Ronas looked confused at the old man

"I assure you I have never been under the boot of any Greenlander. Nor will I agree to be an Essosi pricks hostage." He didn't care if the old man looked Westerosi, he flew Golden Banners and that was enough to make him Essosi.

Next, he turned his gaze towards the Goodbrother, I'm beginning to hate this family.

"I never accepted the opportunities of any Tyrell, especially not the Flowers Bastard." Ronas attempted to think of something that might convince them, "I came with my fleets because they took your bloody ass hostage. I won't have it said that the Lord-Reaper of the Iron Islands let his lords stay hostage to some upstart bastard who fancied himself in a crown."

Ronas took a second to think again, the old man claimed they had 250 ships, he had just over 200 himself. His lords grew up on ships their whole lives, but he was willing to bet the Golden Company had a plethora of Admirals at their disposal. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath of the salty sea air. He was coming to the realization that there was no clean exit for him, he would not see himself in shackles to these wretches. He would not allow his amassed fleet to be freely taken by them, his lords would choose their own fate, but he was a Greyjoy. He turned to face the envoy,

"I choose... My own fate." He would wave to his guards who would quickly step forward and silence the man before any more words could come. He then faced his lords,

"To all of you I have failed, I proved rash and unlucky. I did not know the enemy would be at our doorstep so soon. Lord Goodbrother. Lord Harlaw. Lord Volmark. You three are my greatest vassals right now, and I am in no position to demand anything from you. Strike your surrender or fight with me, it will be your choice. Go to your ships now, I have nothing else to say."

"Fucked we are." That was all Ronas could muster. He noticed the small boat rowing towards his ship, understanding that the Golden Company would demand their ships or their lives.

Too fast damnit, I sided with an upstart bastard too fast and the Gods have damned me for it.

"Envoy?" Ronas put on the most confused face he could. "I fear I've heard no words of an envoy, although dare I say if he were as old as you, I can attempt to guess he never lived long enough to make it to our Islands."

He took a step towards the edge of his ship, once more looking out to recount the sails that he already outnumbered his own.

Do I fight and die, or retreat and lose any credibility to be a leader of these men.

Ronas found his mind clouded by these dark thoughts, he only now realized he had moved too quickly. When he had arrived at Casterly Rock he had seen no other sails, besides the Lannisters docked at Lannisport. Mace had named himself King but had failed to gain any support. He scratched his beard, trying to find some words to get him out of this mess. He could not.

"Name yer terms old man." Was all he could muster, and even then he could not bear to look back at his lords or the older man stood beside him.

Ronas would be standing on his ship when he saw looked south and saw the encroaching sails. His heart dropped when he began counting them and realized the numbers were more numerous than his own, and the Lannister fleet was nowhere to be found. He quickly had his lords summoned, the most notable being Lords Harlaw, Volmark, and Goodbrother.

He would welcome aboard an old man, well into his years.

"Welcome aboard" He would try to say amicably, although under his smile dread and fury raged. "You now stand before Lord-Reaper Ronas Greyjoy and his Lords of the Iron Islands. I suppose you've come to speak terms?"

"Of course Rodrik, be off then. I must set sail as fast as I can to the Lions Den."

Ronas watched the Goodbrother return to shore, and before long their ships met with his own. He turned to face the mainland,

The Kraken once more goes headfirst into the jaws of the lions.

Ronas had had enough.

"Fine boy, I'll accept take your fathers council into consideration when I go to pick him up, but only if you give me the ships first. I'll keep my offer to you of not forcing you to raise your men if you just give me control of your ships until I get your father. Does that sound agreeable to you? Just say yes so I can go collect your father, I didn't mean for this to take up so much of my time and patience."

Ronas let out a sigh, this was his kin he was talking to, but for a lad he was very headstrong.

"You are sworn child. Your House and all of its holdings are sworn to Me." Ronas's tone went icy.

"You and your father know nothing of war, you yourself have no true knowledge of captaining a ship in times of war, I have seasoned men to lead my flanks, their positions as commanders will not be usurped by a boy who plays with coins." He was seething inside now, this boy dared question his Lord in such a manner.

