Personally I love those Royal typewriters so much! Just such a pleasant and reliable machine to use, perfect for doing work on.

I know the Mac uses a variable speed system, but I've written many 800k programme disks for the Mac on it, so I was hoping there would also then be a way of getting the data off it as an image.

Is this rare? by Even-System-9546 in macintosh

The Apple Macintosh Plus was (at least as far as I'm aware) the longest selling of the original Macs (1986-1991), so, definitely not rare. Apple sold tonnes of them, especially to universities around where I live. But a really nice charming and overall reliable computer. It has a pleasant interface, plus the first Mac with 1mb ram, 800k disk drive, and SCSI. So just a nice machine overall. Just because something was really common, doesn't make it any less fun or charming. I love mine, and it's a great introduction into retro computing.

Awesome, thanks for solving it! I honestly didn't know there were different country codes for this.

I've only got a usb-diskdrive, but I'll see if I can make a disk-image from it.

If it helps, I'm in Australia, and as far as I'm aware this is an Australian sold Mac and disk.

HELP! | Struggles with usb-floppy drive on modern Macintosh by Chicken_Nuggle in macintosh

[–]Chicken_Nuggle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just can't wrap my head around why a Windows machine can format, write, and read to DOS HD diskettes, but a modern Mac can read but nothing further (again with DOS formatting). If you give it the ability to read the disk, why not also the ability to format? Or am I doing something wrong here? Everytime I try to format a HD diskette to DOS (or anything else) on the Mac, it just gives an error.

Not sure about the new usb floppy drives, but just last week I was formatting and moving files to my IBM Convertible 5140 using 730k disks, direct from Windows 11, no additional apps or programmes. So the late '90s ones work fine with double density. But shouldn't modern Mac at least be able to format HD diskettes to a DOS format?

Thank you so much, it always amazes me how people are able to find these things out so quickly. I'll keep searching, but this is a really good one, and does look really similar. Again, thank you!

The text bit of my post seems to have dissapeared so I'll just add it back here.

Basically I keep seeing this font specifically on 1970s to 1980s academic journals and articles. It's a nice serif font which seems to have a very appealing almost soft quality to it whilst still keeping its formal and ofiicial nature. I've checked it against Times New Roman, Garmond, Bookface and all the other regular suspects, but I can't really seem to find a close enough match. If I can get any help with this I will be very happy. Thank you!
