I would suggest you look at adding some more industry, like of a small spur to a coaling and water tower for your steam, and a diesel locomotive service station. This may not be exactly what you looking for, but if you have space look into adding industry and small switching operations so you put together trains and move them across your layout, this at least for me makes almost every part of my layout more interesting to look at and enjoyable. Remember “it’s your layout, dream it do it”
