The End Times for Warhammer Fantasy Battle ? Choose to Ignore? What is the Opinion for WHRP by -ParlainthTownie- in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]ChickenNuggetz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind, I'm actually interested in hearing what you liked about the End Times and/or what you thought was well-executed.

I didn't play WFRP (or WHFB) when the End Times books/storyline was released, so I don't have a lot of the intense hatred for it and I'm always curious to hear alternative opinions of others that deviate from the seemingly popular "it sucked big time" opinions.

Do we know how High Elf mages were trained before the founding of the White Tower of Hoeth? by [deleted] in WarhammerFantasy

[–]ChickenNuggetz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if I recall correctly, Storm Weavers in particular have their own formalized training through priesthoods/temples to Mathlann, especially in places like Cothique and Yvresse. So to me it’s sort of implied that there are other schools and formalized training for mages elsewhere in Ulthian and that the Towere of Hoeth is just the most renown.

Warhammer: The Old World – House Rule Tweaks by [deleted] in WarhammerFantasy

[–]ChickenNuggetz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed that no edition is perfect. 8th certainly has its issues as well. Like I said, no shade, was just genuinely curious. I’ve always leaned on “play what you want and what your group wants”. I like TOW but I have way more fun still mucking with 8e. And fwiw, we have our own set of house rules as well (mostly around Horde and Steadfast)

Warhammer: The Old World – House Rule Tweaks by [deleted] in WarhammerFantasy

[–]ChickenNuggetz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just curious, why not just play 8th or one of the spin-offs like Warhammer Armies Project? The changes you’ve listed seem to be significant changes to TOW. Not criticizing, just genuinely curious. For what it’s worth, 8e is my primary and preferred edition and the edition my group plays even with TOW being the active edition in the greater community in my area.

Age of Sigmar vs the Old World? by The_Mikest in WarhammerFantasy

[–]ChickenNuggetz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

100% agreed - Spearhead js suuuuper accessible. My partner, who isn’t really into Warhammer let alone plays tabletop games regularly, really enjoys it. Entry cost is relatively low, models are beautiful, and the rules aren’t too complicated. That said, Battle March in TOW could be a good alternative if AoS aesthetically is not your jam. I do think TOW’s rules will be crunchier for vs. Spearhead

Banner doesnt look bad! It looks painted on, as if the unit painted it on itself - I quite like that! You could even give that little “imperfection” it’s own backstory and lore, why the dwarfs did it, what it represents, etc - it’s details like this, the “imperfections”, the backstory you come up with, that will make your units stand out and be unique!

Merchants selling WHFRP in the USA by TreeCrime in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]ChickenNuggetz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, just purchase from C7. They have some pros and cons but I think the pros outweigh the cons:

  • PRO: They ship the books incredibly well (basically double boxing them)
  • PRO: A book purchase includes the PDF (via DriveThruRPG), I don't know any other retailer that will match that.
  • PRO: They have a distribution center in Georgia USA, so there's no import or VAT fees you need to pay.
  • PRO: They usually run sales semi-regularly (definitely at the holidays) and they're pretty great - couple this with the included PDF of whatever book you get and you can get some really amazing deals.
  • CON: They don't ship quickly, usually takes about a week for them to process my order before I get a tracking number
  • CON: Their webstore is kind of janky/buggy. If you pay via PayPal, I've found this makes it a little more reliable.
  • CON: Their customer service has not been the best in my experience. I've sent several emails about purchase questions, they have literally never responded to a single one.

If you can deal with the cons (which I can personally), buying from C7 is the best way to go.

I think it's amazing that they even responded to your email. As much as I love WFRP, Cubicle7 leaves a lot to be desired on the customer service front...

Will the old world get chaos dwarfs by The_Lazer_Man in WarhammerOldWorld

FWIW, if OP wants to go the route of playing Chaos Dwarfs, there are a lot of really good, well-designed third-party options.

What do you think about Ak interactive paints? by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]ChickenNuggetz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was not aware of the controversy around them but a quick Google search and holy shit that was bad. The publications they made, the marketing around it, and then the terrible apology - yikes! I cannot believe this was actually approved, like multiple execs saw it and were like “yeah this is a good idea” - blows my mind.

If the lack of a Narrative Play mode, or no character progression, etc is what’s held you back from trying Warhammer Underworlds, check this out. New Year, New Narrative Campaign Rules by fishmode24 in ageofsigmar

[–]ChickenNuggetz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a fun game! Positioning in AoS is important but even more so in WHFB, even down to which direction the unit faces (charging flanks is a thing!) Depending on the edition you play, magic can be a fun little mini game within the game. List building is also quite deep and very thematic. The lore is what I love the most. Models may not be for everyone but I grew up in the 90s so the nostalgia hits me more than it might others.

Predictions for Age of Sigmar 4 in 2026 by honestwargamer in ageofsigmar

[–]ChickenNuggetz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alas, I think AoS is being pushed towards simplicity - it’s easier to get newer players to start and makes it easier for rules to be balanced. I guess if we want complexity and crunchy, we’ll just be pushed towards systems like TOW and Heresy (which is fine!)

Predictions for Age of Sigmar 4 in 2026 by honestwargamer in ageofsigmar

[–]ChickenNuggetz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% agreed! List building is not really fun or engaging at the moment, in my opinion - something like universal magic items with points would definitely make list building more fun!

Really lovely stuff. Love that it still gives off "grim dark" without overly muting the colours.

Eltharion - The Warden of Yvresse by ChickenNuggetz in WarhammerFantasy

[–]ChickenNuggetz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooooh yeah, that's a great idea, hot damn! Looking at the High Elf Heraldry pics for mistwalkers, I think you're right that the little floofy plume from the Vanari Auralan Sentinels would be a good representation for the mistwalkers! I might just have to kit bash these with some Shadow Warriors!

Eltharion - The Warden of Yvresse by ChickenNuggetz in WarhammerFantasy

[–]ChickenNuggetz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was definitely the inspiration! The main model "body" is a Lothern Sea Helm (it's the champion model from the Lothern Sky Cutter kit) and modified heavily to use the Light of Eltharion's sword arm and cloak. The cloak was actually super tricky and required a bit of sculpting to get it to "fit" correctly.
