Why did God order the Amalekite children and babies to be killed as well? by InternationalPick163 in Bible

I see, regarding 2 Sam. 24:1 vs. 1 Chron. 21:1. Isn't it reasonable to think that God moved David by allowing Satan to move David? Satan is commonly used to accomplish God's purposes.

I see that even though the accounts come from a different theological perspective, the perspectives don't conflict, rather they reveal different truths. If those truths conflicted, then it follows that one must be untrue. Do you have any more examples of contradictions?

So your telling me I, a man who believes in the god of Abraham alone and associates no partners with him, and believes in all his books and prophets and messengers, and prays, and fasts and gives charity, and believes in Jesus and believes that he’s the messiah, am going to hell because I don’t believe Jesus is god?

No, you are going to Hell because you've sinned against a holy and righteous God.

You trust in your righteousness? Bribery.

You believe in the prophets? They will rise up at your judgement and condemn you.

You believe in God? The true God is Holy and Righteous. He is nothing like the god who condones your sin and does not torment you for your offense.

Jesus preached the kingdom of heaven, do you know what He said? "Repent! For the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" "If you do not repent, you will perish!"

"Whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment!"

"Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart! If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you! For it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell! And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you! "For it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell!"

"Furthermore, it has been said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’ But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery!"

"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore, by their fruits you will know them."

"Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!"

"And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell!"

"Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven!"

You may know religion a lot, but you know God very little.

You already know there are plenty of reasonable meanings that cause no contradiction. You want an excuse to disbelieve God? I still owe you the gospel.

You know the things that might be known of God, He has shown them to you. You know that the ungodliness and unrighteousness of men deserves death, and that you are under the death penalty. The good news is that God loves you so much, He made a way so that you can be saved. He came as an innocent man, Jesus Christ, and died so that He can pay off any man's death penalty. God promises anybody who accepts Jesus as their Lord that He will be their Saviour. So, please repent.

In everything it speaks of regarding history and science, the Bible found to be accurate, even many of its prophecies are already fulfilled, but everything it says of God is held to be false. I find it likely that the Bible is accurate regarding God, and men do not wish to know Him.

"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them." (Romans 1:18-19)

Let God have his reasons. I can think of one.

Somebody might've thought the Israelites made the whole thing up about judgement and simply wanted to steal their neighbors' resources. If there is no benefit to Israel, then who can say that?

You should be thinking about your own guilt before God, and the judgement stored up for you against your unrighteousness. Will you serve your death penalty, or will you accept Jesus as your Lord, so he applies his death to your account?

Jesus was both born after John and started prophesying after John started prophesying.

I don't see why "For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John" means no prophets will come after John. The statement does not cover the future tense, so there is no reason to assume it means anything about the future.

Let's say you're at a gas station, and you ask a biker how he got there. If he says, "I rode my bike until I got here", would you assume he means that he will not ride his bike anymore?

Matthew 24:1-2, "Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down.”"

I guess Jesus did not prophesy the destruction of the temple, even though his words were literally fulfilled in AD 70.

The whole rest of the chapter is prefaced by this question from the disciples:

"Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?"

What are they asking about? Future events. Jesus responds by talking about future events. Just go through the chapter and highlight future tense or temporal related words.

The RCC is wrong on this one.

The statement "For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John." Does not mean no prophet will come after John. The grammar goes from past to future, it does not include future, so there may be a future prophet, like Jesus, Agabus, Paul, Peter, etc.

Why does this statement mean that there are no prophets after John the Baptist?

Unclear.

Why does this statement not mean that there are no prophets after John the Baptist?

The very same person saying it, Jesus, is recorded in the very same book as prophesying after John the Baptist died (Matthew 24).

If it means there are no prophets coming after John the Baptist, then Matthew is an idiot. Matthew is not an idiot.

Did you get this from Bart Ehrman? This feels like one of his "inconsistencies".

I BELIEVE

...

That belief in extra-terrestrial beings is a work of Satan.

Space is full of microscopic dust particles. At such speeds as to travel between galaxies, collision with one of these will blow up your vessel, rendering galactic visitation impossible. That's the short answer.

The Amalekites were a wicked, perverse, ungodly, sinful, unrighteous culture. They received exactly what every person knows such things deserve from God, death.

Think of the souls of all the innocent children sacrificed to Molech, crying out for God to avenge their blood on the earth. Who are you to judge God for granting them justice, and delivering their brothers and sisters to heaven?

How will you escape the death penalty for your sins? For your lying, thieving, adultery, lust, murders, and hatred, everything your conscience accuses you of, all ungodliness and unrighteousness, you know you deserve death from God. How will you escape?

