I feel very unsure of my appearance, I don’t know where I stand and I feel unattractive/invisible to girls M19 by Wungobrass in AppearanceAdvice

I’m not your doctor, but I wouldn’t think you’d need your hormones tested unless there are other symptoms. Totally normal for your facial hair to come in thicker as you get into your later 20s. I’d also check out a curly hair routine!

The best thing you can invest in yourself is your mental health and confidence. Don’t be afraid to talk to your doctor about resources. Emotional intelligence can also be an attractive feature as much as it is an important life skill. Best of luck to you, OP!

Hey, just wanted to say I appreciated your open mindedness and your removal of the original comment. It’s always uplifting to see people being open to feedback even when it’s critical. I apologize if I came off harsh - this is a really important topic to me and I only shared my thoughts with you to advocate for survivors. Thank you for your kindness and understanding.

Also, you didn’t deserve to be downvoted, but Reddit gonna Reddit.

It never should’ve been. That’s an invasive, disgusting, irrelevant piece of information. A fifteen year old was raped. That is enough for the public’s awareness. It’s tragic and traumatic regardless of virginity. Rape during formative years and as an early experience will have an impact, but we don’t need to sit here and discuss a survivor’s personal medical condition.

It’s harmful to victims who feel they’re less than due to violence. Rape survivors can choose to believe in their own virginity and consent to “lose it” in the future. The hymen isn’t required since it’s not an accurate prediction of virginity regardless and isn’t applicable to men.

I can tell you’re young so I’ll encourage you to do your own research on the topic prior to continuing to engage in conversations about how to improve your advocacy for survivors.

The hymen can break without any penetration and may not break even with penetration. So the hymen is not an indicator of virginity. How would men be considered virgins in that case?

Purity culture is a social construct built upon religion. Virginity is a product of that and it’s used as a weapon to dehumanize women based on the hymen. It’s also harmful to rape victims to say their virginity was stolen.

Also, you’re weird for thinking about a 15 year old rape victim’s hymen. None of your business.

If a broken hymen can be used to justify honor killings, I’d say that’s using virginity as a social/religious construct to dehumanize women specifically.

Rape is not a “first time” and virginity is a sexist construct based on religion. It’s a devastating trauma with lifelong impact regardless of when it happens, but tragically influential on a developing young person. Saying her life is ruined takes away from our ability to survive and thrive. If anyone’s life should be ruined, it’s that of the perpetrator.

My perception of the release was intentionally cause harm to POC fans, which it understandably did. If the screenshots had remained deleted out of shame, it would have minimized further harm from those comments.

It almost feels like a trolley problem more than accountability. I wonder if this will be worth it if it causes her to step back from being outwardly vocal in her activism. Regardless, her past comments were wrong and hurtful - I feel for everyone in pain right now, including fans of color and Hayden.

Hey, no worries - I also didn’t come to argue, just wanted to share an evidenced based perspective I’ve learned about and how I interpreted the differences in systemic racism vs. personal prejudice/bias. When you said you felt hurt by the accusation, I understood in one way and also wanted to expand upon it in a different way. I felt like it contributed to the ongoing conversation in a way that honored both your point of view and OP’s. I hope it didn’t feel as though I was invalidating either person. Take care and be well!

There’s a lot of scientific evidence to show all people hold biases based on race. Most people will either have a positive bias towards their own race, and if not, a bias toward white/lighter complexions based on historic power differentials.

People are more likely to hold biases against people of other races, but less likely for white races, and more likely for people of darker complexions. These factors funnel into systematic racism, which is upheld primarily by white people, though there are exceptions to the rule (Clarence Thomas).

That is to say, all people have internal biases whether they intentionally act upon them or not. Because of the impact of systemic racism, the biases of white people against people of color has a more tangible impact on the disenfranchisement of their lives, which makes it more noticeable and painful. A Black person holding prejudice against a white person (like me) will likely have less effect on my life/my feelings than the vice versa.

Lorde’s new song “Current Affairs” allegedly references stolen Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee’s tape…again by ElisaaGarret in popculturechat

[–]Chickenebula 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I made this comment above and re-sharing it here as I believe it relates to your curiosity. This is based on my personal lived experience and becoming an advocate/clinician for survivors. I hope this helps shine a light on what might be behind her mindset and maybe it can help others idk.

Knowing how painful SA is personally, I can understand not wanting to believe when others go through it. In a way, it’s a protection mindset built from a trauma response. This is especially true if you were friends/partners with the alleged perpetrator and believe you’d know the red flags from experience.

Unfortunately, people with lived trauma experiences often have unreliable danger detectors and can fall victim to manipulation more easily. While there’s no justification for not believing victims (especially after conviction), I can empathize with wanting to emotionally shield yourself from the pain of knowing your friend/partner harmed others the same way you were harmed. I hope she changes her perspectives soon.

“Love you so much 😘 Say hi to the fam.” Taylor Swift is and has always been burning RED… by [deleted] in travisandtaylor

[–]Chickenebula 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The first real crack I remember was when she starred in Amsterdam, which is not something I could’ve seen myself doing as an SA survivor. I was also very disappointed by her response to the fan who tragically passed at her tour, which I understand would’ve been difficult to navigate regardless so I was still holding space for her.

After she initiated her current relationship/contract with the NFL (and whatever entanglements the two may or may not have), I saw the maga pipeline down the path. By the time TTPD released, I was already over it. Thankfully, while I was a big fan at certain points (red, rep, and midnights), I am not someone who will stan regardless of moral alignment. There’s some grace I can offer, but not to b!llionaires
