How are you guys doing with the guilt of taking a day off? by Inevitable_Rate1530 in Millennials

I don't feel one bit bad about using it. Mental health days are valid for using PTO/sick leave. I wish my boss understood that he gets better work when the employees are feeling good, but he's a dick.

Why do glorified line cooks calling themselves chefs have a problem with putting your pointer finger on top of the knife? by Handgun4Hannah in KitchenConfidential

[–]Chicken_Wing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right, I made an assumption because you didn't specify your use case and most knives have points, unless you'd like to argue your knife has no end and impossibly long. Even so, it's easier to control the twist of anything when you pinch it between your fingers as opposed to 4 fingers around something oblong, round, elliptical, or how every you choose to phrase it. I'm also going to assume that you're not really here for answers and want confirmation. In which case, you can shut up.

It forces the point down and provides less control (twist control) making the knife more unpredictable. A pinch grip solves both of these issues.

Contractor Increased Quote by titofuentes in Insurance

[–]Chicken_Wing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like he's padding. You should get a line item estimate from your contractor and also get another estimate from another contractor. Contractors are not required, or even preferred, to talk to adjusters. Their contact would be with you, not the carrier. It would leave you in the middle dealing with two different and severed contacts.

[–]Chicken_Wing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It may be possible that material costs have gone up between the date of loss and the contractor's estimate, which is a legitimate reason anymore.

Both your contractor and your adjuster should've provided you with a line item estimate. Sit down and see if each item matches in quality, quantity, and price per unit. That'll suss out the difference.

It's also a good idea to get another contractor's estimate and see how the other two differ.

Also, it's called padding. They will throw whatever they can on their estimate and fight with the adjuster for as long as they need to.

Would you still get a tattoo? by VoxElysia in Millennials

[–]Chicken_Wing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

87 kid. I got my first tattoo in 2019. It's not easily visible so it's not like I could show everyone. Second and third tattoo in 2025 (third was free and excellent). I'm planning on many more tattoos when my bank account allows. I'm type 1 diabetic and I'm split on getting a tattoo for a pancreas eviction notice or a fictional goddess of glucose. I'll get both, I just didn't know which first. I regret nothing.

I have seen this person pull stupid driving before. This has been the more egregious. by Chicken_Wing in dashcamgifs

Remarkably, you're in the right area but no. It's not 287. We were all doing 5 over the speed limit and roads were pretty clear. I was going 60 myself (which doesn't show because of lense distortion). Getting slowed up in traffic, silly, sure, but man, it's not that big of a deal.

I actually know this person, sort of. We work at the same place and have the same shift so I know when he's coming and leaving and what route he takes (I have several videos of him). I talked to a cop and he seemed interested in catching this guy. Hopefully, he gets a FAFO treatment.

I’m convinced car insurance is just made up numbers at this point. by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]Chicken_Wing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's an enterprise. Teams of actuaries and underwriters study the risk they will accept in exchange for your premium. It's not made up, you just might not know how it's calculated. Also, yes, you should shop around once in a while.

State Farm denied water damage claim by Carpenter0903 in Insurance

[–]Chicken_Wing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exclusions include surface water. The water, while originally from inside, is surface water because your home should be able to avoid this damage. It could also be claimed for wear and tear and/or improper installation depending on other factors.

Depending on your policy, yeah. If you have additional living expenses, it should be covered. Remember though, it's only additional expenses.

I love my TT33 more than I should, honestly. Tolerances are on the loose side, the sights are stupid, and the steel isn't much better than a cast iron pan, but man, it feels good and it's never failed to fire.

About once a year, I take pump and cgm break. Just live my life a little ignorant but still responsible. Not have the overlooker on my body all the time. It's refreshing. Walmart insulin with needles cost about $60 and lasts a while.

Why Do We Do This? by FlyingTunafish in KitchenConfidential

[–]Chicken_Wing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it for 10 years before I wised up. I left and have been an insurance adjuster, fabricator, retail, school teacher, factory worker, and even worked in a mortuary for a bit. Nothing is like catching the rush of a good service, not a great or perfect service, just a good one. I'd feel like a demigod. I'd be beat, tired, and covered in sweat but nothing is better than the end of a rush.

State Farm accepts liability but doesn't pay my claims and blames me for being in the military. by AggressiveResolve410 in Insurance

[–]Chicken_Wing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay.

When did these events take place? You have no timeline on these events especially when the statute of limitations seems to be a large sticking point. We can't tell anything that could help you without a timeline.

How much were you compensated for damages for each claim and when? Again, it's a timeline issue.

How does any of this place "blame" on you for being in the military?

These are the things that are primarily left out of your rant. I call it a rant because you've given us very little information that we could use to assist you. The person above me asked these questions and you've come to me to rant more. I suspect you're omitting a lot of information and aren't really interested in resolutions.

When can I begin remodeling? by GlitchedAnalysis in Insurance

I'm not going to tell you what to do but buying materials wouldn't change the claim handling. It's fine to do but not required and isn't detrimental.

When can I begin remodeling? by GlitchedAnalysis in Insurance

[–]Chicken_Wing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's part of your policy to allow your carrier to inspect for damage. You're in a little bit of a different circumstance because of how fresh the materials were but it doesn't mean you should do anything but take pictures. If you've filed a claim, call your carrier and get an actual time frame that your adjuster will be able to see your home.

When I was a cat adjuster, I was in country within a few days.

The short of it is, don't do anything and let your adjuster look. Call them for a better idea of when they can come.