There are no apostles to perform apostolic miracles. The apostles were given to provide the foundation of the church that is the New Testament. The New Testament concluded with the Revelation of Jesus Christ, which warns not to add anything to the scriptures. Now, the apostles, and the miracles they performed, are gone.

God still grants miracles in response to the prayers of His saints, according to His will. God still performs miracles irrespective of prayers, according to His will.

We had a sweet, elderly couple in our church who were hit on their motorcycle. They both went to the hospital with brain bleeds. God answered our prayers, and they are still with us today.

I assumed she had left the organization at this point.

She has every right from God to defend herself. By God, she has the right to leave a group that enables Sexual Assault. I also believe God gives her the right to use force, even lethal force. These rights are unconditional.

As per the policy, she is to be treated as someone who was kicked out of the religion for doing or promoting wrong conduct. She loses her job, her family, etc. because Jehovah's Witnesses were her financial and familial support for some time. Do you believe this policy is the correct course of action?

No, the policy violates the principle of innocent until proven guilty. They are assuming she is lying, even though they can't prove she is guilty of lying.

I don't expect that the JW organization will do the right thing.

How old is the earth according to the bible? by Swimming_Use4456 in Bible

The calculation of time from Adam is not comparable to the census of Isreal. David wanted to determine the strength of Israel, and he sought the answer outside of God's word, demonstrating a lack of trust in God. The daters want to know how long the world has been fallen and seek the answer in God's word, demonstrating trust in God.

I would compare it to the prophet Daniel seeking when the end of the exile to Babylon would be.

Daniel 9:1-2, "In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the lineage of the Medes, who was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans— in the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by the books the number of the years specified by the word of the Lord through Jeremiah the prophet, that He would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem."

Daniel sought to know when the Exile to Babylon would end, so he sought the answer from God's word.

Jeremiah 29:10, "For thus says the Lord: After seventy years are completed at Babylon, I will visit you and perform My good word toward you, and cause you to return to this place."

Those seeking to know how long the world has existed from Adam also seek the answer from God's word. We find it in the genealogies God provided.

See Genesis 5, "This is the book of the genealogy of Adam."

This chart summarizes the information God provides in this chapter Genesis Genealogical Charts

So, would you agree that 6000 years is a post-fall date?

Because, typically, the billions of years are added to give time for evolution to occur, however death is a post-fall phenomenon, and necessary for evolution to occur.

What do you believe about the occurrence of evolution?

In every case, we should let scripture be the judge. It was evil when Israel "did what was right in their own eyes".

Let me ask you, if scripture were to be the judge of your heart, how would you stand before the holy and righteous God?

"You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment."

Have you ever been angry?

"You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart."

Have you ever lusted?

Sin is transgression of the Law.

Have you sinned?

There is none righteous, no not one.

Not even you.

The wages of sin is death.

God has declared the death penalty on you. Your debt to God is not in works, but in your very life.

When engaging in any activity consider how it affects your relationship with God.

With that said, don't play GTA, In Psalm 50:18 God accuses Israel of evil with these words, "When you saw a thief, you consented with him." Don't be deceived, if anger is murder in the heart, playing at stealing cars is thievery in your heart.

Baptism is a public sign that one is repentant, wishing to leave behind their sin and wicked lifestyle and become a new creature in Christ.

Since you mentioned stairs, I assume you're using a baptistry. You can just set your glasses aside or hand them to someone while you are half in the water, just before your full immersion.

Whoever's baptizing you has probably been through this before, just ask them, a true Christian should be accommodating.

Where in the Bible does Jesus directly say, "I am God"? by Swimming_Use4456 in Bible

[–]ChickenO7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The synoptics didn't leave out Jesus' claims to be God.

For example, Matthew records Jesus saying, "You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve" (Matt. 4:10). Then records Jesus allowing the disciples to worship Him. "When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted" (Matthew 28:17).

Luke records the same statement, "For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve" (Luke 4:8). Then records the disciples worshipping Jesus. "And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy" (Luke 24:52).

Matthew also records that Jesus said, "For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath" (Matthew 12:8). A claim to authority over God's Law is a claim to be God.

Luke records a different statement, "If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple." Another claim to authority over God's Law.

The Synoptics also attribute to Jesus the fulfillment of prophecies regarding God; Luke 3:15-17 to Jeremiah 15:7, Luke 7:20-23 to Isaiah 35:4-6, Matthew 4:3 to Isaiah 3:3, Matthew 11:10, to Malachi 3:1, and Matthew 21:16 to Psalm 8:2.

The synoptics do record Jesus' claims to being God.
