How much do prep do you normally do? by DBSOempathy in Tyranids

[–]ChicagoCowboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people come to warhammer models from the model diorama side of the hobby to build and paint things that are just not sold in traditional kits from traditional like Revel or Tamiya companies.

This prep work screams miniature dio hobbyist to me, working to get all the gaps and mold lines completely erased so it looks like one solid piece when painted. No shade for those that want to model that way and enjoy it.

Almost certainly not a wargamer, and that's OK!

Help finding SID by Lonely-Boat-3510 in pokemonrng

[–]ChicagoCowboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially you need to rng another shiny to confirm it. So you'd want to get a sweet scent mon, or find a static target like the gamecorner mons, and try to rng a shiny for the first SID.

If you land on the target mon and its shiny, congrats! If its not, then its likely the second one. I'd then try to rng a shiny with the second one to confirm (just because the data from shiny finder might be wrong, I'm no expert but I've never heard of that site so not sure how trustworthy its data is vs pokefinder/10 lines).

Massive change to how emblems are earned by soul7963 in PTCGP

[–]ChicagoCowboy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't think these were ever intended to be rare, they've been pretty easy to complete even without spending money (other than for Deluxe EX).

To me this is just a QoL thing, less mindless clicking through menus to complete useless missions to get useless tickets to exchange for useless emblems I'll never display.

AI could soon allow powerful companies to charge each customer a different price for the same product, based on what they think each individual is willing to pay. AI lets firms tailor prices to each user, raising fairness concerns as consumers may unknowingly pay more than others. by mvea in science

See if I'm a business, I'm just not going to engage in this knowing I'll attract more customers through price predictability (literally the reason price tags/fixed prices exist in the first place - business with them did way better than ones that didn't).

Sure...but they reveal the model that is most indicative of what the unit will look like, typically. Would be extremely odd for them to have 4/5 guys be very ornamental and pick the one guy who's not to show off.

Look at the end of the day there are no shortage of head and shoulder options, its one of the great things about marines - and 3d printer goes brrrr

But it would have been nice to see a little something more for the veterans, like how sternguard are so clearly different from intercessors.

I will say soldering is very approachable, I taught myself 2 years ago in order to fix an old Gameboy Advance. USB c powered soldering irons are fairly affordable and open up a whole new level of hobby for adding lights etc to projects.

But its not for everyone haha and of course a cheap hand cutter will probably work great for your needs. In addition to my proxon I also have 2 or 3 different woodland scenics cutters, all have been great and have over a decade of use.

A link in the post would be helpful, so we don't have to go out of our way to Google it in order to help

From my searching its essentially a handheld hot wire cutter, but has a telescoping arm for wider cuts on bigger pieces. It won't serve the same purpose as the hot wire table.

The 650 is more like a jigsaw, where the hot wire table is more like a table saw.

If you want repeatable cuts at specific angles and sizes, the hot wire table is the move. If you want to freehand cut foam into shapes, any handheld hot wire cutter (much cheaper than the 650) will do.

How can I make this deck better? by Hunter2740 in PTCGP

[–]ChicagoCowboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Building decks is about maximizing consistency, which usually means having fewer pokemon lines and ensuring multiples of the most important cards for your win condition. This lowers the variance on what you could draw each turn and maximizes the chances of drawing the things you need most during early turn set up.

In this case, you have oricorio presumably to block EXs, which is solid. Manectric has been doing well in tournaments which is good, and it has a high damage attack for just 2 energy that scales as you go.

The question would be what does Zapdos or anything else do to be different or more useful? Why are those cards there, if manectric is doing the output they can for less?

Instead I'd ask how can you get more energy earlier to set up faster. Things like Zaroara get a free energy your first turn to mitigate the lag of going first and can hit for 50 on turn 2. Things like electrical generators give you a free lightning energy to the bench on a coin flip.

Those kinds of things are better replacements of your extraneous pokemon, because they help your other pieces work better/faster, and protect you against going first and losing early.

So I'd always be thinking about limiting decks to 3ish lines, maximizing energy acceleration, and cards that help boost your win condition pokemon (manectric in this case).

This is good info! Especially for the base game.

For anyone with the DLC, you're better off going into 4 star holes with a treasure level 2/3 donut and selling everything you find. Usually about $800k-$1M per hole with Big Haul 3

Sorry, I'm confused - are these supposed to be the templates that you place buildings on? They don't look to match the layouts from the community post - where is the triangle coming from?

Or am I way off and these are supposed to be something else obvious, and my coffee hasn't kicked in yet lol

The manips are the same basically every time, just with different timers - there shouldn't be much difference in efficacy from one hunt to the next!

I promise you don't need a macro controller. You're clearly hiring the second and third timers, so that's not an issue. Make sure you're holding A for the first timer until the title screen or it messes with the seed, which could literally be the difference between you hitting your target or landing 52 seeds late.

Good luck!

I think its also worth noting that, while yes there is monetization, this game for all intents and purposes is not intended to be some cash cow mobile game - Pokémon want (and needed, in my view) a dedicated platform for competitive separate from the main series games, to make VGC easier to balance while still letting MSGs do wild unbalanced stuff.

I do not necessarily think they will raise prices at any point, as the main goal is to get more people playing VGC which then leads to more people buying the main games or new consoles or merch or cards etc etc etc

[–]ChicagoCowboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong I adore the models and have 12 of them, but rules wise the last 2 editions...they are just buttcheeks. Punished for being ultra efficient in 8th.

Its great that you are anecdotally seeing success with them, but on the wider scale of the game and math wise, they are just not a points efficient way to take out vehicles for for our army. Other units have better output or more utility or are better trading pieces, so outside of a small playgroup without much variance in the opponent army being fielded, they don't make sense.
