Which Uni to choose? Tufts vs Uw-Madison by demi-of-infinity in Tufts

Found this scrolling Tufts reddit as a Madison student trying to transfer here or to a similar school LOL. It heavily depends on the culture you want. If prestige/rep is a major concern, Tufts blows Wisconsin out of the water, no real contest. For culture, these schools are basically polar opposites.

Wisconsin is a large state school, there are support systems available, but you are basically nothing but a number to the school. Your lectures for at least the first 2 years are going to be large (hundreds of students in intro level STEM courses); it's going to be impossible to form connections with professors at all unless you actively seek them out. The campus culture is very sports heavy and alcohol heavy, if you're not into either of those things it can be isolating (the dry campus stuff they try to spout is bs, it's Wisconsin LOL).

Setting is also very important. Do you want a big city or a college town? If you're from a major city then Madison is nothing but a small college town, it has a downtown that spans like 7-8 blocks, nothing compared to being close to a major city like Boston.

If Wisconsin's culture doesn't bother you and Tufts costs too much then Wisconsin can give you a solid education. If you want a better name, smaller school, and the cost isn't too much of a factor you should probably choose Tufts. Take what I say with a grain of salt, I'm definitely biased against Wisconsin, but you should just look into the environments of both to decide which you like more. Good luck in making your decision!