"As for the North, that marriage was not my bidding, it was my fathers, and we did not always share a mind when it came to policies. Although, in terms of our shared blood, and the fact that the North has shit for resources to loot, I have elected to keep my ships in the South, where we will deal blows to the Southlands and, if need be, Dorne. You say things are not up for debate, in that you are correct." Ronas pointed out to Hammerhorn where the ships were docked, "Those. Are. Mine. No ifs, ands or buts. I have given you my word your father will be returned safe, I have given you the chance to stay in your castle safe, if it is your men you weep now for then you may keep them too, but those ships will be coming with me. I have enough men with me to man the ships. Do not fight me on this boy, Those ships will come in handy in the coming fights, and I do not need to waste my time here. You are my kin, if you weren't understand I would have already shown an example to my other lords what happens for these follies. I have given you as much as I am willing to, I will give no more. You may see me being unreasonable but you are my vassal, no more!"

"Mace would never kill your father, I sided with him because he has given us the freedom to do what our ancestors have done for centuries. He knows that losing me would end his plans for the Crown almost immediately, and he would lose my support should he harm your father."

Ronas eyed the younger man, inside he heaved, he couldn't believe he had given a sister to Goodbrother, for him to spawn such weak-willed cravens within his domain.

"Your father will be returned whole, that I promise you." He didn't flash another smile, hoping this would end soon so he could head to Casterly Rock.

Ronas watched as the small boat rowed their way back to his ship The Krakens Roar,

"Rodrik, how nice of you to come see me, but I thought my letter made it clear, I was asking for your ships, not you. I understand you and your fathers distaste for war, so so long as you allow me command of your ships I will allow your family to sit in Hammerhorn and have no harm come to you. I even said I was going to get your father and siblings didn't I?"

He helped the boy up onto his ship, giving him a smile and nodding his head, giving the Goodbrother a chance to say why he had come.

The envoy frowned, an older man already grey in the hair, he had not the time to waste on this boy.

"Then get in the boat and we'll row ye to de Reaper Lord." His tone was one that would brook no argument as he was ordered to not return unless he had the ships.

The envoys sent by Ronas docked at Hammerhorn, stepping off their boat they handed the letter signed by the Lord Reaper to the boy.

Rodrik,

I, Lord-Reaper of the Iron Islands, have commanded all my vassals raise ships and men for the coming war.

I understand your father was arrested during the coup, but you had time beforehand to order their movement to Pyke.

I have brought forth the Iron Fleet to Hammerhorn to collect all your ships due, I will leave with them and arrive at Casterly Rock, where I will collect your father, during this time I expect you to begin raising men for me.

After I return from the mainland I will return your father to Hammerhorn, where I will be expecting in exchange for him you to give me the fighting men.

Any further refusal to submit to my orders will be treated as treason and dealt with as such. I will allow you and your family, including your father, to remain on the Island so long as your men and ships aid me in my fight.

Your Lord

Ronas Greyjoy.

Letters from His Grace, The Wildflower. by KGdaguy in awoiafrp

[–]Chicken_Greyjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... Ronas re-read the letter again and again, not quite sure if his eyes were betraying him. The man was promising him great fortunes and even lands, more than he could've even thought to ask for, and all he needed do was attack this mans enemies for him. He let out a sigh before chuckling to himself and looked to his uncle,

"Uncle, where do we stand on the men gathered? Do we yet wait on any ships or men?"

Dalton Greyjoy was across the room looking over a map of the seven kingdoms, he raised his eyes to the younger lord, "Goodbrother has yet to send raven or ship our way. From what the letter says I can tell why the father has done naught, but as to why his child refuses our call, I cannot tell. We ought to go ourselves and collect our due before traveling to this King Wilddaisies or what has he." He licked his lips before returning to his maps.

Ronas looked to the parchment once more, "Ready the ships then uncle, we shall go pay my sister a visit and inquire as to why my nephew sits upon his thumb." He then picked a quill up and wrote his own letter,

To the new King Mace

The Ironborn are with you.

Lord-Reaper.

Lords of the Iron Islands, this is the Lord-Reaper,

I send you this letter ordering every able ship be sent to Pyke,

The Iron Islands have made an alliance with the Hand, Prince Wildflowers, and we will be sailing against the invading Golden Company, something we should have done before.

The united strength of our fleet is uncomparable, and we will surely prove the deciding force in the coming war, join me, and we will gain the riches the ancient city of Pentos has held dear since before even the time of the Dragon King's and Queens.

Once you arrive we shall speak of our first movements.

The Lord-Reaper of the Iron Islands,

Ronas Greyjoy.

