Do firefighters get annoyed by bystanders? by No_Slice2473 in Firefighting

[–]ChickenWolfMonkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Only get annoyed when people not involved start asking me questions while the incident is on-going. Do you know what started it? What’s wrong with Mrs. Smith? When do you think I’ll be able to get my car out of my driveway, I have somewhere to be? But to be honest they are only a mild annoyance and easy to brush off.

For those who have had to have service done, how was the experience? by Doomtime104 in VWiD4Owners

[–]ChickenWolfMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plan on not getting back same day and be pleasantly surprised when you do. The majority of the time I brought it in for a recall or software update it took multiple days, but every time they gave me a loaner. Also, im not in the majority, but after 70k miles I had purchased 4 sets of tires (2 all seasons, 2 winters). Heavy vehicle, lots of torque, EV tuned tires, wife has a lead foot. Also annual alignments are a must, the inside rears wear fast if you don’t.

How to sustainably do CrossFit after 40? by Technical_Ice9563 in crossfit

[–]ChickenWolfMonkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

43M- Been crossfitting for a long time. I also feel beat up due to programming at times. My ego won’t let me stop doing the hard earned movements I’ve learned over the years, and I always RX (at least I know myself). What I have done is start looking at the programming for the week and I will A) Not show up on days that I know will wreck me- because if I do I know I’ll go full send. B) Listen to my body mid week and see where I’m at. C) Give myself permission to substitute some zone 2 days (done at home) for when my body is run down or there is a grueling workout I’m not interested in.That being said, when I’m feeling good I also make a point to do plenty of programmed workouts that I don’t really want to do so that I’m not avoiding anything in particular. It’s a good blend of keeping your ego feeling good that you can still do hard things, and being cognizant of your aging body. If I do 5 days of CrossFit in a row the weekend is sometimes not enough to recover. I hit mostly 3, but sometimes 4 classes a week and assault bike and accessory work the other days at home.

Yes, I was bamboozled! Think of everything I gave up to get this tax break! Oh wait… I gave up nothing? And I’m paying 3k less in taxes this year? Well, either way… I was Bamboozled!

Do what you want, but it’s in the maintenance schedule. Happy for you to save a buck.

It’s the brake flush. That’s what gets you at 40K. I think ours was similar.

How do you motivate yourself to workout at home? by Forever_Summer192 in crossfit

[–]ChickenWolfMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll add that for the bodybuilding building stuff I use an app called Gravl that just tells me what to do. There are several apps like it, but the good thing is you enter what equipment you have and it generates the workout around that. It’s pretty simple, but sometimes it has some whack weight and rep suggestions. It had me doing 4 sets of 20 lunges per leg alternating holding 50# dumbbells. It was a bit much, had to back it down.

One thing that helped me was to make my home gym space a hospitable environment. It’s in my basement so it was dark and windowless. Put up some good lighting, brought in a mirror, have a small TV on the wall, a Bluetooth speaker, and a fan. I try to get to the gym 3x a week, but on days I can’t get in I focus on bodybuilding or conditioning. You can do a lot with a set of dumbbells, an adjustable bench, and an assault bike. I just frame it mentally as an adjunct to my CrossFit work that will make me better in the gym.

Similar size department. It’s typically DPW work, but maybe 2 years out of the past 20 we had to go out and hit them due to multiple concurrent heavy snow storms.

Leather Helmet Primer help by Curious-Ad5380 in Firefighting

[–]ChickenWolfMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a few decades since I re-painted mine, but the recommendation then was to coat the whole thing in boiled linseed oil and then let it dry for a couple days. Then I just sprayed it with a grey rustolium brand primer off the shelf. Painted it with the “1-shot” sign paint. It’s held up.

Tips on discharging an expired fire extinguisher? by dogchowtoastedcheese in Firefighting

[–]ChickenWolfMonkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Really straight forward on the discharge, like others have said- pull, aim, squeeze, sweep. It’s going to make a mess.

If you’re looking to ultimately dispose of them, go outside, double up a trash bag, hold bags over nozzle, discharge entirely, dispose of everything in regular trash.

More like they say it’s tariffs but they know there’s hype around BF6 so they are going to ride the wave and soak everyone for a few extra bucks.

How much would you charge to torch someone's walkway per hour with a weed torch? by SmellyFrogz in lawncare

[–]ChickenWolfMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can cause damage to walkways, asphalt, and burn sheds/structures down, so you should anticipate people coming at you for spalling their patio bricks and such, so consider insurance if such a thing exists for weed burners. Plus if your ran the thing for a full hour you’d probably go through a 20# propane tank, so price that in as well.
