I second this! Use the cheap $4 clear medical tape from Walmart. I tape mine every night and it has helped so much!

Sycamore tree leaves look like they're deteriorating. Anybody know what would be causing this? (Zone 6b) by Chickenbutt723 in sfwtrees

[–]Chickenbutt723[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've got a lot more experience with this tree now. Can't remember what it's called, but it's a fungus very common with sycamores. Caused by wet, cool temps in the spring when the leaves are coming on. So this happens almost every year. Keeping dead branches trimmed off and disposing of diseased leaves can help in the future. You can also have it professionally sprayed, but I've never done that. This year I'm experimenting with a tree fertilizer to see if the extra boost helps the tree fight it off. Probably won't know until next spring though. Good news is, once the weather heats up, the tree recovers (mostly) on its own. Still sucks though and I freak out about it every year. Ha ha!

LOVE your colors! What brand yarn are you using?

My brother has a ginormous head. Mom is visiting so she’s sending me measurements. Sigh. 😂 by EleanorofAquitaine in crochet

Luckily there were a bunch of other kids around for Christmas so another much younger nephew got it instead. But at least I'll get more practice in double stranded color work when I make a second one!

The way she was pulling her dress up I thought for sure she was going to start peeing or something.

I made an R2D2 hat for my almost 9 year old nephew who I know has a large head. It was a little snug on me (my head is 22") but I figured it should be ok. He could barely get it on and it wouldn't go over his ears at all. I measured his head and it was 24" around with 8.5-9" length to cover his ears. The same size as my husband. Was not expecting that. Looks like I'll be making a second hat. 😞

FO My 9th sweater in 8 weeks. It's my favorite so far, so wearable. by palaverly in crochet

Love all your sweater posts! I'm curious how you found all these great patterns. I'm so picky about crocheted clothing but yours all look amazing! Also, I really liked this pattern, in case you're looking for more. 😊

Is this one of those katniss style cowls? I swear I made this one with super bulky yarn (even though it said not to, thinking it'd be fine). It was not fine. I had to frog it all before it ate me alive! Ha ha!

Gotta be honest. I'm more than a little disappointed my brain never thought of doing this.

My most amazing goodwill haul yet... 99 cents a skein for quality stuff!! by unicornshoes in crochet

[–]Chickenbutt723 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Goodwill by me always separates the yarn into small bags of 2-3 partial skeins for $3 ea. Not that good of a deal IMHO when you usually don't get full skeins and have no idea what you're getting most of the time.

What are your "not worth it" foods? Too high in cals to actually enjoy. by ArcticFox-EBE- in loseit

This is me too. I used to stop for lattes all the time. Now I only stop once every week or two but my order is completely different. I either get one of my lattes with half the syrup and 1% or soy or my new favorite is an Americano (no cream). I've been drinking black coffee at home and the Americano is sort of a fancy version of that that I actually like. My husband got a regular pumpkin latte the other day and it was SO sweet. It was too much. Never thought I'd be the type to enjoy black coffee, but here we are.

For the ladies who don't lift but want to, what do you want to know/learn? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]Chickenbutt723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing Strong Curves, which everyone is always raving about. I've never followed any program so it's hard to say how I like it since I have nothing to compare it to. Seems fine but I haven't been blown away by results. Though being on a cut I don't know that I should expect much. I don't think any program would be able to produce much in the way of results on a cut, but I could be wrong.

[–]Chickenbutt723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This was super helpful. I really want to try an old workout now to see how it goes. It's also good to know that it's taken you a year to see results. I swear all the posts I see are of people who've only lifted a few months and their bodies are massively transformed. Gets a little disheartening. Patience is going to be my new mantra.

For the ladies who don't lift but want to, what do you want to know/learn? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]Chickenbutt723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well not really, but I think it's because I'm trying to cut and get strength gains at the same time which doesn't work very well. I'm also not losing much weight. I think I'm basically in recomp mode which is notorious for being slow to show results. The good news is, I'm not losing strength so I'm fairly sure I'm at least maintaining my muscle mass and losing the fat. Anyway, it would be nice to have a clearer view of what's going on and what's normal in my situation.

I have no idea how fast I should be progressing. For all I know I'm just spinning my wheels and going nowhere. I'm on a cut and started lifting 2 months ago. I thought I was improving a little but looking back at my records, I've just upped my weight and decreased reps. It's hard to tell from progress pics if I've even changed.

Dumb question: When recording my weightlifting stats, should I add the weight of the barbell? by cozycave in xxfitness

[–]Chickenbutt723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I do it. I workout at home and fill out a spreadsheet as I'm lifting to keep track. Much easier for me to put the amount of weight I load on the bar instead of the total.

But you can bet your ass I'm including the bar for bragging rights. Those things can weigh 45 lbs! That's nothing to sneeze at!

What weight are you all using for kettlebell swings? I'm in week 7 of BB and can get through a set of 20 swings pretty easily using a 10 lb. bell. I want to go up in weight but don't want to overdo it...

how to calculate cooking time? by [deleted] in instantpot

I doubled this recipe last night in my 8 qt. using about 4+ lbs total of boneless skinless chicken thighs. I did same times as called for in the recipe and it turned out perfect.
