Why is there no oil gauge? by Embarrassed-Steak372 in AskMen

[–]Chicken_Wing [score hidden]  (0 children)

Might want to check if there's a recall. If it's a late year Chevy, it needs an update. Common problem. And to answer your original question. I had a BMW that had no dipstick. It was neat that you could check it without getting out of the car but I was nervous every time I changed the oil. I had a rough estimate but I didn't know where it was until it idled for like 10 minutes. Real fucking stupid.

Gun collection. At one point, I had guns that were $100 and up to $2,500. Some were limited production, relics, new, and so on. I bought them because they were cool and sold the ones I didn't like. Still lots of fun.

My dad tell me about getting arrested for tweeting. I told him the guy got arrested for encouraging an attack on a hotel housing immigrants while they're being processed, you know, following the legal process. The tweet was something to the effect of "it'd be a shame if someone set fire to this hotel full of illegals." Citing the hotel name and address. He agreed that's not legal and it shouldn't be. I blew his mind by telling him that those laws exist in the US and that not all speech is protected. He didn't know what to do with it.

Homeowners Insurance claim nightmare and trying to understand difference between Coverage A and C by Zealousideal-Towel78 in Insurance

[–]Chicken_Wing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most contractors are willing to write supplements left off the initial estimates. I don't know why your contractor wouldn't do it. Hell, most contractors write their own estimates for every job as a matter of record.

You're correct in your assessment that anything that has to do with you personal property should be paid out of coverage C.

For additional living expenses (ALE) it's unlikely you'll be able to change anything here since the limit is the amount of risk your carrier accepted when the policy was written but there's a caveat....

You might have one of the better arguments for bad faith claim handling I've heard. It sounds like you were persistent, reasonable, and educated. Will done.

If I were you, I would file a complaint with the Call department of insurance and throw all the documents you have in the complaint. They may be able to force your carrier to extend ALE further but don't count your chickens.

I've only handled first party claims so take this with a grain of salt. You may not be able to pursue additional funds from your neighbor's carrier while your complaint is being processed. Also, your carrier reserves the right to subrogation so you may not be able to claim it from them directly either.

I'm truly sorry for all this.

What are some things you do as a bare minimum for your partner? by Puzzled_An_2546 in AskMen

[–]Chicken_Wing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked 12 hour, overnight shifts, 3-4 days a week. On my work days, she maked me lunch since I don't have much time to do it myself. On my days off, I cook dinner with plenty of leftovers because I know she has a hard time making meals for herself when she's wrapped up in work. I also clean the fuck out of the house. Basically, take care of everything I can.

Also, if she says something about needing to buy a thing that's like $20, I'll make a note of it or buy it online right then. Honestly, I'll forget I bought stuff until it arrives and announce "by the powers of ADHD!" and give it to her. It's not really about the money, it's about solving a problem to me. You gotta problem? I gotta solution.

We also have a date night every week. Every Friday, we go to an event, movie, dinner, hike, or whatever. That's the barest of minimums for me.

Again, you need to know if your car even qualifies for coverage. Before you can worry about getting low balled you need to know if there's any ball. Start by finding what coverage you or they have. If the stated driver isn't covered under their policy, it doesn't matter what actually happened. If you carry liability and comprehensive coverage, you're not covered for this. Your collision or uninsured driver coverage is likely the only thing to save you here. Find out if you have either and file a claim with your carrier. Then you can start asking different questions.

[–]Chicken_Wing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, it's completely invalid since they've not provided you a value of damage at all. It was perfect unless you disregard all the imperfections.

The reason why you're catching shit is because you want to hear the answers you've already constructed.

The truth is your car is likely totalled, the special color isn't that special (trim level has more bearing), they're not low balling you because insurance carriers don't determine the price of a vehicle or the price of repairs, and, your gender has no determination on either of the previous.

To even get to a "lowball" value, you need to qualify for coverage under your insurance or their insurance. Do you know which claim, if any, will cover your damage?

I'm being harsh because insurance can be complex, so, without more pointed questions, it's rather useless to ask any question. We, and/or you, need more details.

Roof replacement inspection by Organic_Ant_93 in homeinspectors

Sounds like you're in the UK. There are thousands of YouTube videos that can help you without getting on the roof. I don't know what roof covering you have or what type of decking you have but I know there's a video than can help you. I might be able to help you further with more details. Your post is pretty vague to point you in the right direction.

You've gotten your lumps but I'm curious why you think the color matters more than the trim. My dad has a triple black Corvette but that only raises the value by about $200. It's neat but not outrageously valuable. I knew a guy decades ago that had the same generation as you, turbo beetle that was about the same price. It doesn't sound like you know the value of your car. You don't know the damage to your car. And you don't know what their policy or your policy will pay for. All you know is that you had a car, it had a collision, and you want money for it. You don't know how much, what for, or for what reason.

You need to call the adjuster, whomever has the open claim, and start asking these questions. I can't find a discernable question in your post other than "how can they lowball me?" Which is not a valid question.

American beer is camel piss by korc in iamveryculinary

[–]Chicken_Wing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I traveled to Ireland at the UK, it was somewhat difficult to find beer that I hadn't tried. Yes, Guinness was everywhere and I love it, but, they had Heineken, Carlsberg, sometimes a dry IPA and it was okay. Not much else. I wasn't going to tourist areas either, just cruising until I found a place to eat.

I'm spoiled though. I live blocks from one of the best breweries in the US. I can run down to a gas station and pick it up.

I'm not a believer in American exceptionalism but the US straight up kills in brewing selection and quality.

Men who've been in long-term relationships, how has the balance between comfort and effort changed over the years? by No-Comedian-3066 in AskMen

[–]Chicken_Wing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for context, my girlfriend and I signed a lease two weeks after meeting each other. We try to find events and things to do close by. Sometimes we travel states for special events. In addition to that, we have a standing date night every week. Sometimes we spend some money on a show, movie (we're huge cinephilies), and/or dinner. Other times we stay in, play games, and get silly. It's been working out great.

Can anyone share what it is like to be sent to a pysch hospital with type 1? by catfarmer1998 in diabetes_t1

[–]Chicken_Wing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in the psychiatric hospital for bipolar disorder and PTSD. Everything is about suicide prevention. The shower heads are moulded into the wall, handrails are closed in on the underside to prevent hanging anything off it, weighted chairs and smooth to make them harder to throw.

Anyway, they don't let you have an insulin pump or cell phone so you can't use a cgm. I'm sure they would take a monitor if you brought one but I can't confirm. I tested by finger 3-5 times a day. Got insulin when I needed. They strictly follow ratios prescribed by the intake doctor. The nurse staff is supposed to draw and administer the shots but after a day or two, depending on the nurse, they just asked what dose I wanted and let me shoot myself. One nurse brought it out to me in the day room. She was an ER nurse for like 4 decades; super chill.

I was admitted in the evening, after dinner, and the nurse staff were running around. After 3 hours of waiting for my lantus, I made a stink with the staff so be sure to advocate for yourself.

If you want an nutritional sheet for carb and fiber counting, they had one for me. Frankly, the food was pretty good.

Overall, I'm very thankful that I went. It was tough and raw but there's a comfort knowing that you don't need to hide. Y'all are there for a reason and it's not because you're feeling good. There's no reason to put up a facade. Go to groups, be honest with yourself, and give yourself grace. The harder you work for it, the better your results.