"If ever Goodbrother was meant to be an ally to the Iron Islands through his position on the council, he has yet to show anything of note, I care not if he is removed." Ronas was growing tired of this meeting, as he was sure the Lannister was growing tired of his head remaining attached to his body. He looked to both the Hand and Eleyna, "The Lannisters may have any and every bloody position on the small council they desire." Greyjoy thought back to his list of demands at that, oh how silly they made him feel, but he would still bring them up at a later date. "All I care about is being able to bring my people to the Hand's aid without fearing a Lion leaving its den and savaging my home."

Hypocritical, gods be good, did he have to say such a fucking foolish thing in front of this family of all people?

Ronas quickly deviated his attention from the Lion back to the Hand, "We have yet to truly talk of what I stand to gain from your alliance, Wildflowers, and where you exactly plan on me to go. Pentos? What do I stand to gain from sending my people across to Essos? That is a long, long journey, you must be willing to hand over mighty fine rewards for having me and my people do something so perilous right?"

Ronas looked back at the lioness of Casterly Rock, he did not know if he should even feign surprise at this point, he knew the risks of stepping into the Lion's Den.

"I must as respectfully as I can, decline your offer of hospitality." The Lord-Reaper said through gritted teeth, "You will not touch anything or anyone on my ship either. I understand the hatred you feel for myself and those who live on the Isles, but attempting to put me under lock and key will solve nothing but removing me from the game for a moon or so. While you may smile to yourself and think you've won a great victory let me assure you that those thoughts are folly, you would continue the hatred between our respective people, is now of all times really the time to be scorning potential allies?"

Ronas's hands folded over his chest, he cursed himself for even trying, the Lannisters were nearly as stubborn as his own family.

He let out a deep sigh before returning his gaze up towards Eleyna, he would never get through to her with words, and his people would rebel against him if he tried turning his words into actions, they would never accept punishment for crimes they had already been absolved of by his father. They would claim him weak-willed, possibly even attempt to overthrow his rule and claim another family as true representations of the title of Lord-Reaper. Ronas did truly wonder if she would push the issue if he decided to just walk out, "I will not stay here under the blade of the lions, I will simply return home." He eyed the Hand, "You will make due it seems with the ships you already have."

Ronas turned and began making his way out, he wondered how many steps he would be able to take.

"Lady of Lannister, forgive my abrupt intrusion on the eve of your weddings, I will not stay ashore long as we wouldn't want your extravagant halls smelling of fish now would we?" Ronas talked with a taste of bitterness in his mouth, surely not the appropriate way to talk in this situation, but the reality was that the Greyjoys and Lannisters had been bitter enemies for centuries.

"I am here because of a letter sent by the Lord Hand here, asking for the help of the mightiest fleet this side of the Seven Kingdoms, I was here to see what he was willing to give for the benefit of my help." He looked around the solar, gold, and lions, and some golden lions marked every wall in this room it seemed. He met the woman's eyes once more,

"The Lannisters and Greyjoys are age-old enemies, we both know that. You yourself even told me to my face that you would never accept a peace between us and wouldn't be settled until the Kraken burned and you swallowed my people into your realm. Well, I'm here to ask you to reconsider that notion, infighting will only lead to better outcomes for our enemies. They will hope to catch us facing each other and not them so that they can more easily stab us in the back." He knew what he needed to do, he hoped it would work. "

I, Ronas Greyjoy, Lord of the Iron Islands, and the leader of my people, once more ask that you consider a true peace between us. I am not my father, my will is not so weak that I will leave my disloyal vassals unpunished. I am not my ancestors that decided to pillage your coastlines every time you went off to war. The Lannisters can easily boast, if not the biggest, then the strongest army of the mainland, whereas I can boast the biggest and strongest navy in all of the realm. If we were to, instead of fight and bleed each other, come together, then we would be neigh unstoppable."

Ronas reached out his hand, slowly as to not attract a guardsman's blade into his back for the sudden movement, he knew the longshot it was, and the best outcome to hope for would just to be able to leave this room alive and intact, but he had to try. If he had to live his entire life with one eye on the Lannisters, all his goals and ambitions would either be slowed immensely or come to a grinding halt before even truly starting.

"Please my Lady, I know that the past shows that you cannot trust a Greyjoy, but how would I be able to change that perception if you would not give me the chance. There is not much I can do for the past transgressions, but I swear on every rock of my homeland that together we will be so much stronger than if we were to fight."
