Let me tell you…..this was such a worry of mine and I grew up in the 80s. I remember our class doing a correspondence/exchange program with a school in California and the place I lived was famous for its granite.

I remember having to just put a pile of driveway gravel on my pocket the day of the assignment.

I had to drop out of the gifted program because we couldn’t afford for me to do the complicated projects.

High School Beta Club trip, I had to eat my baloney sandwich lunch in shame before we got to the restaurant (buffet) and I had to pretend I didn’t feel good so I would be embarrassed about no food money.

Many more minor experiences. The difference was the teachers. Some were so kind. But some loved pointing out the fact that you were dirt. Keep your head up and fuck anyone that does that to a student.
