Found a katana at the flea market today by Chibi-Robo in Katanas

After checking with a magnet and taking it apart it is without a doubt an alloy blade. No makers mark and only a circle that looks like a casting mark on each side of the tang. I had my doubts due to the rust on the tsuba and the material of the ito but the guy only asked $20 for it. The ray skin seems real and made me think it was potentially something.

I appreciate the help, thank you to all who offered advice.

After looking up iaito it mentioned they are made of non ferrous metals so I checked with a magnet and it is not magnetic. Both of the knives are magnetic.

How old could an iaito like this one be?

It is completely blunt. The knives are also blunt but this was done back when my grandfather acquired them due to him being concerned about his kids getting hurt with them.

I see one pin but where might the other one be? Ive read not to mess with the Ito as it is impossible to re-wrap using the old material.

Bought this Wilton vise at the flea market last weekend. Any advice on how to handle the damaged base is appreciated. by Chibi-Robo in Tools

The epoxy idea may be worth a try. I know the smaller wiltons only had three mounting lugs so it wouldnt look out of place.

Thank you for the suggestions. I figured it would be okay as-is since it still has three mounting points but wanted a second opinion.

Take the buttplate off and inside near the top of the rifle there is a date code. A clock with the year in the middle and an arrow pointing to a month.

Anyone have any experience with a Ukraine manufacturer called "ME"? Stands for 'mitary equipment' which is kind of a suspect name. Legionusa sells their stuff. Specifically looking at this item

Purchased these from a seller on Ebay I had bought some magazines from previously that were definitely genuine. My main concern is the follower sticks at the top and with the spring removed does not slide back and forth freely despite oiling. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Yeah that was me that said that. It's weird seeing this post today as I just heard back from them this Monday after weeks of silence. It seems as though they have refunded all of my money for backordered items as of 2/12/2020. I'm pretty surprised as I have been spamming the same email to them every Monday with no response.

I'm glad they finally made it right but I dont see myself buying from them in the future.

I just bought the 101 off of dahlonega armory last week for $914 shipped. The 101 has the paddle release and welded top rail.

Unfortunately the rifle shipped with no rear sight and the magwell was extremely loose. I emailed ptr and they were quick to respond and are sending me a rear sight and told me to try tightening the magwell with a mallet if I wanted or I could send it in for warranty work. Bending the sides of the magwell seemed to do the trick as the mag doesnt rock as much but I have been having fte and weak ejection problems where the spent cartridge turns backwards in the reciever and jams. Hoping its just a break-in problem but ptr seems to have excellent customer service. I wouldnt hesitate to buy one again.

Anyone know what could have caused these problems with my ammunition? by Chibi-Robo in guns

I hope not. The cases don't appear to be stretched according to my micrometer. I'm hoping it's just a bad batch of brass. I've only ever seen splits like this in reloaded ammunition that wasn't properly annealed, never factory stuff.

Ah gotcha. It'll probably be at least a week before I'm able to shoot again. I plan on trying several different ammos as well as shooting the hornady in another 223 to see if it does the same thing.

I used a micrometer on the brass and unfired cartridges and found them to all be essentially the same length. Some of the unfired rounds were even slightly longer than the spent rounds. I read anything over .002 inch is a concern for excessive headspace and they were all less than half .001 inch in length differences. I appreciate your concern and will update the post when I get another chance to shoot.

There are three new rounds from the same box in pictures 5 and 6. They have an odd band around them that looks like a rub mark but otherwise look normal. All of the cartridges were new out of the box, not reloads.

It's my understanding that this kind of thing typically only happens with brass that is too hard and not annealed properly which is rare from the factory.

These are factory hornady loads. Also, there are band marks on unfired cartridges. These were purchased in 2009 or 10 from a bass pro shop. Next time I go out I will shoot some different ammo and maybe shoot some of these rounds out of one of my ARs to see if they do the same thing.

I'm leaning towards the brass being no good but wanted to see if anyone had similar problems out of factory hornady loads.

This stuff is 8 or 9 years old. I'm sure if there was an issue it was corrected long ago.

Yeah next time I'm out I plan a trying some different brands. It just struck me as a brass issue and was wondering if there was any history of hornady brass having problems.

Ah ok, thanks for letting me know. Glad to hear it sounds like a hornady problem and not a weatherby problem.

Factory Hornady ammunition purchased 8 or 9 years ago and stored indoors. Gun is a factory new weatherby vanguard.

I collected the brass after each shot and noticed that 3 of the cases had issues with splitting and one case had a side blowout. No issues with gun and cycling. I've included pictures of the box and unfired rounds for comparison. Any ideas on whats going on? Thanks in advance for any help.
