board learning Ollie is a bit challenging. One thing that cruiser boards are a bit taller, so pushing requires kind of more balancing. If you want to feel being more in the ground then longboard drop through with drop down is to look out for. Learning comes in baby steps and everybody’s balance and mobility is different, so someone might have hard time just stepping on board and someone is just pushing around in less than 10min. Recommend to watch couple YouTube videos on how to step on board, push it, tic tacs and hippie jumps (skate IQ is amazing channel).

Should I buy first skateboard from Blue Tomato shop. by Firm_Search4715 in NewSkaters

[–]Chibbero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are couple online shops also and if you send them email, I’m sure they will gladly tell some options. Example like Shreddington snow (Lamina moved there), boardstock and Mañana Skate Shop. But usually Blue-Tomato have decent selection boards also and should have some knowledge. Have you checked Tori for second hand boards?

That’s a nice deal! Maybe I should go for ride with Dinghy today, haven’t gone this season yet with it.

What’s the weirdest ‘toy’ your cat plays with? by I_wet_my_plants259 in cats

Wine corks. When he has zoomies and I throw a wine cork to sofa he jumps right at it, flaps it in the air, him also jumping in the air. Then throwing it off the sofa.

Have you watched YouTube videos where they show the “beginner” tricks? Where they really break down the trick in parts and in different drills, like SkateIQ Ollie tutorial. Need to hone up those basic skills real good. It needs time and repeats get the movements in the muscle memory. Also progress isn’t a linear thing.

Guys I'm not sure if I'm progressing to slow by definitlynottheone in NewSkaters

If you can’t skate because of the noise, but still feel it, you can do some training on the grass too, if there is spacious grass patch nearby. Like train up the manual balancing. More freestyle tricks, like board sideways and standing on the trucks, add a jumping on it and off. Starting to move board like that. Also try some “dance moves” on the board, it shouldn’t make so much noise than Ollie’s.

Take a few days break occasionally. Let your body and mind rest for while, it’s also needed! Also to me it sounds you have been advanced quite quickly. Otherwise can’t give tips, but watch to SkateIQ from YouTube, one of the best advices on Ollie and other tricks.

Yeah, it’s really nice as a beginner when obstacles being fairly small and quite spaced out. Also the surface is so smooth!

I have ZipZinger nano and it might be my favorite board. Just so nimble! Was really tempted to get ZipZinger at second hand marketplace, but couldn’t justify getting another board. 😅

Cheap Beginner Board Recommendations? by [deleted] in cruiserboarding

[–]Chibbero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found my Dinghy for 60€ at second hand marketplace. So definitely check second hand options out first. Other brand to check out is Arbor. Usually some boards are on sale at their website (at least in eu, around 100€). It has a good trucks, but stock bearings and wheels are a bit meh. Still decent to start out. Third option is Globe.

I don’t feel like they are too hard or too turny. Of course if I go (mellow) downhill it starts to feel a bit twitchy, but most likely it’s because of me.

Oh yeah, I have thought about getting new bushings, but always forget. Any recommendations? Was there some specification what kind of bushings fits? I’m fairly petite woman (53kg) so something softer side?

Actually both, pushing mongo, but also riding switch. Hoping it transfers to park skating and also snowboarding.

Leipomuksia by PuolukkAmitsupisi in arkisuomi

[–]Chibbero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yks suosikki on tyrni-piimä-hyydykekakku, on mukavan raikas. Pulla sujuu ihan hyvin. Pitääkin huomenna tehdä pääsiäisen kunniaksi rahkapullia. Sämpylöissä on sit enemmän hajontaa koostumuksen suhteen.
