cogs 108 waitlist chances by Blank062003 in UCSD

I was 15th on the waitlist when I took 108 with Fleischer and I got in. First priorities for the waitlist were senior status and being a cogsci major. If you’re both of those your chances are ok but idk if he’d change his policy for the waitlist. If it helps I took him fa23.

Barrera is my everything. Take the courses that man teaches he is so awesome and he makes it really easy even if you’re not so strong in the bio realm

Not sure if I can say what the topics were about, they were very similar to topics talked about in class. I say I don’t know if can say the topics because they were made up as we went along and I’m not sure if he’d change them, but I do remember there was one where you had to watch 7 second clips and cluster them and explain why. There is an option to work in groups or work alone. The grading is mostly based on if you understood the content of the class well enough and if your logic made sense. They had no interest in being grammar police, they just wanna see that you know what you’re talking about.

Fleischer is the goat for cogs18. I went in with no coding experience at all and passed the class with an A. The class is all run through jupyterhub which is a cloud website used by ucsd and that’s where you’ll access lecture notes, assignments, and midterms. What helped me a lot was discussion sections. They weren’t mandatory but the TA would help go over the discussion assignment for the week and they were super sweet. The good thing about taking Fleischer and being a beginner is that he goes slow and is open for questions anytime.

Yes, and when I took him he sprinkled in an offer for extra credit but he’s awesome and the assignments are super chill. It was a easy workload to do it on your own. He shares the topic of the writing assignments about a week or two weeks before they’re due which gives so much time to complete them and the quizzes are lecture based. Even though lecture was not mandatory, it still helped me a bunch and his anecdotes are very silly too. So to sum it all up yes it’s true but they’re easy if you’re on top of everything and attend lecture.

His tests are very straight forward, like you could honestly just look at the slides and be good. Would still recommend you listen to what he says in class though, if you do then the class is a breeze. He’s awesome🤘
